Background The results of studies on the relationship between secondhand smoking and neurological disease remain controversial. We conducted a meta-analysis to explore the association between secondhand smoking and risk of neurological disease. Methods Literature search was performed in PubMed, Embase and Web of Science through December 2019. We included cohort studies which examined the association between secondhand smoking and risk of neurological disease. According to the type of neurological disease, summary relative risks (RRs) with 95% confidence intervals (CIs) of stroke, cognitive impairment and Parkinson disease (PD) for secondhand smoking exposure were calculated. Results A total of 14 unique articles (n=697,185 participants) were eventually included in the analysis. When all studies were pooled, the RR of stroke for secondhand smoking exposure was 1.20 (95% CI 1.04, 1.38). When studies included only non-smokers, the pooled RR of stroke was 1.20 (95% CI 1.05, 1.37). Summary RRs of cognitive impairment and PD for secondhand smoking exposure were 1.43 (95% CI 1.02, 2.00) and 0.83 (95% CI 0.72, 0.95), respectively. Summary RRs did not change significantly when excluding one study at a time. Conclusions Secondhand smoking was found to be positively associated with risks of stroke and cognitive impairment, while inversely associated with risk of PD. Overall, our finding is a reminder of the need to step up smoking bans to prevent health damage, and also suggests that more researches on biological mechanisms whereby secondhand smoking affect PD may be beneficial to PD prevention and treatment. Objectives Dibenzyl trisulfide (DTS) has been reported to have cytotoxic and anti-inflammatory effects. It also affects erythrocyte deformability. We investigated the effects of DTS on the p50 of the oxygen haemoglobin dissociation curve. Methods Blood samples from 10 healthy male volunteers with normal haemoglobin AA were exposed to 50, 100, 200 and 400 ng/mL, respectively, of DTS. A hemox-analyzer was used to obtain the p50 values. Results The mean p50 value for the control samples was 25.89 ± 2.18 mm Hg. The values for the samples exposed to 50, 100, 200 and 400 ng/mL were 23.53 ± 1.81 mm Hg, 22.62 ± 1.61 mm Hg, 21.88 ± 1.67 mm Hg and 21.68 ± 1.88 mm Hg, respectively. Conclusions DTS caused a significant (p less then 0.001) reduction in p50 values indicating a shift of the oxygen- haemoglobin dissociation curve to the left in all the samples compared with control, suggesting that the administration of DTS could result in decrease in oxygen supply to tissues. Background breakfast elimination as well as consumption of low-value snacks is ever increasing among adolescents. This study sought to explain the dimensions of social support for breakfast and healthy snacks among students. Methods A qualitative research was conducted in Isfahan, Tehran, and Khorramabad, Iran high schools in 2017-18. Data were obtained from five focus group discussions and 35 in-depth interviews as well as semi-structured interviews with students of both sex, parents and school authorities. The data simultaneously analyzed using conventional content analysis in three stages including preparation, organization, and reporting. Prolonged engagement, maximum variation of sampling and member check were the enrichment factors of the research. Results Three main categories emerged. First, family supports with sub- categories of family in the school programs as well as mother-sponsored support and family life patterns. Second, school supports with sub- categories of instrumental and informational support. And third, support of other community organizations with sub- categories of intra-department coordination and mass media. Conclusion The concepts emerging in the present study develop multilevel ecological strategies to promote nutritional health including family, school, and community organizations such as school renovations, municipalities, police, education, and mass media to promote healthy breakfast and snack behavior are applicable for students.COVID-19 is the most recently discovered coronavirus infectious disease and leads to pandemic all over the world. The clinical continuum of COVID-19 varies from mild illness with non-specific signs and symptoms of acute respiratory disease to extreme respiratory pneumonia and septic shock. check details It can transmit from animal to human in the form of touch, through the air, water, utensils, fomite and feco-oral route blood. The pathogenesis and clinical features of COVID-19 be the same as the clinical manifestation associated epidemic Fever. In Unani medicine, various herbal drugs are described under the caption of epidemic disease. Great Unani scholar also Avicenna (980-1037 AD) recommended that during epidemic condition movement should be restricted, self-isolation, fumigation around the habitant with perfumed herbs (Ood, Kafoor, Sumbuluttib, Saad Kofi, Loban, etc.), and use of appropriate antidotes (Tiryaqe Wabai) and vinegar (Sirka) as prophylaxis. Herbal approach is based on single (Unnab-Ziziphus jujuba, Sapistan-Cordia myxa, Bahidana-Cydonia oblonga, Khatmi-Althea officinalis, Khubazi-Malva sylvestris, Zafran-Crocus sativus, Sibr-Aloe barbedensis, Murmuki-Commiphora myrrha, Darchini-Cinnamomum zeylanicum, Qaranfal-Syzygium aromaticum, Rihan-Oscimum sanctum, Habtus Sauda-Nigella sativa, Aslus Sus-Glycyrrhiza glabra, Maghze Amaltas-Cassia fistula and Adusa-Adhatoda vasica) and compound drugs (Habbe Bukhar, Sharbat Khaksi, Sharbat Zanjabeel, Naqu Nazla, Majoon Chobchini, Jawrish Jalinus and Khamira Marvareed) most of them are claimed for anti-viral, anti-pyretic, blood purifier, cardioprotective and expectorant activities. Traditionally most of the herbal practitioners are using it.
Point-of-care (POC) analyzers are playing an increasingly important role in diabetes management but it is essential that we know the performance of these analyzers in order to make appropriate clinical decisions. Whilst there is a growing body of evidence around the more well-known analyzers, there are many 'new kids on the block' with new features, such as displaying the presence of potential Hb-variants, which do not yet have a proven track record.
The study is a comprehensive analytical and usability study of six POC analyzers for HbA1c using Clinical and Laboratory Standards Institute (CLSI) protocols, international quality targets and certified International Federation of Clinical Chemistry and Laboratory Medicine (IFCC) and National Glycohemoglobin Standardization Program (NGSP) Secondary Reference Measurement Procedures (SRMP). The study includes precision (EP-5 and EP-15), trueness (EP-9), linearity (EP-6), sample commutability (fresh, frozen and lyophilized), interference of Hb-variants (fresh and frozen samples).
