Phosphorus (P) plays key role in phytoplankton primary production in coastal water. In this study, seawater samples collected within China's Leizhou Peninsula coastal waters from October 2017 to July 2018 were examined to determine the seasonal variation, speciation, and transport flux of total dissolved phosphorus (TDP) linked to hydrographic features. TDP concentration and speciation had significant seasonal variations (P less then 0.01), and the annual mean TDP concentration was 0.42 ± 0.25 μmol·L-1. High concentrations of TDP occurred in coastal waters adjacent to Zhanjiang Bay and Jianjiang River estuary, whereas low TDP concentrations were found across large offshore areas. Dissolved inorganic and organic P were the main TDP bulk species in different seasons, comprising up to 55.5 ± 7.9% and 46.5 ± 22.6%, respectively. selleck The Beibu Gulf was annually subjected to 3.5 × 109 mol flux of TDP through the Qiongzhou Strait. Coastal currents, river plumes, and human activities were responsible for the dynamic variations in P species.
The prognosis of bronchiectasis is not well known. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the association between body mass index (BMI) and mortality in bronchiectasis using a large nationwide population-based cohort.

Using the National Health Insurance Service-Health Screening Cohort in Korea, individuals with bronchiectasis were identified from 2004 to 2006 and monitored for up to 10 years. Mortality in bronchiectasis was analyzed based on a BMI score <18.5kg/m
(underweight), 1.85-22.9kg/m
(normal weight), 23.0-24.9kg/m
(overweight), and >25.0kg/m
(obese).

A total of 2769 individuals with bronchiectasis were included. The underweight, normal weight, overweight, and obese accounted for 5.1%, 40.4%, 25.4%, and 29.3% of all patients with bronchiectasis, respectively. Compared to normal weight, underweight in bronchiectasis was associated with increased all-cause mortality (hazard ratio [HR]=2.60; 95% confidence interval [CI]=1.92-3.54), while obese was associated with decreased all-cause mortality (HR=0.71; 95% CI=0.55-0.93). This relationship between BMI and mortality was more prominent in respiratory disease-related mortality.

Underweight is associated with increased mortality among individuals with bronchiectasis while obese is associated with decreased mortality.The purpose of the current study was threefold (a) to examine the effects of participants having the autonomy to choose the practice order of two reaction time (RT) tasks - a choice-RT task and a Simon task - on performance, (b) to examine whether one order of practice is better than the other, and (c) to examine whether participants might choose a practice order that hinders their performance. The study was conducted online and participants completed the tasks on their own computer. Fifty-nine participants were randomly assigned into three groups (a) autonomy - participants chose which task they would like to practice first, (b) choice-first - participants practiced the choice-RT task first, and (c) Simon-first - participants practiced the Simon task first. Out of these three groups we created an autonomy group (n = 17) and a no-autonomy (yoked) group (n = 17). All participants performed eight familiarization trials of each task, practiced 160 trials (8 blocks × 20 trials) of each task, and performed a post-test of 20 additional trials of each task after a three-minute rest. The main findings were that (a) participants in the autonomy group had faster RTs compared with participants in the no-autonomy group, (b) performing the choice-RT task first led to faster RTs compared with performing the Simon task first, and (c) nine of the 17 participants in the autonomy group chose to practice the Simon task first. The findings of this study suggest that providing participants with autonomy can lead to improved performance. However, there may be a dissociation between participants' preference of practice order and their performance.Cross-linguistic studies can provide information about general and language specific features of language development, but relatively few such studies are available in literature. The main aim of the present study was to investigate, from a cross-linguistic perspective, the roles of the internal factor of gender and external factors of birth order and parental education level on the development of language in 2-year-old children. We examined 351 children growing up in three European language contexts Croatian (N = 104), Estonian (N = 141) and Finnish (N = 106). Information on lexical skills and word combination ability was collected using the short form of the MacArthur-Bates Communicative Development Inventories and the influence of background factors on these aspects of language development was investigated. No significant differences were found in lexical skills or word combination ability among the three language groups. These aspects of language development varied significantly with gender, but not with external factors. Our findings suggest that internal factors may influence early language development more than external factors.One of the underlying mechanisms that could link breast cancer and obesity is shifted redox homeostasis in the tumor microenvironment. To reveal the relationship between the malignant phenotype and obesity, we compared redox profiles of breast tumor and tumor-associated adipose tissue from premenopausal women normal-weight with benign tumors, overweight/obese with benign tumors, normal-weight with malignant tumors, and overweight/obese with malignant tumors. Namely, we examined the protein expression of nuclear factor erythroid 2-related factor 2 (Nrf2), protein expression and activity of main antioxidant defense (AD) enzymes copper, zinc- and manganese superoxide dismutase, catalase, and glutathione peroxidase, as well as the level of 4-hydroxy-2-nonenal (4-HNE) modified proteins. Higher protein expression and activity of AD enzymes were found in malignant tumor tissue than benign tumor tissue, irrespective of obesity. Nevertheless, malignant tumor tissue of overweight/obese women was characterized by higher protein expression of Nrf2 and weaker immunopositivity for 4-HNE modified proteins.
