Further studies are needed to determine whether telemedicine improves DS or QoL in settings with few resources. © 2020 Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation. Often considered a commensal, this opportunistic yeast has been shown to play a role in denture related disease, though whether it is an active participant or innocent bystander remains to be determined. This study sought to understand the role of Candida species alongside the bacterial microbiome in a denture patient cohort, exploring how the microbiology of the denture was affected by oral hygiene practices. Materials and methods In vitro denture cleansing studies were performed on a complex 9-species interkingdom denture biofilm model, with quantitative assessment of retained bacterial and fungal viable bioburdens. Patient hygiene measures were also collected from 131 patients, including OHIP, frequency of denture cleansing, oral hygiene measure and patient demographics. The bacterial microbiome was analysed from each patient, alongside quantitative PCR assessment of ITS (fungal) and 16S (bacterial) bioburden from denturucture and a shift from health to disease when the opportunity arises. © 2019 The Authors.Trauma activity recognition aims to detect, recognize, and predict the activities (or tasks) during a trauma resuscitation. Previous work has mainly focused on using various sensor data including image, RFID, and vital signals to generate the trauma event log. However, spoken language and environmental sound, which contain rich communication and contextual information necessary for trauma team cooperation, are still largely ignored. In this paper, we propose a multimodal attention network (MAN) that uses both verbal transcripts and environmental audio stream as input; the model extracts textual and acoustic features using a multi-level multi-head attention module, and forms a final shared representation for trauma activity classification. We evaluated the proposed architecture on 75 actual trauma resuscitation cases collected from a hospital. We achieved 72.4% accuracy with 0.705 F1 score, demonstrating that our proposed architecture is useful and efficient. These results also show that using spoken language and environmental audio indeed helps identify hard-to-recognize activities, compared to previous approaches. We also provide a detailed analysis of the performance and generalization of the proposed multimodal attention network.Purpose The decision to treat mild obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) often hinges on the presence of subjective daytime sleepiness. This study was done to identify clinical and polysomnographic features which correlate with subjective sleepiness in mild OSA. Methods Utilizing data from the Apnea Positive Pressure Long-term Efficacy Study, 199 participants with mild OSA were identified. Participants were grouped as "sleepy" or "non-sleepy" based on their responses to a question regarding excessive daytime sleepiness, and Epworth Sleepiness Scores. We compared demographic, clinical and baseline polysomnographic data between the groups. Results The prevalence of subjective sleepiness was 74.4%. The sleepy group was younger (46.1 ± 12.6 vs. 53.3 ± 13.1 years, p=0.001), reported lower quality of life (4.5 ± 0.69 vs. 4.9 ± 0.61, p=0.0002), had higher depression scores (5.4 ± 4.7 vs. 3.1 ± 3.5, p=0.003) and reported more naps per week (2.6 ± 2.9 vs. 1.3 ± 1.9, p=0.01). Total sleep time and sleep efficiency were notably higher in the sleepy (254.2 ± 106 vs. 220.4 ± 114 min, p=0.08) and (80.2 ± 12.6 vs. 75.7 ± 14.9 %, p=0.06), approaching statistical significance. The non-sleepy group had slightly higher apnea hypopnea index (AHI 12.2 ± 1.5 vs. 11.2 ± 2.4 events/hour, p=0.01) and worse desaturation indices. Conclusions Subjective sleepiness in mild OSA is associated with younger age, worsened mood and quality of life. This study suggests that evidence of increased sleep drive on polysomnography may correlate with subjective sleepiness in mild OSA.Toxic metals have been associated with lower birth weight while essential metals have been associated with higher birth weight. Evidence for other metals is either inconsistent or limited in terms of number of studies. This study analyzed 17 urinary metals, individually and as a mixture, and their association with measures of fetal growth in the LIFECODES birth cohort. Ultrasound was used to measure abdominal circumference, head circumference, and femur length and measures were used to calculate estimated fetal weight at ~26 and ~35 weeks. We calculated the z-score based on gestational age at scan, and estimated fetal weight (EFW) was combined with birth weight for longitudinal analyses. Metals were measured in samples collected at ~26 weeks. We used linear mixed effects models to examine associations between metals and repeated measures of each outcome, controlling for covariates. Principal components analysis reduced the biomarkers to predictors that may share some commonality. We found that an interquartile range increase in selenium was inversely associated with femur length z-score as well as other growth outcomes. Other essential metals, however, were associated with an increase in growth. Finally, the PCA component comprised of arsenic, mercury, and tin was associated with decreased head circumference z-score (-0.14 [95% CI -0.23, -0.05]).According to the activity-structure relationship of the C-13 side chain in paclitaxel or docetaxel, eighteen novel paclitaxel-dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA) hybrids were designed and synthesized by Pd(II)-catalyzed Suzuki-Miyaura cross-coupling of 17-trifluoromethanesulfonic enolate-DHEA with different aryl boronic acids. The in vitro anticancer activity of the hybrids against a human liver cancer cell line (HepG-2) was evaluated by MTT assay, showing that most of these hybrids possessed moderate antiproliferative activity against the HepG-2 cancer cell line. Among these hybrids, three ones (7b, 7g, and 7i) with ortho-substituents in the phenyl group of the D-ring of DHEA analogues exhibited moderate anticancer activity. The optimal compound 7i showed superior anticancer activity against the HepG-2 cell line with an IC50 value of 26.39 μM. Copyright © 2020 American Chemical Society.
