宇部市の宇部工業高校でサッカー部の２年生の男子生徒が部活動中に、強風で倒れてきたサッカーのゴールポストに足を挟まれ、足の骨を折る大けが。（１６日午後２時ごろ）
下関地方気象台によりますと、台風１１号の接近に伴い、山口県内は全域が風速１５メートル以上の強風域に入っていて、当時、宇部市では、１３．９メートルの最大瞬間風速を観測していました。
