nigresens can reduce the growth of P. aeruginosa and dampen the inflammatory response in airway epithelial cells. We specifically illustrate that the presence of the investigated Prevotella spp. reduces Toll-like-receptor (TLR)-4, MAPK, NF-κB(p65) signalling and cytokine release (Interleukin (IL)-6, IL-8) in mixed infections.

Our work, for the first time, strongly indicates a relationship between P. aeruginosa and anaerobic Prevotella spp.. The observed modified NF-κB and MAPK signalling indicates some mechanisms underlying this interaction that could offer a novel therapeutic approach to combat chronic P. aeruginosa infection in people with CF.

The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic has changed almost every aspect of our lives. BI2493 Young adults are vulnerable to pandemic-related adverse mental health outcomes, but little is known about the impact on adolescents. We examined factors associated with perceived changes in mood and anxiety among male youth in urban and Appalachian Ohio.

In June 2020, participants in an ongoing male youth cohort study were invited to participate in an online survey that included questions about changes in mood, anxiety, closeness to friends and family, and the major impacts of the pandemic. Weighted log-binomial regression models were used to assess the risk of worsened mood and increased anxiety. Chi-square tests were used to examine the association between perceived changes in mood and anxiety and perceived changes in closeness to friends and family and open-ended responses to a question about COVID-19's impact on participants.

Perceived worsened mood and increased anxiety during the pandemic were associated with higher household socioeconomic status, older age, feeling less close to friends and family, and reporting that COVID-19 negatively affected mental health. A perceived increase in anxiety was also associated with a history of symptoms of depression or anxiety.

Specific subgroups of male youth may be at heightened risk of worsening mental health during the COVID-19 pandemic. Interventions should target vulnerable adolescents and seek to increase closeness to social contacts. Such efforts could involve novel programs that allow youth to stay connected to friends, which might mitigate the negative impact on mental health.

Colleges and universities across the United States are developing and implementing data-driven prevention and containment measures against severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) infection. Identifying risk factors for SARS-CoV-2 seropositivity could help to direct these efforts. This study aimed to estimate the associations between demographic factors and social behaviors and SARS-CoV-2 seropositivity and self-reported positive SARS-CoV-2 diagnostic test.

In September 2020, we randomly sampled Indiana University Bloomington undergraduate students. Participants completed a cross-sectional online survey about demographics, SARS-CoV-2 testing history, relationship status, and risk behaviors. Additionally, during a subsequent appointment, participants were tested for SARS-CoV-2 antibodies using a fingerstick procedure and SARS-CoV-2 IgM/IgG rapid assay kit. We used unadjusted modified Poisson regression models to evaluate the associations between predictors of both SARS-CoV-2 seropositives on such campuses.
To understand the perception of family doctors, pulmonologists and allergists about the current approach to chronic cough and its impact on patients' quality of life.

Cross-sectional and anonymous survey disseminated through the scientific societies SEAIC, SEMERGEN, semFYC, SEMG and SEPAR. The participants were 620 family doctors, 92 pulmonologists and 62 allergists. A descriptive analysis of the answers was conducted. Response percentages, medians and interquartile intervals were presented. The differences in the percentages between specialties were evaluated with the chi-square.

Only half of the respondents chose a duration greater than 8 weeks as a criterion for diagnosing chronic cough, and less than half considered refractory/unexplained chronic cough a disease in itself. Family doctors perceived that chronic cough had less impact on patients than did pulmonologists or allergists. After a diagnosis of refractory/unexplained chronic cough, all 3specialties considered the most common approach to be to initiate treatment and to do the follow-up of the patient themselves. Most stated that they had no protocols for managing chronic cough, and more than 90% considered these to be necessary.

The management of patients with chronic cough by family doctors, pulmonologists or allergists seems to be heterogeneous. There is a need for protocols that standardise diagnosis, referral and treatment criteria to optimise patients' management and reduce the impact of chronic cough.

Our working group on vascular diseases of the Spanish Society of Primary Care Physicians (SEMERGEN) proposes a series of recommendations based on current scientific evidence for a multidisciplinary approach and follow-up in primary care.
