Studying the microstructure of shale and the gas transport law is of great significance for the development of shale gas. This paper uses the field emission scanning electron microscope to observe shale samples of the BC shale gas reservoirs in southern China. It is found that there are three types of storage spaces on the micro-nano-scale of shale samples. The storage space can be distributed either in pure organic matter or pure inorganic matter or in both organic matter and inorganic matter. They are called organic storage space, inorganic storage space, and mixed storage space of organic matter and inorganic matter, respectively. According to these types of storage spaces, an ideal conceptual model that reflects various types of storage spaces has been researched and established on the micro-nano-scale. At the same time, the transport mechanisms of slip, diffusion, adsorption, and coupling have been considered, and shale mixed storage space hasitive to the change in water film thickness.In this study, we report a convenient analytical method for a full-range quantification of the C-reactive protein (CRP), a blood biomarker of infection and cardiovascular events. We determine CRP over the entire diagnostically relevant concentration range in undiluted human blood serum in a single test, using a tandem giant magnetoresistance (GMR) sensor. The tandem principle combines a sandwich assay and a competitive assay, which allows for the discrimination of the concentration values resulting from the multivalued dose-response curve ("Hook" effect), which characterizes the one-step sandwich assay at high CRP concentrations. The sensor covers a linear detection range for CRP concentration from 3 ng/mL to 350 μg/mL, the detection limit (s/n = 3) is 1 ng/mL. The prominent features of the chip-based method are its expanded dynamic range and low sample volume (50 μL), and the need for a short measurement time of 15 min. These figures of merit, in addition to the low detection limit equal to the established assay instrumentation, make it a viable candidate for use in point-of-care diagnostics.Fsa2 and Phm7 are a unique pair of pericyclases catalyzing [4 + 2] cycloaddition reactions with reverse stereoselectivities in the biosynthesis of equisetin and phomasetin, both of which are potent HIV-1 integrase inhibitors. We here solve the crystal structures of Fsa2 and Phm7, both of which possess unusual "two-β barrel" folds. Different residues are evident between the active sites of Fsa2 and Phm7, and modeling experiments provide key structural information determining the reverse stereoselectivities. These results provide a better understanding of how natural pericyclases control the catalytic stereoselectivities and benefit the protein engineering in future.In the prevailing phenomenon of peptide fibrillization, β-strand conformation has long been believed to be an important structural basis for peptide assembly. According to a widely accepted theory, in most peptide fibrillization processes, peptide monomers need to intrinsically take or transform to β-strand conformation before they can undergo ordered packing to form nanofibers. In this study, we reported our findings on an alternative peptide fibrillization pathway starting from a disordered secondary structure, which could then transform to β-strand after fibrillization. By using circular dichroism, thioflavin-T binding test, and transmission electron microscopy, we studied the secondary structure and assembly behavior of Ac-RADARADARADARADA-NH2 (RADA16-I) in a low concentration range. The effects of peptide concentration, solvent polarity, pH, and temperature were investigated in detail. Our results showed that at very low concentrations, even though the peptide was in a disordered secondary structure, it could still form nanofibers through intermolecular assembly, and under higher peptide concentrations, the transformation from the disordered structure to β-strand could happen with the growth of nanofibers. Our results indicated that even without ordered β-strand conformation, driving forces such as hydrophobic interaction and electrostatic interaction could still play a determinative role in the self-assembly of peptides. At least in some cases, the formation of β-strand might be the consequence rather than the cause of peptide fibrillization.Past investigations involving fingerprints have revolved heavily around the image of the fingerprint-including the minutiae, scarring, and other distinguishing features-to visually find a match to its originator. Recently, it has been proven that the biochemical composition can be used to determine originator attributes, such as sex, via chemical and enzymatic cascades. Using ultraviolet-visible (UV-vis) spectroscopy, aged fingerprints were evaluated over the course of 12 weeks via three chemical assays previously used for fingerprint analysis-the ninhydrin assay, the Bradford assay, and the Sakaguchi assay. As fingerprints age, the conditions they are exposed to cause the biochemical composition to decompose. As this occurs, there is less available to be detected by analytical means. This results in a less intense color production and, thus, a lower measured absorbance. The results displayed here afforded the ability to conclude that all three goals set forth for this research were accomplished-a female fingerprint can be differentiated from a male fingerprint for at least 12 weeks, UV-vis data collected from aged fingerprints can be correlated to a TSD range but not necessarily a specific time point, and the decomposition of at least a single amino acid can afford the ability to estimate the TSD of the fingerprint.
