Removal efficiencies of micropollutants by ozone and Fenton oxidation were determined in the range of 5-100%. Although the removal efficiencies of chemical oxygen demand (COD) and some micropollutants such as phthalates were found much higher in the Fenton process than ozonation, the degradation products occurred during the Fenton oxidation were a higher molecular weight. Moreover, the oxidation intermediates for the both processes were found as mainly benzaldehyde, pentanoic acid and hydro cinnamic acid as well as derivatives of naphthalenone and naphthalenediol. Also, acid ester with higher molecular weight, naphthalene-based and phenolic compounds were detected in the Fenton oxidation.A process of antibiotic fermentation residue and sludge pyrolysis to produce biochar was proposed, with antibiotic resistance genes destruction and biochar application in the adsorption of penicillin in water. The results showed that the β-lactam resistance genes were completely destroyed during pyrolysis. The prepared biochar from antibiotic fermentation residues (AFRB) and sludge (AFSB) at 800 °C and 600 °C had a good adsorption effect on the low concentration penicillin in water, with removal efficiencies of 93.32% and 98.50% for penicillin in aqueous solution and maximum adsorption capacities of 44.05 mg/g and 23.26 mg/g, respectively. Characterization of AFRB revealed that its surface was predominantly aromatic carbon, AFSB contained significant amounts of Fe3O4. Weak interactions (H‧‧‧π, H‧‧‧O˭C, π-π interactions) and active sites (aromatic ring, H and -C˭O groups) of penicillin with aromatic structures on AFRB and the chemisorption (-C˭O-Fe-, -C˭OO-Fe-), and active sites (-C˭O, -COO- groups) of penicillin on the (110) surface of Fe3O4 on AFSB were revealed by quantum chemical methods. This work provides a novel pathway for the risk reduction of antibiotic production residue and sludge associated with the generation of biochar for antibiotic removal from the environment.Herein, we attempted to apply an exhausted magnetic biochar with adsorbed Cu2+ (Cu-Fe@BRC) directly as a PMS activator and explored the feasibility of this attempt. Density functional theory (DFT) and electrochemical analysis illuminated the adsorbed Cu2+ in Cu-Fe@BRC improved PMS activation and NOR degradation efficiency by elevating the adsorption capacity of PMS and performance of electron transfer. About 91.47% of norfloxacin (NOR) was rapidly degraded in Cu-Fe@BRC/PMS system with low Fe and Cu leaching. An in-depth mechanistic study was conducted with radical scavenging, radical capturing and solvent exchange, which demonstrated that the adsorbed Cu2+ could facilitate the formation of both different radicals and non-radical. Importantly, Cu-Fe@BRC can maintain a long-term stable operation and excellent catalytic performance in surface water treatment. The potential toxicity of by-product generated in the NOR degradation process was also predicated, and results suggested that most identified by-products were less toxic than NOR itself. Notably, the preparation cost of exhausted adsorbent-based catalysts could be negligible, so the expenditure of the corresponding oxidation process is reduced accordingly. Based on above, this work provides not only a low-cost exhausted biochar-based catalyst for water purification but also the insight into the PMS activation by adsorbed transition metal ions.It is well known that arbuscular mycorrhizal (AM) fungi can enhance plant arsenic (As) resistance by influencing As uptake, translocation, and speciation; however, As transformation and volatilization by an entire plant inoculated with AM fungus remains uninvestigated. In the present study, AM symbiosis of Rhizophagus irregularis with unbroken Medicago sativa was successfully established in vitro. Afterwards, five concentrations of arsenate were applied to the culture media. The results showed that AM inoculation could methylate inorganic As into dimethylarsinic acid (DMA), dimethylarsine (DMAsH), and trimethylarsine (TMAs), which were detected in the plants, media, or air. Volatile As, accounting for a small proportion of total organic As, appeared under high arsenate exposure, accompanied by remarkable upregulation of root RiMT-11, an arsenite methyltransferase gene in R. irregularis. In addition, AM colonization significantly increased arsenite percentages in plant tissues and external media. Selleckchem 5-Fluorouracil Regardless of As species, AM inoculation tended to release the transformed As into the environment rather than transfer them to plant tissues. Our present study, for the first time, comprehensively verified As methylation, volatilization, and reduction by AM fungus associated with the entire plant under absolute axenic conditions and gained a deeper insight into As metabolism in AM symbionts.Understanding domestic dog population dynamics and ecology is crucial to any effective rabies control program. This study was conducted as part of the baseline epidemiological studies necessary for the establishment of the Kwara Rabies Rapid Alert System "KRRAS". This study aimed to determine the dog population structure of Kwara State by assessing the dog ownership, vaccination status, and prevalence of dog bites. A total of 1460 questionnaires were administered to respondents in the three senatorial zones of the state using Open Data Kit (ODK) between June 2019 to January 2020. Of the 1460 households surveyed, 293 (20.1 %) owned at least one dog with an average of 2.25 dogs per household. The male to female ratio was 1.91 and 79.3 % (n = 523/659) of the owned dogs were local breeds. A total of 785 dogs was enumerated (659 dogs from 293 households and 126 free-roaming dogs) and 7811 persons which resulted in a dog-human ratio of 19.95. The estimated dog population is 376,789 (95 % CI 343,700 - 379,878). Onlyvaccination coverage, and high number of free roaming dogs. Hence, a threat to public health. The low dog vaccination coverage is below the 70-80 % target recommended for herd immunity by the World Health Organization.
The accurate segmentation of pre-treatment and post-treatment organs is always perceived as a challenging task in medical image analysis field. Especially, in those situations where the amount of data set is limited, the researchers are compelled to design unsupervised model for segmentation. In this paper, we propose a novel dynamically learned particle swarm optimization based neighborhood influenced fuzzy c-means (DLPSO-NIFCM) clustering (unsupervised learning model) for solving pre-treatment and post-treatment organs segmentation problems. The proposed segmentation technique has been successfully applied to segment the liver parts from the Computed Tomography (CT) images of abdomen and also the lung parenchyma from the lungs CT images.
In the proposed method, we formulate a primary convex objective function by considering the membership value of a pixel as well as the membership of its other neighboring pixels. Then we apply a new algebraic transformation on the primary objective function to design a new and more suitable objective function without losing convexity of the primary objective function.
