Proton-pump inhibitors (PPIs) may increase the risk of kidney stone formation, but the mechanism has not been elucidated. There is a paucity of literature evaluating the effects of PPIs on urinary metabolites and urine pH.
We performed a retrospective review of nephrolithiasis patients treated at our institution and compared patients who were taking PPIs to those who werenot at the time of their 24-h urine collections. Hierarchical multivariate linear regression was used to evaluate the independent relationship between PPI use and urinary mineralcomposition.
We identified 301 consecutive patients, 88 (29%) of whom were taking PPIs at the time of their 24-h urine collections. Patients taking PPIs were older and more likely to have medical comorbidities associated with metabolic syndrome such as hypertension, diabetes, and dyslipidemia (p < 0.01). Controlling for these factors, patients taking PPIs were found to have 12% lower 24-h urine citrate excretion (β = - 0.12, ΔF = 4.24, p = 0.04). There were no other differences in urinarymineral composition between the groups.

This study aimed to evaluate the response of dental pulp stem cells (DPSCs) cultured with and without lipoteichoic acid (LTA) to different pulp-capping materials.
The cells were cultured and seeded in 6-well plates and exposed to 1% LTA solution. Dycal, ProRoot MTA and Biodentine materials were applied on cells and all groups were evaluated by cell proliferation, viability, cell cycle and cell death signaling pathways for 24 and 72h.
LTA + Dycal treatment significantly inhibited the proliferation of DPSCs and increased the apoptosis rate of cells more than the other groups at 72h. Compared to other groups, LTA + Dycal treatment significantly increased the levels of Caspase-3 and AKT and decreased the levels of p-AKT.
The results of this study revealed that all tested materials caused apoptosis in DPSCs via an extrinsic apoptotic pathway. The DPSCs showed an early apoptosis response to the Dycal and a late apoptosis response to the ProRoot MTA and Biodentine treatments. LTA led autophagy and inhibited the proliferation of DPSCs. ProRoot MTA and Biodentin eliminated the LTA's bioactivity with higher efficiency than Dycal.

Glucarate-based molecular imaging probes including [99mTc]glucarate and [18F]glucarate have been developed and demonstrated to have infarct/necrosis-avid and/or tumor-seeking properties, showing potential applications in early detection of myocardial infarction, evaluation of tissue viability, monitoring of therapeutic effectiveness, and noninvasive imaging of certain tumors including drug-resistant ones. The mechanism by which [99mTc]glucarate localizes in acute necrotic tissues has been demonstrated to be largely attributable to its binding to the positively charged histones, which become accessible after the disruption of the cell and nuclear membranes as a result of irreversible damage, while the tumor-seeking mechanism of [99mTc]glucarate has been found to be closely related to glucose transporter 5 expression. Moreover, the recently developed [18F]glucarate provides a new alternative probe for positron emission tomography imaging and may have potential advantages over [99mTc]glucarate. In this review, we present the untiring pursuit for glucarate-based molecular imaging probes as infarct/necrosis-avid agent and/or tumor-seeking agent. Moreover, the limitations and the prospects for future research of glucarate-based molecular probes are also discussed.In adults, ratings of perceived exertion (RPE) can be used to predict maximal oxygen uptake, estimate time to exhaustion, assess internal training load and regulate exercise intensity. However, the utility of RPE in children is less researched and therefore, warrants investigation. The purpose of this scoping review is to map out the literature around the application of RPE specifically during aerobic exercise in paediatric populations. Seven bibliographic databases were systematically searched. Grey literature searching and pearling of references were also conducted. To be included for the review, studies were required to comply with the following (1) participants aged ≤ 18 years asymptomatic of any injuries, disabilities or illnesses; (2) applied RPE in aerobic exercise, testing and/or training; (3) included at least one measure of exercise intensity; and (4) be available in English. The search identified 22 eligible studies that examined the application of RPE in children. These studies involved a total of 718 participants across ten different countries. Nine different types of RPE scales were employed. Overall, the application of RPE in paediatric populations can be classified into three distinct themes prediction of cardiorespiratory fitness/performance, monitoring internal training loads, and regulation of exercise intensity. The utility of RPE in paediatric populations remains unclear due to the small body of available research and inconsistencies between studies. However, findings from the included studies in this scoping review may show promise. Further research focussing on child-specific RPE scales across various sports, subgroups, and in field-based settings is needed.
