prausnitzii (n = 3/5) and Prevotella (n = 5/7) were associated with adiposity. A lack of consensus exists for gut microbial composition associations with adiposity. A healthy gut microbiota is associated with a diet rich in fruits and vegetables with moderate consumption of animal fat and protein. Future research should use more robust sequencing technologies to identify all bacterial taxa associated with adiposity and evaluate how diet effects these adiposity-associated microbes. The search for safe and effective ferroptosis-inhibitors has become an important topic. Geraniin, an ellagitannin bearing hexahydroxydiphenoyl (HHDP) and dehydrohexahydroxydiphenoyl (DHHDP) groups, was observed to inhibit erastin-induced ferroptosis in bone marrow-derived mesenchymal stem cells (bmMSCs). To determine the mechanism, geraniin was further analyzed using UV-vis spectra and several colorimetric assays, where its IC50 values were always much lower than that of the Trolox positive control. When interacted with several free radicals, geraniin gave no radical adduct formation (RAF) peak in the ultra-performance liquid chromatography coupled with electrospray ionization quadrupole time-of-flight tandem mass spectrometry. In conclusion, geraniin exhibits ferroptosis-inhibitory potential towards erastin-treated bmMSCs; such potential may mainly stem from its strong lipid peroxidation (LPO)-inhibition, Fe2+ -chelating, and antioxidant actions. Geraniin gives neither dimer nor radical adduct, owing to the bulky HHDP (or DHHDP) group; thus, it is considered as a safe and effective ferroptosis-inhibitor.
Sex differences are well documented in schizophrenia, but have been much less studied in at-risk mental state (ARMS) for psychosis. We aimed to examine sex differences in symptomatology, cognition, social and role functioning in individuals with ARMS, with specific focus on clarifying relationships between sex, negative symptoms and functioning.

One hundred and seventy-seven Chinese participants aged 15-40 years with ARMS were recruited from a specialized early intervention service in Hong Kong. ARMS status was verified by Comprehensive Assessment of At-Risk Mental State. Assessments encompassing symptom profiles, a brief battery of cognitive tests and social and role functioning were conducted. Brief Negative Symptom Scale was adapted to measure negative symptoms at the level of five core domains.

Males with ARMS exhibited significantly poorer social functioning and more severe asociality of negative symptoms than female counterparts. Mediation analysis revealed that sex difference in social functioninoning underscore the importance in investigating negative symptoms at a separable domain-level. Further research is required to identify sex-specific predictors of longitudinal outcomes in at-risk populations.Four biradical-Ln complexes with different transition metal ions, namely [LnM(hfac)5 (NITPh-PyPzbis)] (MII =MnII and LnIII =Gd 1, Dy 2; MII =NiII and LnIII =Tb 3, Dy 4), were prepared by the reaction of Ln(hfac)3  ⋅ 2H2 O, Mn(hfac)2  ⋅ 2H2 O or Ni(hfac)2  ⋅ 2H2 O with NITPh-PyPzbis biradical (hfac=hexafluoroacetylacetonate, NITPh-PyPzbis=5-(3-(2-pyridinyl)-1H-pyrazol-1-yl)-1,3-bis(1'-oxyl-3'-oxido- 4',4',5',5'-tetramethyl-4,5-hydro-1H-imidazol-2-yl)benzene). In complexes 1-4, the NITPh-PyPzbis biradical chelates one LnIII ion by means of its aminoxyl moieties and the transition metal ion is introduced through the two N donors from the pyridyl pyrazolyl moiety. Magnetic investigations indicate that complex 4 displays visible maxima in frequency/temperature-dependent χ'' signals with two-step relaxation processes, but complex 2 exhibits no slow magnetization relaxation. The comparison of structure parameters of both Dy complexes indicates that the symmetries of coordination spheres of two Dy ions are D2d for 2 and C2v for 4, which thus probably results in different magnetic relaxation behaviors. This work provides new insight for improving properties of Ln-biradical based SMMs.
Serum eye drops (SEDs) are used to treat a variety of ocular surface defects. selleck products Serum eye drops (SEDs) are normally produced from the patient's blood. However, not all patients can donate sufficient or suitable blood, and logistics can be challenging. Allogeneic blood from voluntary blood donors does not have these disadvantages. Our aim was to evaluate whether autologous and allogeneic SEDs have comparable efficacy and tolerability.

In a prospective, double-blind crossover trial, patients with severe dry eyes were randomized to first receive autologous SEDs for one month, followed by one-month washout, before receiving allogeneic SEDs for 1 month; or receive the SED preparations in reverse order. The Ocular Surface Disease Index (OSDI) was the primary endpoint, and various secondary endpoints were determined. A linear mixed model with random intercept for each patient was applied per treatment group to compare the pre- and postoutcome measurements.

Nineteen patients were enrolled, of whom 15 completed the trial. When autologous SEDs were used, the mean ± SD OSDI improved from 62 ± 19 to 57 ± 18. For allogeneic SEDs, the OSDI changed from 59 ± 20 to 56 ± 23. The estimated mean difference (95% confidence interval) was -4.2 (-9.5 to 1.2) for autologous and -4.5 (-9.8 to 0.9) for allogeneic SEDs (both, not significant). Adverse events were mild and resolved completely.

Autologous and allogeneic SEDs have comparable efficacy and tolerability for use in patients with severe dry eyes. Allogeneic SEDs are therefore an attractive alternative for patients who need SEDs but are clinically or logistically unable to donate blood.

Biphasic hybridization, mainly involving P2/O3 and P2/P3 biphases, is typically used to boost their electrochemical performances. Herein, a P3/O3 intergrown layered oxide (Na2/3 Ni1/3 Mn1/3 Ti1/3 O2 ) as high-rate and long-life cathode for NIBs via tuning the amounts of Ti substitution in Na2/3 Ni1/3 Mn2/3- x Tix O2 (x = 0, 1/6, 1/3, 2/3) is demonstrated. The X-ray diffraction (XRD) Rietveld refinement and aberration-corrected scanning transmission electron microscopy show the co-existence of P3 and O3 phases, and density functional theory calculation corroborates the appearance of the anomalous O3 phase at the Ti substitution amount of 1/3. The P3/O3 biphasic cathode delivers an unexpected rate capability (≈88.7% of the initial capacity at a high rate of 5 C) and cycling stability (≈68.7% capacity retention after 2000 cycles at 1 C), superior to those of the sing phases P3-Na2/3 Ni1/3 Mn2/3 O2 , P3-Na2/3 Ni1/3 Mn1/2 Ti1/6 O2 , and O3-Na2/3 Ni1/3 Ti2/3 O2 .
