We pooled data from two longitudinal cohort studies, Atherosclerosis Risk in Communities (ARIC) and the Cardiovascular Health Study (CHS), using a two-stage approach. First, we used a random effects model to interpolate risk factors of individuals between follow-up exams. Second, we used forward selection to develop a proportional hazards model for time to incident TIA. We internally validated our model using 10-fold cross-validation.

Among 3575 participants with T2DM, mean (SD) age was 60 (10) years and body mass index was 30 (6) kg/m2. Sixty-nine incident TIAs occurred during 38,364 person-years of follow-up. The multivariable model included age at diagnosis of diabetes (hazard ratio 1.13 (95% confidence interval 1.05,1.21) per year), systolic blood pressure (1.25 (1.04,1.49) per 10mmHg), a quadratic function of diastolic blood pressure, and history of congestive heart failure (2.08 (1.26, 3.42)). Data were from the 2015 and 2017 Oregon Healthy Teens survey, a state-wide representative sample of 11th grade students. We compared teens with and without disabilities on whether or not they had ever had sexual intercourse (N= 20,812). Among those who had ever had intercourse (N= 8,311), we used multivariable Poisson regression to measure the association between disability status and the prevalence of five sexual experiences.

After adjusting for sociodemographic characteristics, the prevalence of ever having had intercourse was 25% higher among teens with disabilities than among those without (adjusted prevalence ratio [aPR] 1.25, 95% confidence interval [CI] 1.20-1.30). Among students who had had intercourse, the prevalence of having had intercourse before the age of 15 years (aPR 1.25, 95% CI 1.14-1.47), having ≥ 2 lifetime sexual partners (aPR 1.13, 95% CI 1.07-1.19), having ≥ 2 sexual partners in the previous three months (aPR 1.23, 95% CI 1.00-1.52), having used alcohol and/or drugs at the last intercourse (aPR 1.28, 95% CI 1.10-1.48), and having condomless sex at the last intercourse (aPR 1.17, 95% CI 1.08-1.27) was higher among students with disabilities than among students without disabilities. After accounting for sexual abuse, each of these associations was attenuated and most were no longer significant.

Skin tears are traumatic wounds characterised by separation of the skin layers. Severity evaluation is important in the management of skin tears. To support the assessment and management of skin tears, this study aimed to develop an algorithm to estimate a category of the Skin Tear Audit Research classification system (STAR classification) using digital images via machine learning. This was achieved by introducing shape features representing complicated shape of the skin tears.

A skin tear image was separated into small segments, and features of each segment were estimated. The segments were then classified into different classes by machine learning algorithms, namely support vector machine and random forest. Their performance in classifying wound segments and STAR categories was evaluated with 31 images using the leave-one-out cross validation.

Support vector machine showed an accuracy of 74% and 69% in classifying wound segments and STAR categories, respectively. The corresponding accuracy using random forest were 71% and 63%.

Hereby, we present an unusual case of a 55-year-old male with fever and multiple mononeuritis attributed to Q fever and we summarize a short review of C. burnetii infection.
