Seminars inside perinatology: Brain image from the early neonate the length of white-colored make any difference injuries in preterm neonates.
Further, the networks, which could be linked with suppressing information from the to-be-ignored stream included brain areas associated with high-level processing of speech. These results are compatible with late filtering models of auditory attention, as they suggest that the length of intact speech units in the to-be-ignored stream affects processes of attentional selection. However, we found no evidence for speech-to-brain coupling differences as a function of the intact unit of speech in either stream. Thus, although the current results do not rule out that early processes of speech processing affect stream selection in a cocktail party situation, neither do they provide supporting for it.Second-order motor planning of grasping movements is usually measured using tasks that focus on the relative (dis)comfort of end posture of the arm and hand regardless of the objective outcome of performance. This may underestimate the ability for forward planning in young children. In the current study, we aimed to examine the developmental mechanisms of motor planning in children using a task that necessitates second-order motor planning for its successful completion. We tested 311 children (aged 5-12 years) who were instructed to grasp and rotate a hexagonal knob over 60°, 120°, 180°, or 240°. The 180° and 240° rotation conditions necessitated adjustment of the preferred start grip for successful task completion. We examined successful or unsuccessful task completion, reaction time (RT), and movement time (MT) as a function of task demands (i.e., rotation angle) and age. Results showed that most children of all ages were able to successfully complete the task in the 180° rotation condition. In the most demanding 240° rotation condition, many children had difficulty in completing the task, but successful task completion increased with age. Time course analysis showed increased RT and MT with increasing task demands. Furthermore, whereas RT decreased with age for each rotation angle, MT remained stable with the exception of an increase in MT for the most demanding rotation condition. Together, these results exemplify that children aged 5-12 years are indeed able to engage in forward planning. With development, second-order motor planning proficiency increases, especially for more demanding movements, and the process becomes more efficient. The Portuguese continental coast is influenced by several oceanographic processes and is located near the confluence of three biogeographic realms (from the North Atlantic, South Atlantic and Mediterranean). Given these features, the topography of the Portuguese coast, possible variations in fishing effort and reported increasing sea surface temperature in the last decades, we hypothesized that changes in marine communities in space and time occurred since 1990. In this study, research survey data collected yearly along the Portuguese continental slope (20-500 m deep) from 1990 to 2016 were analysed with the objective of identifying spatio-temporal changes. Latitude and depth were found to play a major role in communities' spatial differentiation, probably associated to temperature, and three ecological areas were defined (north, southwest and south). ML133 In the studied period, Macroramphosus spp. abundance showed a marked decrease in all areas whereas Sparids increased in abundance in the south. Despite these major changes and fluctuations in species abundance over time no major trends in communities were observed. Fishing activity, environmental conditions (including climate change) and biotic factors are all drivers possibly responsible for those changes. Most of environmental monitoring programs include measurements of the air dose rates and the radionuclides activity concentration in plants. Both these parameters depend on deposition density of radionuclides. Therefore, measurements of one parameter can (with some supplementary information) be used as an indicator for the other parameter. After the Fukushima Dai-ichi Nuclear Power Plant (FDNPP) accident, the Emergency Operation Centre (EOC) operated by the Environmental Radioactivity Monitoring centre of Fukushima and Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (MAFF) of Japan carried out large sampling programme over different distances from the NPP. The sampling programme was focused on the usage of the weed leaves as a proxy for the prediction of radionuclide transfer to some cultivated plants. The MAFF monitoring programme in 2011-2016 was addressed mainly to agricultural crops. In both cases, the air dose rates were measured at the sites of the sampling. The paper addresses the assessments of relationship between radionuclide activities concentrations in plants and ambient dose rates. The time-dependent relationships were quantified based on weed, buckwheat, brown rice and soybean data obtained in 2011-2016. The recommendations on optimizing emergency sampling programmes based on use of the data of ambient dose rates are also presented.Concentration of uranium (U), a naturally encountered radioactive element in earth's crust, can be enhanced in freshwater ecosystems (μg.L-1 - mg.L-1) due to various anthropogenic activities. The consequent aquatic organism exposure to U leads to its accumulation in all organs, particularly in the gonad, and in subcellular fractions (mainly the cytosol); then it is known to affect fish at several biological levels, and more particularly, at a reproduction endpoint, with a decrease in the total number of eggs, spawn events and larvae survival. The understanding of U reprotoxicity requires the fine knowledge of its speciation at molecular level, i.e., its interaction with cytosolic biomolecules. In this study, we focus on the U-protein interactions in gonads. A non-denaturating extraction protocol combined with size exclusion chromatography (SEC) allowed the separation of metal-protein complexes in ovaries of U-contaminated wild roaches before their elemental detection (ICP MS). This enables unprecedented information to be obtained about U distribution in ovaries of autochthonous fish, Rutilus rutilus, which is different in some points from that obtained in the model species, Danio rerio under controlled laboratory conditions at a similar concentration level. Finally, the ability to transpose results from model to autochthonous fish was briefly discussed.
