Hydroxychloroquine (HCQ) possess immunosuppressive and anti-inflammatory properties. The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of HCQ on miR-219 and miR-155-3p expression changes in MS-induced model. The animal model was induced by the administration of cuprizone containing food pellets (0.2%). Briefly, C57BL/6 mice were randomly divided into five groups. Group 1 received normal food and water during the study. Group 2 received cuprizone pellets for 5 weeks (demyelination phase) following one-week normal feeding during the remyelination phase. The remaining three groups received HCQ (2.5, 10 and 100 mg/kg) via drinking water during the demyelination phase. At the end of each phase, mice were deeply anesthetized, perfused with PBS through the heart, and their brains were removed. Brain sections stained with luxol fast blue and the images were analyzed. Also, the expression levels of miR-219 and miR-155-3p were evaluated by quantitative Real-Time PCR in all samples. HCQ decreased the expression of miR-155-3p and increased miR-219 expression in animals treated with 100 mg/kg of HCQ compared to the control group (p less then 0.0001) and the cuprizone group (p less then 0.0001). LFB method revealed a gradual increment of myelination in animals treated with 10 and 100 mg/kg of HCQ compared to the cuprizone group. Aβ1-42-treated mice significantly impaired acquisition activity in the learning curve at 10 days, 1 and 4 months in the Morris water-maze (MWM) task. This learning activity was back to normal at 8 months after Aβ1-42 treatment. In the probe trial test, Aβ1-42-treated mice needed longer latencies to touch the precious platform location and fewer numbers of crossing from 10 days to 4 months after microinjection. This Aβ1-42 induced memory loss was consistent with the results of the step-down passive avoidance test. Although there are some studies on the impacts of light intensity on fish welfare, the changes in the antioxidant enzyme activities have not been elucidated. In the current study, it was intended to examine in rainbow trout how cultivating under different wavelengths affects the antioxidant enzymes and acetylcholine esterase (AChE) activity, because its activity is associated with oxidative stress, and also the determination of which light is suitable for fish welfare was aimed. Rainbow trout larvae were grown under four lights with different wavelengths natural sunlight and incandescent long-wave (red light), medium-wave (green light), and short-wave (blue light) LED light. The experiment lasted foggested for fish welfare in rainbow trout culture, and providing fish welfare by changing light sources can be easy and cheap in fish farming.Obesity is a chronic disease that causes and aggravates several other diseases, and early reports suggest it is an important risk factor for COVID-19 severity. Although a deeper understanding of this relationship is vital, it is also important to inform the general public about the risks and, ideally, offer strategies to mitigate the risks. As "resolution" of obesity in the short-term is not feasible, it is indeed possible that smaller weight losses and increase in physical activity can actually reduce the risks. In this context, we propose that a term called "controlled obesity" be more often used and studied, in which those who have lost over 10% of their maximal weight and, ideally, are physically active are considered healthier. This context can have much broader usefulness, beyond the pandemics, as evidence points that weight loss over 10% can significant reduce overall health risks, irrespective of final BMI.
This study was designed to evaluate the electromagnetic interference (EMI) effects and safety of the new security screening millimetre wave body scanners (MWBSs) for patients with rare cardiac implantable electronic devices (CIEDs).
We identified 73 patients with either entirely subcutaneous implantable cardioverter-defibrillators (S-ICD) or leadless pacemakers (LPM) attending routine device follow-up. CIED programming was optimised for the detection of EMI occurrence, and high-voltage therapy was disabled. Patients then underwent millimetre wave body scans under continuous ECG monitoring. Scanning was performed at the recommended distance as well as in close proximity to the scanner emulating accidental exposure. CIED function was observed for EMI effects.
There were no episodes of inhibition of pacing in the leadless pacemaker subgroup, no oversensing in the S-ICD subgroup and no spontaneous device reprogramming in any group. There was no change in pacing or sensing thresholds, and S-ICD vector eligibility remained unchanged after scanning with the MWBS.
