Background Uterine pyomyoma is a rare complication of uterine artery embolization (UAE), and causes significant morbidity and mortality. This report describes the diagnosis and prompt management of this condition. Case A 48-year-old woman presented with fever, chills, and diffuse abdominal pain 15 days after undergoing UAE for symptomatic fibroids. Computed tomography showed the uterus to be significantly distended, with multiple intra-cavitary masses containing a large amount of gas and air-fluid level. Sepsis secondary to post-UAE pyomyoma was suspected. Hemodynamic resuscitation and broad-spectrum antibiotics were immediately started. The patient underwent emergency exploratory laparotomy with total hysterectomy. Conclusion In order to ensure appropriate and timely intervention, the diagnosis of uterine pyomyoma should be considered in patients presenting with signs of infection and abdominal pain after UAE. © 2020 Published by Elsevier B.V.Introduction Obstructed hemivagina ipsilateral renal agenesis (OHVIRA) is a rare anomaly of the urogenital system. The characteristic triad of this syndrome, which was initially reported in 1950, is didelphys uterus, obstructed hemivagina, and ipsilateral renal agenesis (Embrey, 1950 [1]). Case A 17-year-old girl was referred with a 6-month history of offensive vaginal discharge. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) established the diagnosis of OHVIRA. She underwent surgery for drainage of the hematocolpos and excision of the vaginal septum followed by an uncomplicated recovery and the patient had normal menstrual cycles after surgery. Conclusion There should be a high suspicion of OHVIRA syndrome when encountering adolescent patients with non-specific abdominal or pelvic symptoms. © 2020 The Authors.Introduction While men display lower help-seeking rates than women, there is a lack of mental health interventions targeting men. To address this issue, we developed a smartphone app named MindMax, an Australian Football League (AFL)-themed app containing psychoeducational modules teaching strategies derived from positive psychology and acceptance and commitment therapy. MindMax also incorporates gamification, casual video games, and social connection and is intended to appeal to male Australians interested in AFL. This study reports results from a naturalistic trial intended to investigate whether using MindMax was associated with improved wellbeing, resilience, and help-seeking intentions. selleck inhibitor Methods We conducted a naturalistic trial from July 2017 to May 2018, where participants were given access to MindMax to use as they wished, and asked to answer wellbeing surveys at multiple time points. As we employed a customised version of the General Help-Seeking Questionnaire (GHSQ), we conducted an exploratory factor findings are encouraging as they could be attributed to participants' exposure to MindMax. However, they could also be attributed to other factors that may also have motivated trial participation. Sweet, Murrayakoenigii (L.) Spreng, Moringaoleifera (Lam.), Hibiscussabdariffa (L.) and Euphorbiahirta (L.) are most commonly used medicinal plants by the traditional healers of Karbi Anglong district of Assam, India against different human ailments including cancer suspected cases. The proposed study includes field survey related to ethnomedicinal aspects of medicinal plants, phytochemical analysis, and evaluation of their cytostatic potential with the possible mode of action against Dalton's lymphoma (DL) cell line. The phytochemical analysis of all the plant's extract was studied using standard protocol. The cytotoxicity of the methanol extracts was determined by MTT reduction assay. The effect of the same extract was also tested for development of apoptosis features in DL cells using a fluorescence microscope and flowcytometry. The underlying mechanism closely associated with apoptotic cell death was also studied by measuring reactive oxygen species (ROS), mitochondrial membrane potential, and expression level of apoptosis inducing proteins. Murraya koenigii induced more apoptotic features in DL cells, followed by Annona reticulate. The decrease in mitochondrial membrane potential, release of cytochrome- c, increase in ROS level and higher expression of caspases (3 and 9) after plant extracts treatment may cause involvement of mitochondria in the process of apoptosis. From this study, it can be concluded that the plant species mainly Murraya koenigi and Annona reticulate significantly induced cytotoxicity in DL cells through apoptosis by utilizing mitochondrial pathway. © 2020 Published by Elsevier B.V.Subchronic intoxications induced in male rats by repeated intraperitoneal injections of lead acetate and cadmium chloride, administered either alone or in combination, are shown to affect the biochemical, cytological and morphometric parameters of blood, liver, heart and kidneys. The single twitch parameters of myocardial trabecular and papillary muscle preparations were measured in the isometric regime to identify changes in the heterometric (length-force) and chronoinotropic (frequency-force) contractility regulation systems. Differences in the responses of these systems in trabecules and papillary muscles to the above intoxications are shown. A number of myocardium mechanical characteristics changing in rats under the effect of a combined lead-cadmium intoxication and increased proportion of α-myosin heavy chains were observed to normalize fully or partially if such intoxication was induced against background administration of a proposed bioprotective complex. Based on the experimental results and literature data, some assumptions are suggested concerning the mechanisms of the cardiotoxic effects produced by lead and cadmium. © 2020 Published by Elsevier B.V.Renal scintigraphy of a renal graft is a non-invasive imaging used to evaluate renal graft dysfunction in relay postoperative period. We presented the case of a 42-year-old man when underwent renal transplantation and developed anuria with severe renal impairment. Renal scintigraphy yielded no visualization of the renal graft. Subsequently, the patient underwent an exploratory laparotomy. The graft was found to have normal perfusion, and a surgical biopsy suggestive of an acute perfusion injury and mild tubular necrosis. The patient recovered with conservative therapy. This case highlights a common limitation of renal scintigraphy in a post-renal-transplantation patient with severe renal impairment. © 2020 The Author(s).
