Effect of water accommodated fractions (WAF) of #180 fuel oil on fixed carbon and nitrogen in microalgae was studied by stable isotopes. Platymonas helgolandica, Heterosigma akashiwo and Nitzschia closterium were exposed to five WAF concentrations for 96 h. The δ13C value of microalgae was significantly lower than that of the control group, indicated that carbon was limited in the WAF concentrations. The δ13C value of microalgae appeared peak valley at 48 h in control group, corresponding to the enhanced capacity in carbon fixation during microalgae photosynthesis. The physiological acclimation capacity of microalgae was revealed by the occurrence time when the δ13C value was in peak valley, and thus the physiological acclimation capacity of microalgae decreased in the order of Nitzschia closterium > Heterosigma akashiwo > Platymonas helgolandica. Principal component analysis (PCA) were applied to the δ13C value in order to verify the "hormesis" phenomenon in microalgae. The δ13C value could discriminate between stimulatory effects at low doses and inhibitory effects at high doses. In addition, the present study also investigated the effect of the nitrogen on microalgae growth. Because microalgae could still absorb the NO3-N and release of NO2-N and NH4-N in present study, the nitrogen cycle in microalgae was in the equilibrium status. The δ15N value in microalgae exhibited no obvious change with the increasing of WAF concentrations at the same time. However, due to the enrichment of nitrogen, the δ15N value first increased gradually with the time and finally was stable. Overall, the fractionation of carbon and nitrogen stable isotopes illustrated that the effect of carbon on the growth of microalgae was more prominent than nitrogen. Stable isotopes was used to investigate the influence of WAF on fixed carbon and nitrogen in microalgae growth, providing a fundamental theoretical guidance for risk assessment of marine ecological environment. Microbial immobilization is a novel and environmentally friendly technology that uses microbes to reduce metal availability in soil and accumulation of heavy metals in plants. We used urea agar plates to isolate urease-producing bacteria from the rhizosphere soil of pakchoi in Cd- and Pb-contaminated farmland and investigated their effects on Cd and Pb accumulation in pakchoi and the underlying mechanisms. The results showed that two urease-producing bacteria, Bacillus megaterium N3 and Serratia liquefaciens H12, were identified by screening. They had higher ability to produce urease (57.5 ms cm-1 min-1 OD600-1 and 76.4 ms cm-1 min-1 OD600-1, respectively). The two strains allowed for the immobilization of Cd and Pb by extracellular adsorption, bioprecipitation, and increasing the pH (from 6.94 to 7.05-7.09), NH4+ content (69.1%-127%), and NH4+/NO3- ratio (from 1.37 to 1.67-2.11), thereby reducing the DTPA-extractable Cd (35.3%-58.8%) and Pb (37.8%-62.2%) contents in the pakchoi rhizosphere soils and the Cd (76.5%-79.7%) and Pb (76.3%-83.5%) contents in the leaves (edible tissue) of pakchoi. The strains were highly resistant to heavy metal toxicity; produced IAA, siderophores and abscisic acid; and increased the NH4+/NO3- ratio, which might be related to the two strains protectiing pakchoi against the toxic effect of Cd and Pb and increasing pakchoi biomass. Microbiology inhibitor Thus, the results were supposed to strain resources and a theoretical basis for the remediation of Cd- and Pb-contaminated farmlands for the safe production of vegetables. Relational memory, or the ability to form contextual associations among items encountered closely in time, is impaired in schizophrenia. The ability to bind items into a relational memory is dependent on the hippocampus, a region that is abnormal in schizophrenia. However, the hippocampus is also involved in exploratory behavior, leaving open the question whether relational memory deficits in schizophrenia are due to failure of relational binding or diminished visual exploration of individual items during encoding. We studied visual exploration patterns during the encoding of face-scene pairs in 66 healthy control subjects and 69 early psychosis patients, to test the hypothesis that differences in visual exploration during the encoding phase can explain task accuracy differences between the two groups. Psychosis patients had lower explicit test accuracy and were less likely to transition from mouth to eyes during encoding. The visual exploration pattern differences between groups did not mediate the relationship between group and explicit test accuracy. We conclude that early psychosis patients have an abnormal pattern of binding items together during encoding that warrants further research. OBJECTIVES The primary objective of this study was to examine the association between the first assessed cervical dilatation in a labourward and the use of oxytocin augmentation during labour. Further analysis was performed by examining the actual stage of labour at the point oxytocin was first administered to those women. DESIGN Retrospective cohort study with the data collected from the medical records of the hospital. SETTING University Hospital Bern, Switzerland PARTICIPANTS 1933 term nulliparous and multiparous women with a singleton pregnancy giving birth during the period June 2013 and May 2017, representing Robson groups 1 and 3. MEASUREMENTS AND FINDINGS Descriptive statistics and multivariable logistic regression models were performed. It was found that for the entire process of labour, nulliparous and multiparous women (n = 1933) with a first cervical dilatation of 5 or more cm were less likely to be augmented with oxytocin (OR 0.64, 95% CI 0.46; 0.88 and OR 0.56, 95% CI 0.38; 0.82, respectively) cment labour, particularly, during the first stage of labour. Epidural analgesia is a main predictor for oxytocin augmentation in nulliparous and multiparous women. IMPLICATIONS FOR PRACTICE Pregnant women warrant more appropriate support during early labour, avoiding early maternal exhaustion and excessive obstetrical interventions. INTRODUCTION Using immune-checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) to manage cancer is associated with various immune-related adverse events. Central and/or peripheral neurological disorders are rare and potentially serious. We analyzed the characteristics of non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC) patients who developed immune-related encephalitis under anti-programmed-death protein-1 or its ligand (PD-1/PD-L1). METHODS Clinical, biological and radiological characteristics of ICI-treated NSCLC patients with immune-related encephalitis, from 6 centers, were evaluated retrospectively. RESULTS The 6 centers included 9 patients all men, all smokers, median (range) age 67 (48-77) years, 78% adenocarcinomas, first- or second-line ICI for 5 and 4 patients, respectively. Two patients had non-active cerebral metastases at ICI onset. A median of 5 (1-22) ICI infusions preceded neurological symptoms, the most frequent being confusion (78%), fever (45%) and cerebellar ataxia (33%). CSF analyses revealed a median white blood cell count of 22/mm3 (1-210/mm3), with hyperlymphocytosis in 8 patients and high protein levels in all.
