Here, we review the preclinical and clinical studies on anti-NGF mAb therapy in chronic syndromes, dissect the role of NGF in pain transduction, and highlight the use of anti-NGF mAbs in humans.
After proper patient selection, anatomically correct pulsed radiofrequency of the lumbar facet joints provide long-term pain relief in a routine clinical setting. In the study, we performed an analysis of clinical and radiological predictive factors and provide the scientific basis for this promising modality.
The study included 198 patients with lower back pain due to lumbar facet joint disease who underwent medial branch block and pulsed radiofrequency during the period 2015-2019. According to the improvement in pain score, the patients were divided into good and poor outcome groups. Clinical and radiological data were collected and analyzed.
The multivariable analysis revealed the predictive factors, including lumbar lordosis, lower lumbar lordosis, pelvic tilt, the number of facet joints, old compression fracture with/without vertebroplasty, and post lumbar fusion procedures.

University student smartphone users adopt flexed neck postures during smartphone use, creating an increased compressive load on their neck structures. This study was conducted to compare the effects of proprioceptive and craniocervical flexor training with a control group on static balance in a group of university student smartphone users with balance impairment.
A double-blinded, randomized controlled trial was conducted involving 42 university students (19.67±1.68 years old) with balance impairment. Participants were randomized into a proprioceptive training (ProT) group (n=14), a craniocervical flexor training (CCFT) group (n=14), and a control group (CG; n=14) for a 6-week intervention. Examining whether modulation of right orbitofrontal cortex (OFC) activity by continuous theta-burst stimulation (cTBS) affects obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) symptoms.
A total of 28 treatment-resistant OCD participants were treated with either active or sham cTBS of the OFC twice per day, for five days a week, for 2 weeks, in a double-blinded manner. Clinical response to treatment was determined using the Yale-Brown Obsessive-Compulsive Scale (Y-BOCS).
There were no statistically significant differences between the 2 groups after two weeks of treatment in the Yale-Brown Obsessive-Compulsive Scale score (group*time interaction, F2,20=0.996, p=0.387) and other secondary outcome measures, including anxiety symptoms and responder rates. Depressive symptoms improved significantly in the active group (p=0.027), but the significant difference disappeared at 6 weeks (p=0.089).
This is the first randomized controlled study using cTBS in the right OFC to observe the improvement of treatment-resistant OCD symptoms. It is safe to use cTBS, but 2 weeks of treatment is not enough to achieve a curative effect. Future studies are needed to explore more advanced stimulation parameters suitable for the treatment of OCD.

We aimed to analyze the serum vitamin D level in Chinese patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) and discuss its correlation with nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD).
A total of 300 patients with T2DM (92 patients without NAFLD and 208 patients with NAFLD) were enrolled, and 25-hydroxyvitamin D [25-(OH)D] levels were compared between the two groups. Second, the NAFLD fibrosis score (NFS) and fatty liver index (FLI) were used to group patients with T2DM complicated by NAFLD, and the differences in serum 25-(OH)D in patients with different degrees of liver fibrosis were compared. Third, multiple regression analysis was used to analyze the independent predictors of liver fibrosis in patients with T2DM complicated by NAFLD.
The level of 25-(OH)D in patients with T2DM complicated by NAFLD was significantly lower than that in patients with T2DM alone. Based on the NFS and FLI, the 25-(OH)D level of the hepatic fibrosis subgroup was significantly lower than that of the subgroup without liver fibrosis. 25-(OH)D was found to be an independent predictor of liver fibrosis in patients with T2DM complicated by NAFLD.
The serum 25-(OH)D level in patients with T2DM complicated by NAFLD was significantly reduced, and the 25-(OH)D level showed a gradual downward trend with the degree of liver fibrosis. Low concentrations of 25-(OH)D may be indicative of the degree of liver fibrosis in diabetic patients.

The association of lactate and contrast-induced acute kidney injury (CI-AKI) has not been well established. This prospective study was planned to identify the effects of lactate level on the occurrence of CI-AKI and long-term prognosis with acute myocardial infarction (AMI) patients undergoing emergency percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI).
A total of 280 patients with AMI who underwent emergency PCI were selected from March 2018 to March 2019. A receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve was used to analyze the optimal cut-off value of lactate on predicting CI-AKI after PCI. A multivariable logistic regression model was used to explore the significant predictors that might affect the occurrence of CI-AKI after univariate analysis. The primary endpoints were clinical outcomes including events a combined endpoint of major adverse cardiovascular events, re-hospitalization due to heart failure, and worsening renal function. The Cox regression model was further used to analyze the predictors of the long-term prognosis after PCI.
