Lead exposure all over the world has gradually declined. As fetuses are more prone to lead exposure, even to low levels of lead exposure, it is important to monitor blood lead levels (BLLs) in pregnancy.
We obtained data on BLLs in the third trimester of pregnancy from medical records and measured cord BLLs obtained from 121 mother-child pairs in Shenyang, China from September 2019 to February 2020. We also estimated relationships between socio-demographic, lifestyle and dietary factors during pregnancy as well as cord BLLs to identify the source of lead exposure during pregnancy. BLLs was estimated by atomic absorption spectrometry through graphite furnace ionization techniques. The data which obtained by questionnaires during pregnancy included maternal sociodemographic, lifestyle, dietary factors. We have established three multivariate logistic regression models in which the dichotomous BLLs was used as the dependent variable (cord BLLs ≥20 μg/L vs <20 μg/L).
The median and geometric mean of cord nese are still higher than most developed countries. Passive smoking is a risk factor for cord BLLs ≥20 μg/L and supplement of DHA, whole grains and beverage consumption during pregnancy may act as a beneficial factor against having cord BLLs ≥20 μg/L.
Cowpea is a crop widely used in developing countries due its rusticity. Besides its rich genotypic variability, most breeding programs do not explore its potential to improve elements uptake. Selenium (Se) is a scarce element in most soils, resulting in its deficiency being common in human diets. This study aimed to evaluate the interaction between biofortification with Se and genotypic variation in cowpea, on the concentrations of Se in roots, leaves + stem and grains.
Twenty-nine cowpea genotypes were grown in a greenhouse in the absence (control) and presence of Se (12.5 μg Se kg
soil) as sodium selenate, in fully randomized scheme. The plants were cultivated until grains harvest. The following variables were determined roots dry weight (g), leaves + stems dry weight (g), grains dry weight (g), Se concentration (mg kg
) in roots, leaves + stems and grains, and Se partitioning to shoots and grains.
Selenium application increased the Se concentration in roots, leaves + stems and grains in all genotypes. At least twofold variation in grain Se concentration was observed among genotypes. Selenium application did not impair biomass accumulation, including grain dry weight. Genotype "BRS Guariba" had the largest Se concentration in grains and leaves + stems. Genotype MNC04-795 F-158 had the largest partitioning of Se to shoots and grain, due to elevated dry weights of leaves + stems and grain, and high Se concentrations in these tissues.
This information might be valuable in future breeding programs to select for genotypes with better abilities to accumulate Se in grain to reduce widespread human Se undernutrition.

Zinc transporters are thought to facilitate the mobilization of zinc (Zn) and the role of Zn as a signaling mediator during cellular events. Little is known about the response of Zn movement and zinc transporters during muscle proliferation and differentiation processes after damage.
After rats were subjected to one 90-min session of downhill running to cause muscle damage, the gastrocnemius muscles were harvested to assess the expression of zinc transporters SLC39A/ZIP7, ZIP8, ZIP14 and myogenic regulatory factors at the 0 h, 6 h, 12 h, 1 d, 2 d, 3 d, 1 w and 2 w time points after exercise.
SLC39A/ZIP7, ZIP8 and ZIP14 had translocated to different compartments of the cell following damage, and they exhibited differential expression profiles after eccentric exercise. The results regarding the myogenetic regulators showed that nf-κb was upregulated 2 d after exercise, and STAT3 and Akt1 mRNA levels were mostly expressed 2 w after exercise. The upregulation of phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase, catalytic subunit gamma (pik3cg), erk1 and erk2 mostly occurred at the early stage (6 h or 12 h) after exercise. In addition, we found that zip7, zip8 and zip14 expression was moderately correlated with certain markers of muscle regeneration.

The number of older adults with Alzheimer's disease and related dementias (ADRD) is increasing worldwide. This offers ample opportunities for mobile health (mHealth) apps, for example to support them in performing daily activities or monitoring their health status. However, how to design these apps taking into consideration ADRD related barriers remains a challenge.
To provide a synthesis of mHealth usability barriers of older adults with ADRD and design suggestions to enhance user-friendliness of mHealth apps.
We performed a scoping review of mHealth studies focused on older adults with ADRD and (1) usability barriers experienced, and/or (2) implementation or design suggestions. PubMed, Medline, EMBASE, PsycINFO, and Web of Science were searched. Clinical and grey literature on ADRD diminishments was explored to identify potential barriers to using mHealth. Detected usability barriers caused by ADRD impairments were mapped onto the MOLD-US framework through validation, calibration, and adaption. MOLD-Udentified usability barriers were classified in five categories cognition, perception, physical ability, frame of mind, and speech- and language. In addition, the design suggestions were categorized as evidence- or expert-based.
