Etimologi kata Ramuan atau Potion berasal dari Bahasa Latin "Potio" yang artinya "minuman".
Ramuan adalah suatu cairan magis yang biasa diramu di kuali dan bertujuan untuk menimbulkan sejumlah efek bagi peminumnya. Penyihir yang mengkhususkan diri dalam pembuatan ramuan disebut Potioneer atau Potion Master.
Ramuan dibuat dari bahan-bahan yang bersifat magis. Ramuan bisa digunakan sebagai obat, racun mematikan, atau efek tertentu bagi peminumnya.
Dalam proses pembuatannya, ramuan harus diramu dengan baik agar sempurna dan menghasilkan efek yang diharapkan. Dalam kasus tertentu, peramuan ramuan yang tidak sesuai (misal, kuali kotor, salah langkah mengaduk) dapat menyebabkan efek samping dari efek asli ramuan.
