In this paper, we report on the spectral detection of wustite, Fe(II) oxide (FeO), and magnetite, Fe(II, III) oxide (Fe3O4), molecular emissions during the combustion of pyrite (FeS2), in a laboratory-scale furnace operating at high temperatures. These species are typically generated by reactions occurring during the combustion (oxidation) of this iron sulfide mineral. Two detection schemes are addressed the first consisting of measurements with a built-in developed spectrometer with a high sensitivity and a high spectral resolution. HC-7366 cell line The second one consisting of spectra measured with a low spectral resolution and a low sensitivity commercial spectrometer, but enhanced and analyzed with post signal processing and multivariate data analysis such as principal component analysis (PCA) and a multivariate curve resolution - the alternating least squares method (MCR-ALS). A non-linear model is also proposed to reconstruct spectral signals measured during pyrite combustion. Different combustion conditions were studied to evaluate the capacity of the detection schemes to follow the spectral emissions of iron oxides. The results show a direct correlation between FeO and Fe3O4 spectral features intensity, and non-linear relations with key combustion variables such as flame temperature, and the combusted sulfide mineral particle size.(1) Background Test anxiety has been found to negatively affect students' mental health and academic performance. A primary explanation for this is that anxiety-related thoughts occupy working memory resources during testing that cannot be used for test-related processes (such as information retrieval and problem-solving). The present intervention study investigated whether physical activity could decrease anxiety levels and improve maths test performance in sixth-grade children. (2) Methods Sixty-eight children of 11-12 years from two primary schools in New South Wales, Australia were categorised as low or high anxious from their scores on a trait-anxiety questionnaire. After this assessment, they were randomly assigned to the activity break condition, in which they had to do several physical activities of moderate intensity (i.e., star jumps) for 10 min, or the control condition, in which they played a vocabulary game for 10 min. The outcome measures were children's anxiety levels at the beginning, during, and at the end of the test, invested mental effort, perceived task difficulty and maths test performance. (3) Results Results showed that regardless of the condition, low anxious students performed better on the maths test than high anxious children. No differences were found for any of the variables between the activity break condition and the control condition. (4) Conclusions Although test anxiety was not reduced as expected, this study showed that short physical activity breaks can be used before examinations without impeding academic performance.We implemented a mobile phone application of the pentagon drawing test (PDT), called mPDT, with a novel, automatic, and qualitative scoring method for the application based on U-Net (a convolutional network for biomedical image segmentation) coupled with mobile sensor data obtained with the mPDT. For the scoring protocol, the U-Net was trained with 199 PDT hand-drawn images of 512ⅹ512 resolution obtained via the mPDT in order to generate a trained model, Deep5, for segmenting a drawn right or left pentagon. The U-Net was also trained with 199 images of 512ⅹ512 resolution to attain the trained model, DeepLock, for segmenting an interlocking figure. Here, the epochs were iterated until the accuracy was greater than 98% and saturated. The mobile senor data primarily consisted of x and y coordinates, timestamps, and touch-events of all the samples with a 20 ms sampling period. The velocities were then calculated using the primary sensor data. With Deep5, DeepLock, and the sensor data, four parameters were extracted. These included the number of angles (0-4 points), distance/intersection between the two drawn figures (0-4 points), closure/opening of the drawn figure contours (0-2 points), and tremors detected (0-1 points). The parameters gave a scaling of 11 points in total. The performance evaluation for the mPDT included 230 images from subjects and their associated sensor data. The results of the performance test indicated, respectively, a sensitivity, specificity, accuracy, and precision of 97.53%, 92.62%, 94.35%, and 87.78% for the number of angles parameter; 93.10%, 97.90%, 96.09%, and 96.43% for the distance/intersection parameter; 94.03%, 90.63%, 92.61%, and 93.33% for the closure/opening parameter; and 100.00%, 100.00%, 100.00%, and 100.00% for the detected tremor parameter. These results suggest that the mPDT is very robust in differentiating dementia disease subtypes and is able to contribute to clinical practice and field studies.Plant growth-promoting rhizobacterial strain S58 was isolated from the tobacco rhizosphere. It showed strong antagonism against a battery of plant pathogenic fungi and bacteria, and controlled wheat sharp eyespot and tobacco wildfire diseases efficiently. Further tests showed that strain S58 solubilized organic phosphate and produced siderophore, protease, ammonia, and indole-3-acetic acid. In Arabidopsis thaliana, it promoted plant growth and changed root system architecture by restricting the growth of primary roots and increasing lateral root numbers. We relied on morphological, biochemical, physiological characteristics, and molecular phylogenic analysis to identify strain S58 as Pseudomonas mediterranea. The complete genome of strain S58 has a single circular chromosome of 6,150,838 bp with a 61.06% G+C content. The bacterial genome contained 5,312 predicted genes with an average length of 992.90 bp. A genome analysis suggested that P. mediterranea S58 was a rich cyclic lipopeptide (CLP)-producing strain that possessed seven non-ribosomal peptide gene clusters for CLP synthesis. Leaf inoculation of the bacterial culture and supernatants triggered cell death-like immunity in tobacco. Quantitative real-time PCR assays showed that the strain S58 induced the expression of pattern-triggered immunity and cell death marker genes, but not jasmonic acid marker genes. The results suggested that P. mediterranea S58 is a novel, versatile plant growth-promoting agent with multiple beneficial traits for plants.
