Chemokines and their cognate receptors play a major role in modulating inflammatory responses. Depending on their ligand binding, chemokine receptors can stimulate both immune activating and inhibitory signaling pathways. The CC chemokine receptor 5 (CCR5) promotes immune responses by recruiting immune cells to the sites of inflammation/tumor, and is involved in stimulating tumor cell proliferation, invasion and migration through various mechanisms. Moreover, CCR5 also contributes to an immune-suppressive tumor microenvironment by recruiting regulatory T cells and myeloid-derived suppressor cells facilitating tumor development and progression. In summary, cells expressing CCR5 modulate immune response and tumor progression. Expression of CCR5 is increased in various malignancies and associated with poor outcome. Experimental data show promising efficacy signals with CCR5 antagonists in preclinical tumor models. Therefore, CCR5 has been recognized as a potential therapeutic target for cancer.

From the early 20th century onwards, physiotherapy slowly began to establish itself as a field of activity specifically for women of the middle classes who provided assistive services to medical doctors.Method Extensive overview of published and unpublished research on the history of German physiotherapy as well as select primary sources from the 19th and 20th centuries. Additionally reference is made to historical research regarding the emergence of the physical culture and life reform movements, as well as on gender research regarding upper and middle class female employment opportunities in the social and health care sector. Findings This study outlines the two leitmotifs of physiotherapy's incorporation into the medical sector (i.e. medicalisation) and its (self-)image as a "female profession" (i.e. feminisation) as two intertwined historical phenomena shaping the critical period when physiotherapy assumed its role as a health profession in Germany. These developments from the mid-19th to the mid-20th centuries resulted in the emergence of a "female profession" with a distinct focus on the role of movement as a treatment modality.Discussion Critical engagement with a handed down professional self-image is needed. On the basis of my historiographical overview, I suggest a future research agenda which would result in a more appropriate understanding of early physiotherapists in Germany as historical agents.There is increasing data that IVS8-5T variand and TG repeats could lead to impaired spermatogenesis. To investigate this we performed Sanger sequencing on 50 Bulgarian men with a sperm count below 5 × 106/mL and 20 normal fertile men. Frequencies of the results were compared among the two groups. A meta-analysis was perfomed by using the data for 6,423 patients and 5,834 control subjects, tested for the IVS8-5T polymorphism. One case subject (2.0%) was homozygote for the 5 T/5T variant whereas two (4.0%) were heterozygotes for the 5 T/7T variant. No 5 T alleles were found in the control group. The genotypes of the two groups showed a statistically significant difference (p = 0.04, α  less then  0.05). Also, the odds ratio was 3.73, but this was unsignificant (p = 0.38). All control subjects had 11 TG repeats and for the test group 47 (94.0%) men with 11 TG repeats and three (6.00%) with 10 TG repeats. Fisher's test showed no significant difference (p = 0.55). The meta-analysis showed that IVS8-5T variant was a risk factor for impaired spermatogenesis (OR = 2.84, p  less then  0.05) and this was more prominent for non-European (OR = 4.50, p  less then  0.05) compared to European (OR = 1.28, p  less then  0.05) men. The IVS8 - 5 T variant could be associated with disorders of sperm production.Among acute myeloid leukemia (AML) patients treated with 7 + 3 induction, we evaluate the association between complete morphologic remission (CR) and long-term overall survival (OS) over four decades. We analyzed 1247 patients age ≤65 randomized to 7 + 3 arms from five SWOG studies. OS has improved over the four decades. Hazards for death in the two most recent studies fell after year 2. In multivariable models, decade of therapy was the most important variable with respect to long-term survival and CR by day 100 the second most important variable.
