A literature search and review of pharmacy curricula were conducted, and the findings were used to develop a best-worst choice survey instrument regarding inclusion of pharmacy practice skills in the pharmacy curriculum. The survey was sent to registered pharmacists and intern pharmacists in New Zealand. Participants were asked to prioritize 16 skills in terms of their importance and relevance to pharmacy practice.Results. Of the 3836 pharmacists invited to participate in the survey, 388 completed the questionnaire. Comprehensive chronic disease management, specialty medications, and medicines use review were the top three prioritized skills. Injections, independent prescribing, and specialty compounding were the skills ranked as having the lowest priority. The pharmacists' gender, age, practice setting, and ethnicity all influenced their skill prioritization. The pharmacists emphasized skills required in their current practice but deemphasized some skills that were emerging professional responsibilities.Conclusion. Explaining the purpose of evaluations and how they will be used, how to correctly complete evaluations, and the potential responsiveness of and receptivity of professors, as well as other factors, impact how students perceive and complete their evaluations. It is worthwhile to gather students' perspectives on evaluations as these assessments hold the potential to drive curricular change and faculty promotion. Considering students perspectives can help colleges and schools design and administer more effective evaluations, increasing the utility of these assessments.Variations in the psychosocial aspects of the provision of health care treatments can measurably affect the health outcomes resulting from the use of such treatments. These benefits (or harms) in outcomes result from processes beyond the specific physiological mechanisms induced by the treatments. Such phenomena can be most clearly seen when physiological improvements are induced by administering inert placebo medications in the same manner as if they were actual medications. By logic, these physiological improvements should also occur during the provision of actual medications and potentiate the latter's effectiveness. To examine the effects of student demographics, prior academic performance, course engagement, and time management on pharmacy students' performance on course examinations and objective structured clinical examinations (OSCEs).Methods. Study participants were one cohort of pharmacy students enrolled in a five-year combined Bachelor and Master of Pharmacy degree program at one institution. Variables included student demographics, baseline factors (language assessment and situational judgement test scores), prior academic performance (high school admission rank), course engagement, and student time management of pre-class online activities. Data were collected from course, learning management system, and institutional databases. Data were analyzed for univariate, bivariate, and multivariate associations (four linear regression models) between explanatory factors and outcome variables.Results. Three years of data on 159 pharmacy students were obtained and entered in the dataset. Significant positive predictors of OSCE communication performance included domestic (ie, Australian) student designation, higher baseline written English proficiency, and pre-class online activity completion. Positive predictors of OSCE problem-solving included workshop attendance and low empathy as measured by a baseline situational judgment test (SJT). Positive predictors of performance on year 2 end-of-course examinations included the Australian Tertiary Academic Rank, completing pre-class online activities prior to lectures, and high integrity as measured by an SJT.Conclusion. Several explanatory factors predicted pharmacy students' examination and OSCE performance in the regression models. Future research should continue to study additional contexts, explanatory factors, and outcome variables.
