Novel dummy magnetic molecularly imprinted polymers (dex-MMIPs) were prepared for highly selective recognition and fast enrichment of acrylamide (AA) in potato chips. Propionamide (PA) was used as dummy template molecule and the Fe3O4 nanoparticles modified with carboxymethyl dextran were developed as supports. Methacrylic acid (MAA) and ethyleneglycoldimethacrylate (EGDMA) were chosen as the functional monomer and cross-linker, respectively. Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) were used to characterize the synthesized dex-MMIPs. The adsorption of dex-MMIPs reached equilibrium within 20 min, and the maximum adsorption quantity (Qm) was 19.28 mg/g with the dissociation constant (Kd) of 35.7 mg/L. Moreover excellent recognition toward acrylamide was achieved compared to analogs, such as N, N'-methylenebisacrylamide (MBA) and nicotinamide (VPP). The satisfactory recoveries of 83.9-96.8% were achieved for selective separation and enrichment of AA in spiked potato chips by dex-MMIPs. A kinetic model for Maillard reaction (MR) model system of d-glucose and l-lysine was established; activation energy (Ea) of each step was calculated. Potential generation pathways of furosine and pyrraline were a combination of either 3-deoxyglucosone (3-DG) or methylglyoxal (MG) with l-lysine. Ea value for furosine generated through 3-DG pathway was 81.70 ± 14.01 kJ mol-1, which was significantly higher than that through MG pathway (52.08 ± 4.48 kJ mol-1). As for pyrraline, Ea for the 3-DG pathway (53.45 ± 4.02 kJ mol-1) was significantly lower than that through the MG pathway (110.22 ± 18.77 kJ mol-1). Results of the kinetic study indicated that furosine was preferred to be generated through the MG pathway since MG is more likely to react with each other and form a furan ring as a precursor of furosine. Pyrraline was more easily to be generated from the 3-DG pathway through cyclization of 1,4-dicarbonyl compounds to pyrrole. Tropomyosin present in mollusk species is the most common allergen in humans and causes excessive immune responses. To simultaneously detect tropomyosin allergens in mollusk species, a multiplex PCR assay combined with capillary electrophoresis was developed for the detection of tropomyosin genes of oyster, mussel, abalone, and clam, and the 18S rRNA gene of eukaryotes. The developed multiplex PCR revealed specific amplicons of four mollusk species [oyster (Crassostrea gigas), 150 bp; mussel (Mytilus edulis), 119 bp; abalone (Haliotis discus hannai), 98 bp; clam (Ruditapes philippinarum), 76 bp] and an amplicon of universal eukaryotic primer (eukaryotes, 190 bp); the detection limit of DNA was confirmed to be 16 pg. This multiplex PCR assay was applied for monitoring commercially processed seafood products, achieving successful detection of tropomyosin genes in 19 processed seafood products in Korea. The developed assay is an efficient and useful method for detecting tropomyosin allergens from mollusk species in seafoods. Insulin has many important biological functions. Insulin interacts with the insulin receptor (IR) to play its physiological role and execute its functions. Here, we isolated porcine hepatocytes from young and aged pigs, which endogenously express the IR, as a model to study the intracellular signalling properties and cellular behaviour of insulin with aging. Firstly, we analysed the intracellular signal transduction that is triggered by insulin in porcine hepatocytes that were isolated from young and aged pigs and found that insulin can strongly activate insulin receptor subunit (IRS), protein kinase B (AKT), and GSK in a time- and dose-dependent manner in hepatocytes from young pigs. On the contrary, the signalling response to insulin in hepatocytes from aged pigs was significantly reduced compared to that of the young pig. Secondly, the different subcellular locations of insulin/insulin receptor (IR) may result in different biological activities, although nuclear-localized insulin/IR still could exhibit impt of view. XAV-939 inhibitor Gastrointestinal nematodes are a major constraint in sheep production. Breeding for resistance has proven to be an effective and feasible approach to address this problem. The use and investigation of genetic markers for resistance traits could accelerate genetic progress and lead to a better understanding of underlying molecular mechanisms. Thus, the aim of this study was to evaluate if five single nucleotide polymorphisms SNPs OAR2_14765360, OAR6_81718546, OAR11_62887032, OAR12_69606944 and OAR15_59871543 are associated with resistance and resilience traits in a flock of the Morada Nova sheep breed. Lambs were submitted to two consecutive parasite challenges by oral infection with 4000 infective larvae L3) of Haemonchus contortus. Fecal egg counts (FEC), packed cell volume (PVC) and body weight were measured every one or two weeks for 42 days in each trial. DNA samples from 287 lambs, 131 ewes and 4 rams were amplified by ARMS-PCR or PCR-RFLP and genotypes were determined. Analysis of variance (ANOVA) was uphic SNPs and suggest their future use for explorations of these traits in Morada Nova sheep. AIM To evaluate the safety and efficacy of Lactobacillus for preventing necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC) in preterm infants. METHODS We searched the Cochrane Library, PubMed, EMBASE, and Web of Science databases from inception to September 2019. Risk ratios (RRs) with 95% confidence intervals (CIs) were calculated to compare outcomes. We also performed a subgroup analysis of the incidence of NEC. Moreover, a sensitivity analysis was performed to examine the stability of the results. A Begg funnel plot was generated to detect publication bias. Two reviewers assessed trial quality and extracted data independently. This work has been reported in line with the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic reviews and Meta-Analyses statement and the Assessing the Methodological Quality of Systematic Reviews guidelines. Statistical analysis was performed using standard procedures in Review Manager 5.2 software. RESULTS Twenty-three randomized, placebo-controlled studies (N = 4686 participants) were included in this analysis.
