Due to their design and geometry, these turnouts force speed limits. The need to ensure the proper technical condition of turnouts has prompted ongoing scientific research and the use of modern technological solutions. Until now, there have been no tests for the correct location of the geometric center of a double and outside slip turnout with the related geometric relationships. Therefore, the main objective of this research was to demonstrate the position of the geometric centre of a double slip turnout and the geometric conditions of the curves of circular diverted tracks by measuring the horizontal versines and geometric irregularities of turnouts. The application of this surveying method, with reference to obtuse crossings and arising from geometric dependencies in the double and outside slip turnout, is defined and implemented (also known as a method for checking the correct location of the geometric center of a turnout-Surveying and Monitoring of the Geometric Center of a Double and Outside Slip Turnout (SMDOST)) via the Magnetic-Measuring Square (MMS) and electronic Total Station. This method also recommends measuring the horizontal versines of the diverted tracks. This paper presents the results of field measurements using the SMDOST and MMS methods, which were applied to carry out an analysis and evaluation of the turnout geometry conditions, thereby presenting the irregularities that cause turnout deformations. The validity of the SMDOST method using MMS and Total Station was thus confirmed. The observations from the conducted research indicate that neglecting measurements of the geometry of the turnouts resulted in additional irregularities in their conditions.Latina breast cancer survivors are less likely to receive a comprehensive Survivorship Care Plan (SCP) than non-Latina Whites. Evidence-based and theory driven interventions are needed to promote a culturally and linguistically responsive SCP. This paper describes the application of Intervention Mapping (IM) in the development of Proyecto Mariposa, a comprehensive SCP program targeting Latina breast cancer survivors living in a rural U.S.-Mexico border region. We conducted a needs assessment using focus groups (n = 40) and individual interviews (n = 4) with stakeholders to elicit their needs and preferences relating to SCPs and SCP aid (Step1). Content analysis of transcripts was conducted using Atlas.ti. The findings informed the development of a matrix of change objectives where we selected specific behavioral theories to ground the practical application of the SCP program (Step 2). We identified behavioral theories and the practical application of behavioral change (Step 3) and designed and developed a comprehensive SCP program which consisted of a culturally-and linguistically-adapted SCP document and animated video as an SCP aid (Step 4). The systematic application of the IM framework resulted in the development of a comprehensive and culturally tailored SCP intervention. Stakeholder active involvement in the cultural tailoring of the program was imperative and strengthens the SCP intervention.Osteoporosis and associated low energy fractures are a significant clinical problem, especially in the elderly population. This review aims to summarize the current knowledge about the role of vitamin C in osteoporosis development, prevention and treatment. The properties of MFCs have made the technology attractive for bioenergy production. However, a challenge to the mass production of MFCs is the time-consuming assembly process, which could perhaps be overcome using additive manufacturing (AM) processes. AM or 3D-printing has played an increasingly important role in advancing MFC technology, by substituting essential structural components with 3D-printed parts. This was precisely the line of work in the EVOBLISS project, which investigated materials that can be extruded from the EVOBOT platform for a monolithically printed MFC. The development of such inexpensive, eco-friendly, printable electrode material is described below. The electrode in examination (PTFE_FREE_AC), is a cathode made of alginate and activated carbon, and was tested against an off-the-shelf sintered carbon (AC_BLOCK) and a widely used activated carbon electrode (PTFE_AC). The results showed that the MFCs using PTFE_FREE_AC cathodes performed better compared to the PTFE_AC or AC_BLOCK, producing maximum power levels of 286 μW, 98 μW and 85 μW, respectively. In conclusion, this experiment demonstrated the development of an air-dried, extrudable (3D-printed) electrode material successfully incorporated in an MFC system and acting as a cathode electrode.Plants and pollinators are mutually beneficial plants provide nectar as a food source and in return their pollen is disseminated by pollinators such as honeybees. Some plants secrete chemicals to deter herbivores as a protective measure, among which is caffeine, a naturally occurring, bitter tasting, and pharmacologically active secondary compound. It can be found in low concentrations in the nectars of some plants and as such, when pollinators consume nectar, they also take in small amounts of caffeine. Whilst caffeine has been indicated as an antioxidant in both mammals and insects, the effect on insect immunity is unclear. In the present study, honeybees were treated with caffeine and the expression profiles of genes involved in immune responses were measured to evaluate the influence of caffeine on immunity. In addition, honeybees were infected with deformed wing virus (DWV) to study how caffeine affects their response against pathogens. Our results showed that caffeine can increase the expression of genes involved in immunity and reduce virus copy numbers, indicating that it has the potential to help honeybees fight against viral infection.
