The Best Home Espresso Machine
Superautomatic espresso machines are a great option for those who don't have barista experience but still want to enjoy high-quality coffee at home. These machines come with automated features and digital convenience. They heat up quickly and don't need large counter space.
This model comes with a programmable volumetric dose as well an adjustable preinfusion. It also includes steam wand as well as a commercial-grade group head.
1. Breville Bambino Plus
Despite its cute name, the Bambino Plus is a serious espresso machine. It's packed with features that make it a good option for anyone looking to upgrade from the standard Breville espresso machines or want an automated alternative to manual.
It has a PID controller that does the heavy lifting of temperature control and pressure control so that it's ready to drink at the time you press the button. It utilizes a technology known as Thermo jet, which lets it get hot in just 3 seconds. This means you'll be able to get your coffee faster than other espresso machines for home use.
The machine was created with simplicity in mind. There is only one button to control everything. You can choose a single or double shot and also choose the brewing time that you have to do manually with other espresso machines in this price range. The brushed stainless steel finish gives it a luxurious look, and its compact size makes it ideal for those who have limited countertop space or a tight kitchen.
The Bambino Plus comes with everything you need to begin with brewing. This includes a metal 54mm tamper and a dose trimming tool. It's the only one in this category that does this, and it shows that Breville is dedicated to making their products as reliable as possible. It also comes with built-in reminders to clean and descale to keep it running smoothly.
The Bambino Plus may be the best entry-level espresso machine for those who are new to the world of espresso. Coffeee to use, warms up quickly, and automatically sends milk to you. However, its price could put it out of reach for some people.
2. De'Longhi Stilosa
The De'Longhi Stilosa is a well-rounded, budget-friendly manual espresso machine that is suitable for beginners and coffee aficionados alike. It's simple to use and looks good on the counter, and produces excellent cappuccinos, espresso, and lattes. However, it does have a few drawbacks that should be considered.
In our brewing metrics, the Stilosa scored between average and below average for its quality of brewing and its control. This was due to its small filter baskets as well as its lack of temperature control, which make it difficult to alter the extraction process. We liked that this machine can be heated quickly and that the spout can be adjusted to an ideal height.
The unit also has a convenient water reservoir that can hold up to 34 ounces. It comes with an integrated level indicator to let you know when it's time to refill. It is removable, which is beneficial if you have to clean it or don't have access an indoor sink. Another feature new to this model is a removable drip tray that lets you place taller cups underneath the spout.
In our steaming measurements, the Stilosa also fell short. This was largely because of its limited control over the steam temperature and lack of a pre-infusion option that are typical features on more expensive machines. Despite these flaws we were pleased with the fact that it doesn't need much maintenance and is backed by a one-year warranty. The De'Longhi Stilosa is a great option for a home coffee bar. It's more user-friendly than other models we've tried and will help you save money on cafe drinks.
3. Breville Barista Express Impress
The Breville Express Impress Barista (that's quite a mouthful, don't you agree?) is a machine designed specifically for people who are interested in espresso. This single boiler, pumps-driven machine was designed to make it easy for anyone to pull an espresso shot without sacrificing flavor or consistency of the brewing.
First of all, it takes the guesswork out of changing the grinder, tamper, and brew group settings by using its easy-to-use controls. You can also choose between single or double shots and pick the temperature you prefer. A built-in thermocoil heating system ensures your espresso will be ready to drink in about 30 seconds, which is a lot quicker than the half-hour the majority of single boiler machines need to reach temperature.
The "impressive" dosing-and-tamping system that works with the tamper, automatically adjusts the amount of ground coffee per shot. This system uses sensors to measure the depth of the basket, and then alters how much ground coffee is dispersed. If you aren't sure of your ability to regulate the grind size and temperature of the water the machine has presets that can help.
The Barista Express Impress also comes with the famous single hole steam wand, that can create impressive latte artwork. This is the same wand that you can find in Breville's advanced, top-of-the-line Barista Express models, and it's an absolute delight.
I'm not a big fan of coffee shortcuts, fully automated machines or even pods. However, the Impress does exactly what it claims to do without being daunting or taking the enjoyment out of making an espresso. I'm satisfied with it and I'm giving it a thumbs-up!
4. Diletta Mio
The Diletta Mio makes a great alternative for home baristas who are adamant about quality, design and convenience. Its sleek aesthetic, professional-grade components and consistent performance make it a conversation piece in your coffee bar. It's also a great choice for those who are new to the coffee industry and want to learn the ins and outs of espresso and steaming without getting overwhelmed by programming and complexity.
The brew heater that is controlled by PID is among its most striking features. It ensures rapid warm-up time and stable temperature water. This is particularly important for espresso drinks, since even small fluctuations in the temperature of water can have a huge impact on the flavor and quality of your coffee.
Another notable feature is separate thermoblock in Diletta's steaming that lets you prepare espresso and steam your milk at the same time. This can be a major time saver, and also helps ensure that your milk has the perfect texture for your beverages. This helps conserve energy as it only requires energy only when it is required.
This machine comes with a pressure gauge on the head of the group. It's a nice feature that lets you check the pressure of your extraction live. You can adjust the OPV for a finer extraction. This is a feature normally reserved for machines that cost more.
The Diletta also comes with an easy-to-clean side tank, and an optional energy-saving mode that can be adjusted in increments of 10 minutes up to two hours. The insulated wrap minimizes heat loss, while its dual-temperature control system helps reduce static electricity. This means less waste and lower cost.
Some users have complained about the lengthy repair times and low durability of this machine. Additionally, some have received poor customer service from Diletta and have experienced difficulties solving warranty issues.
5. Jura E8
This high-end super-automatic espresso maker comes with a dizzying array of pre-programmed specialty drinks that you can choose from the click of one button. It also makes macchiato, cappuccino and ristretto and flat whites as well as tea, hot chocolate, and plain coffee. This machine is distinguished by its cutting-edge brewing technology and stylish color display.
The E8 uses the Aroma G3 grinder to grind whole beans quickly and accurately. It comes with eight grind settings that may seem a lot when you compare it to other super-automatics with just 3 or 4. The higher setting allows you to manage the size and consistency of your cup, which is crucial for a good cup.
The Jura E8 is equipped with a powerful burr grinder and an intelligent pre-infusion procedure. These two components are responsible for producing an espresso that is consistently top-quality. The PEP process forces water through the ground coffee in short bursts, which allows the flavor to be fully extracted. The resultant cup is richer, fuller, and more flavorful than typical instant coffee that comes from a Keurig.
The Jura E8 can make a variety of drinks, and it does this very well. It makes excellent, strong espresso as well as smooth cappuccino. The only downside is that it's unable to make the latte. This requires a high-pressure steam boiler to make an extremely thick, foamy bubble.
As with most super-automatics that are available, this one requires some maintenance, however, it is quite easy to keep clean. It will descale automatically and self-clean after every use. It is easy to program it to do more thorough cleaning at least every year, or at least twice. It will also remind to change the filter every 80 drinks.
