This article also reviews the up-to-date classification and diagnostic protocol for EB, and international recommendations for interdisciplinary patient care.
The prevalence of all EB types in Slovenia is higher compared to the estimated prevalence in the United States. The multidisciplinary care of EB patients in Slovenia has been developed based on patients' needs, including a wide group of various specialists, and it has been adapted to the resources and treatment options available. This article also reviews the up-to-date classification and diagnostic protocol for EB, and international recommendations for interdisciplinary patient care.
Erythema nodosum (EN) is the most common type of panniculitis. The most frequent etiological factors are streptococcal pharyngitis, sarcoidosis, Behçet's disease, and tuberculosis. Our objective was to identify the etiological factors and to evaluate the patients' clinical, laboratory, and histopathological findings.
Eighty-eight patients diagnosed with EN at our clinic between 2013 and 2019 were evaluated retrospectively. Sixty-five patients were evaluated histopathologically.
The patients' ages ranged between 17 and 76 (mean age 41.91 ± 13.07 years). EN was 7.8 times more frequent in women. Patients presenting with idiopathic EN were significantly older than secondary cases (p < 0.05). Sixty-one patients (69.3%) had an underlying disease (secondary EN). JAK inhibition The most common etiological factors were upper respiratory tract infections (n = 26), followed by Behçet's disease (n = 20). Septal panniculitis was present in 89.2% of cases evaluated histopathologically. Mixed or lobular panniculitis was present in 35.7% of Behçet's disease patients with EN-like lesions. Vasculitis was also noted in 35.7% of Behçet's disease patients.
Our data confirm the predominance of upper respiratory tract infections and Behçet's disease among patients with EN in Turkey. Behçet's disease patients presenting with EN-like lesions may show mixed panniculitis and vasculitis, whereas classic EN patients predominantly show septal panniculitis.

Eccrine and apocrine hidrocystomas are uncommon, benign, cystic proliferations of the sweat glands usually located on the head and neck area.
To describe the key clinical and histopathological characteristics of a large series of hidrocystomas in Greece to improve diagnostic accuracy, and to perform a historical review of the medical term hidrocystoma.
A case series of 22 hidrocystomas from 20 consecutive patients treated with surgery at University Hospital of Heraklion in Crete, Greece, from January 1, 1998 to January 1, 2020 was performed along with a comprehensive historical literature review of the term hidrocystoma and its corresponding term hydatis from ancient Greek literature to the present. Data were obtained from medical records. All patients had a histopathologically confirmed diagnosis of hidrocystoma. Formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded (FFPE) sections of 22 tumors of the 20 consecutive patients were retrieved from the pathology laboratory archive and stained for SMA, p63, and GCDFP-15 with immunochemistry and periodic acid-Schiff (PAS) histochemical stain.
Overall, 22 hidrocystomas (11 apocrine and 11 eccrine hidrocystomas) surgically excised from 20 patients were included in this study. Of the 20 patients, 10 (50%) were male and 10 (50%) were female, with a mean age of 56 ± 15 years. Hidrocystomas commonly occurred on the eyelids (73%), inner canthus (9%), eyebrow (4.5%), neck (4.5%), nose (4.5%), and ear (4.5%). All apocrine hidrocystomas stained positive for SMA, GCDFP-15, CAM 5.2, PAS, and PAS-D. No recurrence was observed.
Here we have presented the clinicopathological characteristics of the largest case series of hidrocystomas in Europe and the Mediterranean region. Only apocrine hidrocystomas stained positive for SMA, GCDFP-15, CAM 5.2, PAS, and PAS-D.

The interview also describes the important contributions that the school of Perugia produced in the field of nephrology and its main protagonists. This nephrological life story highlights the role that internal medicine, with its multidisciplinary approach, had in the development of nephrology in its beginnings; the importance of cooperation with foreign institutions; the contributions that specialised research laboratories attached to renal units have given to the improvement of the diagnosis and to the understanding of the pathogenesis of nephropathies.Purpose According to the Surviving Sepsis Campaign, aminoglycosides (AG) can be administered together with a β-lactam in patients with septic shock. Some authors propose administering a single dose of an AG combined with a β-lactam antibiotic in septic patients to extend the spectrum of antibiotic therapy. The aim of this study has been to investigate whether a single shot of AG when septic patients present at the Emergency Department (ED) is associated with acute kidney injury (AKI). Methods We retrospectively enrolled patients based on a 3-year internal registry of septic patients visited in the Emergency Department (ED) of Pordenone Hospital. We compared the patients treated with a single dose of gentamicin (in addition to the β-lactam) and those who had not been treated to verify AKI incidence. Results 355 patients were enrolled. The median age was 71 years (IQR 60-78). Less than 1% of the patients had a chronic renal disease. The most frequent infection source was the urinary tract (31%), followed by intra-abdominal and lower respiratory tract infections (15% for both).
