The current study aimed to evaluate the dose effect of a temporary tissue expander (TTE) according to the radiotherapy technique for breast cancer patients.
Computed tomography images of a 3D-printed breast phantom with a TTE were acquired for dosimetric analysis. For dose measurement during 180cGy of radiotherapy, 13 EBT3 films were attached to the TTE while including the metal port area. Treatment planning was performed for three-dimensional conformal radiotherapy (3DCRT), field-in-field radiotherapy, intensity-modulated radiotherapy (IMRT), and volumetric modulated arc therapy (VMAT) while considering whether a bolus was used and whether artifacts were corrected. The difference at each point between the measured mean and calculated doses was analyzed to determine the association with the radiotherapy techniques.
The effect of the metal port on the radiation dose was associated with the treatment technique. The dose difference between the measured and calculated doses was 6.8% (191.6cGy vs. 179.5cGy) for cases treated with 3DCRT with bolus and artifact correction. The dose difference for cases treated with VMAT and 3DCRT without bolus and with artifact correction was 5.8% (190.2cGy vs. 179.8cGy) and 5.6% (193.3cGy vs. 183.1cGy), respectively. IMRT with the bolus showed a minimum difference of 0.3% (180.7cGy vs. 181.3cGy).
The presence of the metal port within the TTE in radiation fields resulted to insignificant increased dose differences according to the treatment technique. Future studies should assess whether this dose difference could affect clinical outcomes.

Copper (Cu) can induce oxidative damage in fish muscle, the main fish portion that is consumed by humans. However, the responses of the Amazon fish Cichlasoma amazonarum and its capacity to withstand acute Cu concentrations found in Amazon water around mines remain unknown. Thus, the aim of this study was to evaluate whether exposure to Cu causes muscle oxidative stress and/or oxidative damage and impairs the fillet fatty acid profile of C. amazonarum acutely exposed to Cu found in Amazon waters around mines. Muscle reactive oxygen species and protein carbonylation levels were significantly higher in fish exposed to 1500 μg/L Cu compared with the control group, while muscle lipid peroxidation levels were significantly higher in fish exposed to 500, 750, and 1500 μg/L Cu compared with control group. Moreover, the impairment of the fillet fatty acid profile appears to be mediated by oxidative damage, representing a negative impact on fish health.Previous studies have reported incidence and mortality declines for colorectal cancer (CRC). We evaluated recent temporal trends of colorectal cancer in the United States for the last 4 decades. Using the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) database, we identified primary CRCs diagnosed between 1973 and 2015. Temporal changes were evaluated by 6-year time periods. Age-adjusted incidence rates and annual percentage change (APC) for CRC were calculated by site and gender. Age-standardized relative survival rates were also evaluated. We identified 878,632 CRC patients, 51% of whom were men. For both genders, the proportions of new diagnoses of right-sided colon cancer (RCC) remained relatively stable, with the APC of - 0.8 and - 0.6 for the male and the female, respectively. There was a relative increase in RCC for the younger aged group ( 65 (in both genders). Our study showed near significance in the decline of CRC mortality rates in this population, except the 1-year age-standardized survival of LCC and RSC, and the 5-year age-standardized RCC in females. There was a significant increase in RCC for the younger aged group ( less then 49 years). In contrast, the proportions of LCC and RSC decreased significantly over time.Open Access is an upcoming paradigm to communicate scientific knowledge. The Trans-O-MIM Project works on strategies, models, and evaluation metrics for the goal-oriented, stepwise, sustainable, and fair transformation of established subscription-based scientific journals into open-access-based journals. This research intends to present an evaluation metric and the associated identified appropriate parameters for such transformations. To develop the evaluation metric, it has been implemented in the context of a business management method for planning, steering and controlling action and corporate strategies. The central element was a 3-step procedure for developing the metric. In stage 1 necessary preconditions for a transformation were considered. Stage 2 is the actual elaboration of the evaluation metric by means of a scenario analysis and stage 3 comprises the exemplary testing at the journal Methods of Information in Medicine. BMS-650032 The three methodological steps have primarily resulted in 5 scenarios with 9 different final states from the scenario analysis. Thus, the metric is now composed of these 5 scenarios, which can be used to evaluate the success or failure of a transformation. A list of 65 suitable parameters to measure changes in scenario were compiled. So, it is possible to evaluate the transformation and to find the current final state. Parameters like submissions, publications, and time as well as the scenario states could be applied to the transformation process of the Methods of Information in Medicine journal. The proposed evaluation metric can be used to evaluate the transformation processes of subscription-based journals into open-access-based journals.Adipose tissue accumulation, resulting from the consumption of hypercaloric foods, can cause a dysfunction of the endocrine system. Such endocrine changes can influence the expression of various neurochemicals including brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) - associated with cognitive and emotional problems. Here, we investigated the effects of a hypercaloric diet on depression- and anxiety-like behaviors in young rats along with concomitant changes in BDNF expression levels in the hippocampus. Eight week-old Wistar rats (n = 20) were divided in control diet (CD) group which received industrial food (n = 8) and hypercaloric diet (HD) group which received animal fat and soybean oil (n = 12). After 45 days on the diet, the animals were evaluated body weight and blood biochemical analisys. Changes in mood disposition were evaluated using forced swim test and the elevated plus-maze, whereas hippocampal BDNF expression levels were quantified by ELISA. After 45 weeks, the CD group showed a significant increase in body weight relative to the HD group.
