Count responses with grouping and right censoring have long been used in surveys to study a variety of behaviors, status, and attitudes. Yet grouping or right-censoring decisions of count responses still rely on arbitrary choices made by researchers. We develop a new method for evaluating grouping and right-censoring decisions of count responses from a (semisupervised) machine-learning perspective. This article uses Poisson multinomial mixture models to conceptualize the data-generating process of count responses with grouping and right censoring and demonstrates the link between grouping-scheme choices and asymptotic distributions of the Poisson mixture. To search for the optimal grouping scheme maximizing objective functions of the Fisher information (matrix), an innovative three-step M algorithm is then proposed to process infinitely many grouping schemes based on Bayesian A-, D-, and E-optimalities. A new R package is developed to implement this algorithm and evaluate grouping schemes of count responses. Results show that an optimal grouping scheme not only leads to a more efficient sampling design but also outperforms a nonoptimal one even if the latter has more groups.Controlling the coronavirus pandemic is triggering a cross-border strategy by which national governments attempt to control the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic. A response based on sharing facts about millions of private movements and a call to study information behavior during the global health crisis has been advised worldwide. The present study aims to identify the technologies to control the COVID-19 and future pandemics with massive data collection from users' mobile devices. This research undertakes a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) of the studies about the currently available methods, strategies, and actions to collect and analyze data from users' mobile devices. In a total of 76 relevant studies, 13 technologies that are classified based on the following aspect of data and data management have been identified (1) security; (2) destruction; (3) voluntary access; (4) time span; and (5) storage. In addition, in order to understand how these technologies can affect user privacy, 25 data points that these technologies could have access to if installed through mobile applications have been detected. The paper concludes with a discussion of important theoretical and practical implications of preserving user privacy and curbing COVID-19 infections in the global public health emergency situation.Precarious work, which has become more prevalent in the United States in recent decades, is disproportionately experienced by workers of lower socioeconomic classes, and research suggests that the erosion of worker power has contributed to this class polarization in precarity. One dimension of precarious work of growing interest to scholars and policymakers is instability faced by workers in the amount and regularity of their work hours. However, we know little about the magnitude of month-to-month or week-to-week (intra-year) volatility in hours worked, the extent of class-based polarization in this measure of job quality, and whether worker power moderates this polarization. In this paper, we make novel use of the panel nature of the nationally-representative Current Population Survey (CPS) to estimate intra-year volatility in the actual hours respondents report working in the previous week across four consecutive survey months. Using this new measure, we then show that, net of demographic characteristics and controls for occupation and industry, low-wage workers experience disproportionately greater work hour volatility. Finally, we find evidence that reductions in marketplace bargaining power-as measured by higher state-level unemployment rates-increase wage- and education-based polarization in work hour volatility, while increases in associational power-as measured by union coverage-reduce wage-based polarization in work hour volatility. The effect of treatment on binary disease outcome can differ across subgroups characterized by other covariates. Testing for the existence of subgroups that are associated with heterogeneous treatment effects can provide valuable insight regarding the optimal treatment recommendation in practice. Our research in this paper is motivated by the question of whether host genetics could modify a vaccine's effect on HIV acquisition risk. To answer this question, we used data from an HIV vaccine trial with a two-phase sampling design and developed a general threshold-based model framework to test for the existence of subgroups associated with the heterogeneity in disease risks, allowing for subgroups based on multivariate covariates. We developed a testing procedure based on maximum of likelihood-ratio statistics over change planes and demonstrated its advantage over alternative methods. We further developed the testing procedure to account for bias sampling of expensive (i.e. resource-intensive to measure) covariates through the incorporation of inverse probability weighting techniques. We used the proposed method to analyze the motivating HIV vaccine trial data. Tigecycline Our proposed testing procedure also has broad applications in epidemiological studies for assessing heterogeneity in disease risk with respect to univariate or multivariate predictors. This is a retrospective chart review of 161 MICU patients who underwent tracheotomy by the Otolaryngology service at the University of Missouri Hospital from April 2015 through March 2018. The objectives of this study were to describe long term outcomes of patients who underwent tracheotomy, and identify any clinical variables associated with these outcomes. One-year mortality was 37% (50/161), and on multivariate analysis only age (p=0.001) was associated with mortality. The SARS-CoV-2 outbreak has led to an increase in sedentary lifestyles compounded with the loss of access to public exercise facilities and limited fresh grocery supply. With the multitude of possible diet options available, how do you choose one that works with your lifestyle, financial means, and ultimately proves to be most effective? In this article, we review the medical benefits and challenges of several different types of fasting diets that can be adopted by the general public.
