Calving ease (CE) is a trait of economic importance that affects animal welfare and farm profitability. The objective of present study was to investigate genetic and environmental factors affecting CE among Primiparous (PP) and multiparous (MP) buffaloes. A total of 9,627 records from 1999 MP and 2,110 PP recorded during the period from 1988 to 2018 were considered. Herd, season of calving, year of calving, birth weight, parity order and gestation length significantly affected CE rate, while age at first calving and sex of calf had no significant effects. Direct and maternal heritabilities of CE in PP and MP were 0.06 and 0.01, respectively. The low heritability of CE indicated that direct selection may not be an effective method to improve CE trait in Egyptian buffalo.Newly synthesized proteins support the development of functional neural circuits and previous work has suggested that dysregulated translation mediates certain forms of autism spectrum disorder (ASD). Here, we investigated the role of Target of Rapamycin Complex 1 (TORC1) in synaptic and dendritic development in vivo in the retinotectal system of Xenopus laevis tadpoles. We found that TORC1 signaling regulates dendritic growth and branching and that acute over-activation of TORC1 by Rheb overexpression drove enhanced maturation of excitatory synapses by recruiting AMPA receptors. Interestingly, TORC1 over-activation did not affect inhibitory transmission, resulting in a significant imbalance in the excitatory-to-inhibitory ratio. Rheb overexpression also enlarged excitatory visual input fields in tectal neurons, consistent with dysregulation of retinotopic input refinement and integration of the cell into the circuit. In contrast to other reports that mainly found impairments in synaptic inhibition using broad systemic deletion or mutation of TORC1 regulatory proteins, our findings from acute, local manipulation of TORC1 reveal its critical role in selectively regulating the number and maturity of excitatory, but not inhibitory, synapses in the developing brain. The general synergistic effect of TiO2 -based heterostructures has been discovered to improve the sodium storage of anodes, involving conversion, alloying, and insertion mechanism materials. Herein, metal sulfides (MS2 , M = Sn2+ , Co2+ , Mo2+ ), metallic Sb and Sn, as well as, carbon nanotubes (CNTs) are chosen as the model examples from the three kinds. The electrochemical testing demonstrates a better performance of heterostructrues involving TiO2 than the pristine anode components. The introduction of TiO2 into the MS2 and Sb or Sn systems induces a built-in electric field as the charge transfer force at the heterojunctions, greatly reducing the ion transfer resistance and promoting interfacial electron transfer. In the CNT/TiO2 structure, the chemical growth of TiO2 nanoparticles on the outer surface of CNTs makes the interface more compact than the physical blending case, offering better improvement of electrochemistry. read more The synergy should work via the growth of heterostructures, relying on the interface effects, which always plays the promotion role through the formation of driving force or grain boundaries and/or condense phase interface to facilitate charge transfer at the interface during the storage process. Therefore, the construction of reasonable heterostructures can endow materials with intriguing electrochemical performance based on the synergistic effect.
To present a nation-wide analysis of the workload of urology departments in Turkey week-by-week during Covid-19 pandemic.

The centres participating in the study were divided into three groups as tertiary referral centres, state hospitals and private practice hospitals. The number of outpatients, inpatients, daily interventions and urological surgeries were recorded prospectively between 9-March-2020 and 31-May-2020. All these variables were recorded for the same time interval of 2019 as well. The weekly change of the workload of urology during pandemic period was evaluated, also the workload of urology and the distributions of certain urological surgeries were compared between the pandemic period and the same time interval of the year 2019.

A total of 51 centres participated in the study. The number of outpatients, inpatients, urological surgeries and daily interventions were found to be dramatically decreased by the 3rd week of pandemics in state hospitals and tertiary referral centres; however, the daily urological practice were similar in private practice hospitals throughout the pandemic period. When the workload of urology in pandemic period and the same time interval of the year 2019 were compared, a huge decrease was observed in all variables during pandemic period. However, temporary measures like ureteral stenting, nephrostomy placement and percutaneous cystostomy have been found to increase during Covid-19 pandemic compared with normal life.

Covid-19 pandemic significantly affected the routine daily urological practice likewise other subspecialties and priority was given to emergent and non-deferrable surgeries by urologists in concordance with published clinical guidelines.

Uremic pruritus effects close to half of the chronic kidney disease population, reducing quality of life and associated with increased mortality. Its pathophysiology though is poorly understood; currently deployed therapeutic approaches are ineffective. Excessive levels of skin and soft tissue sodium accumulate in dialysis patients, producing a range of biological consequences, including inflammation. We report an index case of a hemodialysis patient with debilitating pruritus and extreme levels of tissue sodium, measured with Sodium-23 magnetic resonance imaging. Both the tissue sodium loading and pruritus responded fully to initiation of expanded hemodialysis therapy with a recently introduced medium cutoff dialysis membrane-based dialyzer.
