The family Phytoseiidae contains many predatory mite species and some are used in biological control programs worldwide. The identification of phytoseiid mites is based on tiny morphological structures and sometimes species diagnosis is not easy especially for non-taxonomists. DNA-based approaches may offer a fast and accurate diagnosis to overcome these difficulties, nevertheless more DNA sequences are needed to determine intra- and inter-specific variations and to provide accurate decision rules based on genetic distances between the taxa considered. In this study, we provide the molecular characterization of seven phytoseiid species based on the internal transcribed spacer (ITS) region. Several populations of these species collected in Turkey were considered. A phylogenetic tree was also constructed. Finally, we record the presence of Neoseiulus reductus (Wainstein) in Turkey. The original version of this article unfortunately contained a mistake in the authorgroup section. The authors' given and family names were inadvertently interchanged. After re-read our published article, the authors found a mistake and would like to make correction Fig. 4a, b, 0h groups, we mistakenly placed wrong representative staining pictures in the original figure, the correct figures are showed as follow.Psychiatric diseases and metabolic disorders frequently cooccur, yet the mechanisms underlying this interaction remain unknown. The aim of this study was to determine the role of glucocorticoid receptor (GR) phosphorylation in the comorbidity of metabolic and psychiatric disorders. Neonatal Sprague-Dawley rats were subcutaneously injected with monosodium glutamate (MSG) every 2 days for 10 days after birth. Metabolic and behavioral tests were performed 12 weeks later. Golgi staining and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) were performed to evaluate synaptic structural plasticity. Changes in GR phosphorylation and the BDNF/TrkB pathway were evaluated by western blotting and immunofluorescence. We found that MSG-treated rats displayed significant metabolic abnormalities accompanied by anxiogenic and depressive behaviors, an altered synaptic ultrastructure and the loss of dendritic spines. The expression of phosphorylated GR was reduced in the brain. Furthermore, a specific agonist of BDNF/TrkB significantly reversed the reduction in GR phosphorylation, as well as the metabolic and behavioral outcomes. selleck chemicals These findings indicate that a decrease in BDNF/TrkB pathway-dependent GR phosphorylation is a long-term effect of MSG treatment that may contribute to metabolic and behavioral disturbances.Traumatic brain injury (TBI) is a critical health problem worldwide, with a high incidence rate and potentially severe long-term consequences. Depending on the level of mechanical stress, astrocytes react with complex morphological and functional changes known as reactive astrogliosis. In cases of severe tissue injury, astrocytes proliferate in the area immediately adjacent to the lesion to form the glial scar, which is a major barrier to neuronal regeneration in the central nervous system. The flavonoid agathisflavone has been shown to have neuroprotective, neurogenic, and immunomodulatory effects and could have beneficial effects in situations of TBI. In this study, we investigated the effects of agathisflavone on modulating the responses of astrocytes and neurons to injury, using the in vitro scratch wound model of TBI in primary cultures of rat cerebral cortex. In control conditions, the scratch wound induced an astroglial injury response, characterized by upregulation of glial fibrillary acidic protein (GFAP) and hypertrophy, together with the reduction in proportion of neurons within the lesion site. Treatment with agathisflavone (1 μM) decreased astroglial GFAP expression and hypertrophy and induced an increase in the number of neurons and neurite outgrowth into the lesion site. Agathisflavone also induced increased expression of the neurotrophic factors NGF and GDNF, which are associated with the neuroprotective profile of glial cells. These results demonstrate that in an in vitro model of TBI, the flavonoid agathisflavone modulates the astrocytic injury response and glial scar formation, stimulating neural recomposition.Purpose of review Urologists are at significant risk due to radiation exposure (RE) from endourological procedures for stone disease. Many techniques described have shown a reduction of RE. The purpose of this article is to review available protocols to decrease RE during such procedures and provide tips and tricks for their implementation. Recent findings Several low-radiation and radiation-free protocols for percutaneous nephrolithotomy and flexible ureteroscopy have been described as an attempt to reduce RE during surgery. Beginning with specific checklists to ensure adequate C-arm usage, fluoroless procedures are based on endoscopic assessment, tactile guidance, and use of ultrasound to avoid fluoroscopy. A specific preoperative checklist and low radiation or complete fluoroless radiation endourological procedures have shown to be effective, feasible, and safe. It is recommended for urologists to be aware of the risks of RE and apply the "ALARA" (As Low As Reasonably Achievable) protocols.Purpose of review In spite of recent advances in treatment, many people with multiple sclerosis (MS) require ongoing care and support. Informal caregivers can experience burden as a result of their role, with possible implications for quality of life (QOL). We review recent research examining MS caregiver experience to (1) understand current risk factors for caregiver burden and (2) identify possible strategies for increasing carer well-being. Recent findings MS caregiver experience is highly variable and can be predicted by a variety of care recipient, caregiver and contextual factors. Burden is not the only characteristic associated with care, with positive consequences also reported. Emerging research suggests a number of ways in which carers can be better supported. Identifying and meeting the needs of MS caregivers offers the best way of delivering tailored support. Future research should focus on the development of psychosocial supports, while acknowledging the needs of those caring for different MS patient populations.
