The heterogeneity of the ovarian tumors among patients and the lack of sufficient therapies for these tumors make the selection of the appropriate treatment a hard challenge. Understanding the mechanisms leading to OC becomes an urgent need in order to find out better therapeutic strategies. In this study, we have identified a point mutation (L449S) in the regulatory subunit of PI3K in an OC Lebanese patient. This genomic alteration had not been previously reported in OC and could plausibly enhance the PIK3CA amplification effect in strengthening AKT/mTOR pathway activity and leading to tumorigenesis. The case of a 24-year-old patient with a 22-week-old pregnancy and colorectal cancer stage IV in palliative state is presented, with a devastating result. Herein we present the case of a relatively young patient with HHT with an incidentally discovered locally advanced esophageal cancer on endoscopic screening and pathologically complete response after neoadjuvant chemoradiation. Interstitial lung disease is a well-known major adverse event associated with everolimus treatment, but it is often difficult to distinguish between interstitial lung disease and Pneumocystis pneumonia, a lung infection. Acute kidney injury is another adverse event that is associated with everolimus use. In this article, we report a case of Pneumocystis pneumonia without respiratory symptoms and acute kidney injury induced by everolimus treatment in a patient with ER-positive and HER2-negative metastatic breast cancer. We report the case of a 72-year-old woman with a solitary left pelvic-wall mass that was finally proven to be a left internal iliac lymph nodal metastasis from anal cancer. No signs of the primary tumor had been initially found by general screening using computed tomography, colonoscopy, pelvic magnetic resonance imaging, and gynecological/urological examination; however, squamous cell carcinoma was detected by surgical biopsy of the left pelvic-wall mass. Additional F-FDG-PET/computed tomography, along with digital examination, will probably help in establishing an accurate diagnosis. Anal cancer must be considered during the differential diagnosis of a solitary pelvic-wall mass for a correct diagnosis and to avoid unnecessary procedures. Copyright © 2020 by S. Karger AG, Basel.Use of yttrium-90 (Y-90) is used for primary liver tumors and a handful of liver metastatic lesions. Y-90 treatment for metastatic adrenocortical carcinoma (ACC) to the liver is currently off-label, with one previously documented case report. In this case report, we present a 52-year-old woman with ACC and extensive liver metastatic disease. After failed chemotherapy, multidisciplinary discussion suggested potential Y-90 treatment for palliative purposes. After undergoing Y-90 treatment separately to the right and then the left hepatic lobes, subsequent patient visits demonstrated significantly improved clinical function as well as complete radiographic resolution of liver metastatic disease mainly from ACC. This case report demonstrates the potential efficacy of Y-90 for off-label uses in liver metastatic disease. This case and similar cases may open the door to a wide variety of potential indications for Y-90 treatment. Copyright © 2020 by S. Karger AG, Basel.Thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura (TTP) is a rare, serious, life-threatening disease characterized by microangiopathic hemolytic anemia, thrombocytopenia, and hypercoagulability. The etiology is a deficiency of ADAMTS13 which is usually caused by acquired antibodies. Plasma exchange and steroids is the standard of care in the treatment of TTP. However, there are refractory cases of TTP which require further management. Rituximab appears to be a safe and effective therapy for refractory and relapsing TTP. Here we report a challenging case of TTP that responded to treatment with rituximab twice weekly. According to our knowledge, rituximab twice weekly has never been used for TTP before. Here, we report a case of DCBM due to rectal cancer successfully treated with a combination of FOLFOX and an anti-epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) agent. The patient was a 38-year-old man diagnosed with rectal cancer with multiple bone and para-aortic lymph node metastases complicated by disseminated intravascular coagulation (DIC). He first recovered from DIC following cotreatment with FOLOX plus cetuximab; subsequently, the second attack was successfully treated with FOLFOX plus panitumumab. His initial condition was extremely poor, but he survived with two FOLFOX plus anti-EGFR regimens and died 333 days after introduction of chemotherapy. Copyright © 2020 by S. Karger AG, Basel.
