Miniature yoked eye movements, fixational saccades, are critical to counteract visual fading. Fixational saccades are followed by a return saccades forming squarewaves. Present in healthy states, squarewaves, if too many or too big, affect visual stability. Parkinson's disease (PD), where visual deficits are not uncommon, is associated with the squarewaves that are excessive in number or size. Our working hypothesis is that the basal ganglia are at the epicenter of the abnormal fixational saccades and squarewaves in PD; the effects are manifested through their connections to the superior colliculus (affecting saccade frequency and amplitude) and the cerebellum (affecting velocity and amplitude). We predict that the subthalamic deep brain stimulation (DBS) variably affects the amplitude, frequency, and velocity of fixational saccade and that the effect depends on the electrode's proximity or the volume of activated tissue in the subthalamic nucleus' connections with the superior colliculus or the cerebellum. We found that DBS modulated saccade amplitude, frequency, and velocity in 11 PD patients. Although all three parameters were affected, the extent of the effects varied amongst subjects. The modulation was dependent upon the location and size of the electrically activated volume of the subthalamic region.Reprogramming glycolysis for directing glycolytic metabolites to a specific metabolic pathway is expected to be useful for increasing microbial production of certain metabolites, such as amino acids, lipids or considerable secondary metabolites. In this report, a strategy of increasing glycolysis by altering the metabolism of inositol pyrophosphates (IPs) for improving the production of S-adenosyl-L-methionine (SAM) for diverse pharmaceutical applications in yeast is presented. The genes associated with the metabolism of IPs, arg82, ipk1 and kcs1, were deleted, respectively, in the yeast strain Saccharomyces cerevisiae CGMCC 2842. It was observed that the deletions of kcs1 and arg82 increased SAM by 83.3 % and 31.8 %, respectively, compared to that of the control. In addition to the improved transcription levels of various glycolytic genes and activities of the relative enzymes, the levels of glycolytic intermediates and ATP were also enhanced. To further confirm the feasibility, the kcs1 was deleted in the high SAM-producing strain Ymls1ΔGAPmK which was deleted malate synthase gene mls1 and co-expressed the Acetyl-CoA synthase gene acs2 and the SAM synthase gene metK1 from Leishmania infantum, to obtain the recombinant strain Ymls1Δkcs1ΔGAPmK. BMS-986158 mw The level of SAM in Ymls1Δkcs1ΔGAPmK reached 2.89 g L-1 in a 250-mL flask and 8.86 g L-1 in a 10-L fermentation tank, increasing 30.2 % and 46.2 %, respectively, compared to those levels in Ymls1ΔGAPmK. The strategy of increasing glycolysis by deletion of kcs1 and arg82 improved SAM production in yeast. The Referential Process (RP) has three functions or processes, called Arousal, Symbolizing, and Reflecting/Reorganizing. Taken together, these provide a framework within which to address the question how do people connect nonverbal experience and verbal forms. The purpose of this paper is to describe the Discourse Attributes Analysis Program (DAAP), which uses certain dictionaries or word lists to produce measures that model the referential process functions. These dictionaries are also described. The referential process may occur in any type of discourse context and the DAAP computer system may be applied to any type of verbal data. The focus in this paper is on transcripts of psychotherapy sessions. DAAP provides numeric and graphic data at several levels of discourse including word-by-word data concerning dictionary matches; average data for each turn of speech; average data for each speaker for each session; numeric data and graphic images for each session; and overall session data for each treatment. Graphic images of the ebb and flow of these computer generated functions of the referential process over the course of a therapy session are presented and interpreted. There are also discussions of new relational measures, as well as the referential process data base, which currently contains numerical data for 22 treatments, and presentations of several applications. The treatment of severe glenoid bone loss in shoulder arthroplasty represents a challenge, and the results of current prosthetic designs with only glenoid fixation still remain unsatisfactory. In the past decade, customized glenoid prostheses have been developed to address severe glenoid arthritis and in the revision setting. In this review, we analyzed the current surgical options, the classification limits, past literature evidence, and our preliminary results of 6 patients (3 male, 3 female) treated with a reverse implant and custom-made glenoid implant (ProMade; LimaCorporate, Italy). Computer analysis of the residual shape and the amount of glenoid bone stock in association with new classifications could help the surgeon to obtain good clinical and radiological outcomes. The development of navigation systems could improve the adequacy of the implant and, thus, the reliability and longevity of the implant itself.
Chronic subdural hematoma (CSDH) is a common pathology in neurosurgery, especially in the elderly patients, and its incidence is likely to double in the next decade. Considering various features of CSDH and the procedure itself, a sitting position may retain the best characteristics of classic positioning, while offering additional comfort for both the patient and the surgeon. The aim of this study was to describe the technical aspects of this procedure in the sitting position, to evaluate safety and discuss the benefits and shortcomings of this modification.

This study included a series of 55 patients surgically treated for CSDH in a sitting position at our department between December 2017 and September 2019, representing all the patients operated on during the study period by a single surgeon. Bilateral hematomas were present in 19 patients. Outcomes, during the 6-month follow-up period, were defined as good (CSDH and symptoms resolved) or poor (lethal outcome or reoccurrence). All complications were noted, with emphasis on pneumocephalus, and complications related to the sitting position tension pneumocephalus, venous air embolism, and compression nerve injury.
