mechanism of action was assessed following partial RFA by measuring IL-6, HGF, and VEGF expression (ELISA) and c-Met protein (Western blot). Finally, RFA was performed in R3230 tumors with adjuvant c-Met kinase inhibitor or VEGF receptor inhibitor (at 3 days post-RFA,
= 3/arm, total
= 12).
RFA stimulated tumor growth
in residual, incompletely treated surrounding CT26 and MC38 tumor at 3-6 days (
< 0.01). In R3230, RFA increased tumor growth in distant tumor 7 days post treatment compared to controls (
< 0.001). For all models, Ki-67 and CD34 were elevated (
< 0.01, all comparisons). IL-6, HGF, and VEGF were also upregulated post incomplete tumor RFA (
< 0.01). These markers were suppressed to baseline levels with adjuvant c-MET kinase or VEGF receptor inhibition.

To explore the feasibility of high-intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU) ablation for treating metastatic pelvic tumors and recurrent ovary cancer.
Eight patients with metastatic pelvic tumors or recurrent ovary cancer were enrolled in this study. Among them, 5 patients had ovarian cancer, 1 had cervical cancer, 1 had endometrial cancer, and 1 had rectal cancer. Six of them received abdominal surgical operation for their primary cancer, no one received radiotherapy. HIFU treatment was performed under conscious sedation. Vital signs were monitored during the procedure, and adverse effects were recorded. Postoperative follow-up was performed to observe pain relief and the improvement of the patient's quality of life.
The median age of the patients was 54 (range 33-76) years, with a total of 12 lesions. The average volume of the lesions was 238.0 cm
. Six patients completed 12 months follow-up. Postoperative pain relief rate was 60% (3/5), and the quality of life improved in the short term. The main adverse effect of HIFU was pain in the treated area, with the pain score lower than 4, and all of which was self-relieved within 1 day after HIFU treatment. To study the efficacy of LITT for BM patients experiencing in-field recurrence following SRS.
A literature search was conducted to identify studies investigating local control (LC) rate and overall survival (OS) of LITT for BMs with IFR following SRS.
Analysis included 14 studies (470 patients with 542 lesions). The 6-month (LC-6) and 12-month (LC-12) local control rates were 78.5% (95% CI 70.6-84.8%) and 69.0% (95% CI 60.0-76.7%) separately. Pooled median OS was 17.15 months (95% CI 13.27-24.8). The overall OS-6 and OS-12 rates were 76.0% (95% CI 71.4-80.0%) and 63.4% (95% CI 52.9-72.7%) separately. LITT provided more favorable local control efficacy in RN than BM recurrence (LC-6 87.4% vs. 67.9%,
= 0.009; LC-12 76.3% vs. 59.9%,
= 0.041).
LITT is an effective treatment for BM patients experiencing IFR following SRS. For different pathological entities, LITT showed more satisfactory local control efficacy on RN than BM recurrence.
