Following the pioneering investigations of Bader on the topology of molecular electron density, the topology analysis of its sister field viz. molecular electrostatic potential (MESP) was taken up by the authors' groups. Through these studies, MESP topology emerged as a powerful tool for exploring molecular bonding and reactivity patterns. The MESP topology features are mapped in terms of its critical points (CPs), such as bond critical points (BCPs), while the minima identify electron-rich locations, such as lone pairs and π-bonds. The gradient paths of MESP vividly bring out the atoms-in-molecule picture of neutral molecules and anions. The MESP-based characterization of a molecule in terms of electron-rich and -deficient regions provides a robust prediction about its interaction with other molecules. This leads to a clear picture of molecular aggregation, hydrogen bonding, lone pair-π interactions, π-conjugation, aromaticity and reaction mechanisms. This review summarizes the contributions of the authors' groups over the last three decades and those of the other active groups towards understanding chemical bonding, molecular recognition, and reactivity through topology analysis of MESP.The human E74-like ETS transcription factor 3 (Elf-3) is an epithelium-specific member of the ETS family, all members of which are characterized by a highly conserved DNA-binding domain. ABL001 mw Elf-3 plays a crucial role in epithelial cell differentiation by participating in morphogenesis and terminal differentiation of the murine small intestinal epithelium, and also acts as an indispensable regulator of mesenchymal to epithelial transition, underlying its significant involvement in development and in pathological states, such as cancer. Although previous research works have deciphered the functional role of Elf-3 in normal physiology as well as in tumorigenesis, the present study highlights for the first time the wide spectrum of ELF3 mRNAs that are transcribed, providing an in-depth analysis of splicing events and exon/intron boundaries in a broad panel of human cell lines. The implementation of a versatile targeted nanopore sequencing approach led to the identification of 25 novel ELF3 mRNA transcript variants (ELF3 v.3-v.27) with new alternative splicing events, as well as two novel exons. Although the current study provides a qualitative transcriptional profile regarding ELF3, further studies must be conducted, so the biological function of all novel alternative transcript variants as well as the putative protein isoforms are elucidated. To develop cost-effective and efficient bone substitutes for improved regeneration of bone defects, heparin-modified mineralized collagen scaffolds were functionalized with concentrated, naturally occurring bioactive factor mixtures derived from adipose tissue, platelet-rich plasma and conditioned medium from a hypoxia-treated human bone marrow-derived mesenchymal stem cell line. Besides the analysis of the release kinetics of functionalized scaffolds, the bioactivity of the released bioactive factors was tested with regard to chemotaxis and angiogenic tube formation. Additionally, functionalized scaffolds were seeded with human bone marrow-derived mesenchymal stromal cells (hBM-MSC) and their osteogenic and angiogenic potential was investigated. The release of bioactive factors from the scaffolds was highest within the first 3 days. Bioactivity of the released factors could be confirmed for all bioactive factor mixtures by successful chemoattraction of hBM-MSC in a transwell assay as well as by the formation of prevascular structures in a 2D co-culture system of hBM-MSC and human umbilical vein endothelial cells. The cells seeded directly onto the functionalized scaffolds were able to express osteogenic markers and form tubular networks. In conclusion, heparin-modified mineralized collagen scaffolds could be successfully functionalized with naturally occurring bioactive factor mixtures promoting cell migration and vascularization. The antioxidant potential (capacity and activity) of aqueous fullerene dispersions (AFD) of non-functionalized C60, C70, and Gd@C82 endofullerene (in micromolar concentration range) was estimated based on chemiluminescence measurements of the model of luminol and generation of organic radicals by 2,2'-azobis(2-amidinopropane) dihydrochloride (ABAP). The antioxidant capacity was estimated by the TRAP method, from the concentration of half-suppression, and from the suppression area in the initial period. All three approaches agree and show that the antioxidant capacity of AFDs increased in the order Gd@C82 less then C70 less then C60. Mathematical modeling of the long-term kinetics data was used for antioxidant activity estimation. The effect of C60 and C70 is found to be quenching of the excited product of luminol with ABAP-generated radical and not an actual antioxidant effect; quenching constants differ insignificantly. Apart from quenching with a similar constant, the AFD of Gd@C82 exhibits actual antioxidant action. The antioxidant activity in Gd@C82 is 300-fold higher than quenching constants.Agriculture in a water-limited environment is critically important for today and for the future. This research evaluates the impact of deficit irrigation in different planting methods on the physio-morphological traits, grain yield and WUE of maize (Zea mays L.). The experiment was carried out in 2015 and 2016, consisting of three planting methods (i.e., BBF, SNF, and DWF) and four irrigation levels (i.e., I10D irrigation once in ten days, I40 irrigation at 40% DASM, I50 irrigation at 50% DASM, and I60 irrigation at 60% DASM). The results reveal that varying degrees of water stress due to planting methods and irrigation levels greatly influenced the maize physio-morphological traits and yield attributes. The combined effect of DWF + I50 benefited the maize in terms of higher leaf area, RWC, SPAD values, CGR, and LAD, followed by the SNF method at 60 DAS. As a result, DWF + I50 and SNF + I50 had higher 100 grain weight (30.5 to 31.8 g), cob weight (181.4 to 189.6 g cob-1) and grain yield (35.3% to 36.4%) compared to other treatments.
