coli and then translocate into plant microbiome, resulting in the increased RP4 plasmid spread in the plant endophytes. Overall, our findings provided important insights into the dissemination of ARB and ARGs from the environment to the plant microbiome. The development of assays for protein biomarkers in complex matrices is a demanding task that still needs implementation of new approaches. Antibodies as capture agents have been largely used in bioassays but their low stability, low-efficiency production, and cross-reactivity in multiplex approaches impairs their larger applications. Instead, synthetic peptides, even with higher stability and easily adapted amino acid sequences, still remain largely unexplored in this field. selleck chemical Here, we provide a proof-of-concept of a microfluidic device for direct detection of biomarker overexpression. The multichannel microfluidic polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) device was first derivatized with PAA (poly(acrylic acid)) solution. CRP-1, VEGF-114, and ΦG6 peptides were preliminarily tested to respectively bind the biomarkers, C-reactive protein (CRP), vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), and tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α). Each PDMS microchannel was then respectively bioconjugated with a specific peptide (CRP-1, VEGF-114, or ΦG6) to specifically capture CRP, VEGF, and TNF-α. With such microdevices, a fluorescence bioassay has been set up with sensitivity in the nanomolar range, both in buffered solution and in human serum. The proposed multiplex assay worked with a low amount of sample (25 μL) and detected biomarker overexpression (above nM concentration), representing a noninvasive and inexpensive screening platform.Hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) in alkaline medium is currently under scientific spotlight for generating clean H2 fuel from electrochemical water splitting. However, alkaline HER suffers from sluggish reaction kinetics because of the additional energy required for water dissociation from catalysts in contrast to acidic HER. Herein, we report the development of two-dimensional metal-organic framework (2D MOF) Ni-1,4-benzenedicarboxylic acid-based composite nanosheets for superior performance in HER electrocatalysis. Iron phthalocyanine (FePc) molecules are uniformly anchored on the ultrathin 2D Ni-MOF, showing a substantially increased current density, improved activity, and enhanced durability in alkaline HER. On account of the ultralarge specific surface of Ni-MOF and the coupling effects between FePc and 2D MOFs, the resultant nanosheet catalyst FePc@Ni-MOF exhibits a low overpotential (334 mV) and satisfactory long-term stability (10 h) at a current density of 10 mA·cm-2, which outperform those of pristine FePc, Ni-MOF, and the counterpart FePc@bulk-MOF. This study provides new insights into the synthesis of robust MOF-based nanosheet composites with high performance in catalysis.Although naturally occurring, self-assembled protein nanoarchitectures have been utilized as antigen-delivery carriers, and the inability of such carriers to elicit immunogenicity requires additional use of strong adjuvants. Here, we report an immunogenic Brucella outer membrane protein BP26-derived nanoarchitecture displaying the influenza extracellular domain of matrix protein-2 (M2e) as a vaccine platform against influenza virus. Genetic engineering of a monomeric BP26 containing four or eight tandem repeats of M2e resulted in a hollow barrel-shaped nanoarchitecture (BP26-M2e nanobarrel). Immunization with BP26-M2e nanobarrels induced a strong M2e-specific humoral immune response in vivo that was much greater than that of a physical mixture of soluble M2e and BP26, with or without the use of an alum adjuvant. An anti-M2e antibody generated by BP26-M2e nanobarrel-immunized mice specifically bound to influenza virus-infected cells. Furthermore, in viral challenge tests, BP26-M2e nanobarrels effectively protected mice from influenza virus infection-associated death, even without the use of a conventional adjuvant. A mechanism study revealed that both M2e-specific antibody-dependent cellular cytotoxicity and T cell responses are involved in the vaccine efficacy of BP26-M2e nanobarrels. These findings suggest that the BP26-based nanobarrel developed here represents a versatile vaccine platform that can be used against various viral infections.Understanding modulation of liquid molecule slippage along graphene surfaces is crucial for many promising applications of two-dimensional materials, such as in sensors, nanofluidic devices, and biological systems. Here, we use force measurements by atomic force microscopy (AFM) to directly measure hydrodynamic, solvation, and frictional forces along the graphene plane in seven liquids. The results show that the greater slip lengths correlate with the interfacial ordering of the liquid molecules, which suggests that the ordering of the liquid forming multiple layers promotes slip. This phenomenon appears to be more relevant than solely the wetting behavior of graphene or the solid-liquid interaction energy, as traditionally assumed. Furthermore, the slip boundary condition of the liquids along the graphene plane is sensitive to the substrate underneath graphene, indicating that the underlying substrate affects graphene's interaction with the liquid molecules. Because interfacial slip can have prominent consequences on the pressure drop, on electrical and diffusive transport through nanochannels, and on lubrication, this work can inspire innovation in many applications through the modulation of the substrate underneath graphene and of the interfacial ordering of the liquid.A range of morphologically distinct metallosupramolecular Cu(II) and Pd(II) complexes has been constructed, based on the tritopic ligand 1,1',1″-(benzene-1,3,5-triyl)tris(4,4-dimethylpentane-1,3-dione) (H3L). By control of the reaction conditions, it is possible to generate distinct coordination assemblies possessing either macrocyclic or polymeric structures and more importantly distinct activity in catalysis of the Suzuki-Miyaura cross-coupling.Hydrogen sulfide (H2S) has gained significant attention as a potent bioregulator in the redox metabolome, but it is just one of many reactive sulfur species (RSS). Recently, small molecule persulfides (structure RSSH) have emerged as RSS of particular interest due to their enhanced antioxidant abilities compared to H2S and their ability to directly convert protein thiols into protein persulfides, suggesting that persulfides may have distinct physiological functions from H2S. However, persulfides exhibit instability and cross-reactivity that hampers the elucidation of their precise biological roles. As such, chemists have designed chemical tools and techniques to facilitate the study of persulfides under various conditions. These molecules and methods include persulfide trapping reagents and sensors, as well as compounds that degrade in response to various triggers to release persulfides, termed persulfide donors. There now exist a variety of persulfide donor classes, some of which possess tissue-targeting capabilities designed to mimic localized endogenous production of RSS.
