The Graduation Project course in Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering has been one of the most exciting and rewarding experiences of our studies. It’s a course that truly allows us to bring everything we’ve learned over the years into one big, meaningful project.
What makes this course so special is that it’s not just about theory anymore—it’s about taking real-world parameters, like a ship’s deadweight tonnage (DWT) and speed, and turning them into a complete design. Starting from scratch and working through every detail, from initial sketches to the final drawings, gives us a real sense of what it’s like to work as engineers.
Throughout the process, we get to dive into so many aspects of ship design. Whether it’s working on the general arrangement plan, analyzing stability and strength, or thinking about the hydrodynamic performance, every step feels like solving a fascinating puzzle. And while it’s definitely challenging, it’s also incredibly satisfying to see everything come together piece by piece.
One of the things I love most about this course is how much it lets us think outside the box. While we have to stick to technical standards and guidelines, there’s still room for creativity and innovation. It’s exciting to test out ideas, learn from mistakes, and improve our designs—it feels like we’re truly growing into the role of engineers.
Another great part of the experience is how much we learn about teamwork and communication. Whether we’re presenting our progress or discussing solutions with classmates and professors, we’re constantly practicing skills that will be essential in the workplace. Plus, it’s fun to see how different people approach the same problem—there’s always something to learn from each other.
Overall, this course has been an unforgettable part of our journey. It’s challenging, yes, but it’s also rewarding and even fun. It’s the kind of experience that reminds us why we chose this field in the first place. By the end of it, we don’t just feel like students anymore—we feel like we’re ready to take our first steps as professionals.
