Optimism is a protective factor which could attenuate the detrimental effects of perceived stress on anxiety symptoms and potentially improve treatment outcomes.Background The modular British Columbia Asthma Prediction System (BCAPS) is designed to reduce information burden during wildfire smoke events by automatically gathering, integrating, generating, and visualizing data for public health users. The BCAPS framework comprises five flexible and geographically scalable modules (1) historic data on fine particulate matter (PM2.5) concentrations; (2) historic data on relevant health indicator counts; (3) PM2.5 forecasts for the upcoming days; (4) a health forecasting model that uses the relationship between (1) and (2) to predict the impacts of (3); and (5) a reporting mechanism. Methods The 2018 wildfire season was the most extreme in British Columbia history. Every morning BCAPS generated forecasts of salbutamol sulfate (e.g., Ventolin) inhaler dispensations for the upcoming days in 16 Health Service Delivery Areas (HSDAs) using random forest machine learning. These forecasts were compared with observations over a 63-day study period using different methods includin the PM2.5 forecasts, but they were robust to over- and underpredictions of PM2.5 exposure. Conclusions Daily reports from the BCAPS framework provided timely and reasonable insight into the population health impacts of predicted smoke exposures, though more work is necessary to improve the PM2.5 and health indicator forecasts.Objective This study presumed that a high or low body mass index (BMI) might increase the risk of infant mortality. Therefore, a meta-analysis was performed to systematically assess the association between maternal BMI and the risk of infant mortality. Methods The electronic databases, including Pubmed, Embase database, and Cochrane Library, were systemically searched by two investigators from inception to November 26th, 2020, with no language restriction. In parallel, a dose-response was assessed. Results Finally, 22 cohort studies involving 13,532,293 participants were included into this paper, which showed that compared with normal BMI, maternal overweight significantly increased the risks of infant mortality [risk ratio (RR), 1.16; 95% confidence interval (CI), 1.13-1.19], neonatal mortality (RR, 1.23; 95% CI, 1.08-1.39), early neonatal mortality (RR, 1.55; 95% CI, 1.26-1.92) and post-neonatal mortality (RR, 1.18; 95% CI, 1.07-1.29). Similarly, maternal obesity significantly increased the risk of infant mture.Objective The aim of this study was to assess general psychosocial adjustment to diabetes and perceived disease management among patients with type 1 diabetes (T1D) and their parents before and after patients' participation in a diabetes summer camp. Methods In this follow-up study, 20 children and adolescents with T1D (eight boys; mean age = 11.01 ± 0.94 years; mean diabetes duration = 3.02 ± 2.27) attending a southern Italian diabetic center, along with their parents, were assessed prior to and 3 months after the youths participated in a 1 week camp-based intervention involving didactic and interactive child-centered education and recreational activities. Patients and their parents completed measures assessing patients' quality of life and strategies employed by patients to cope with pain. Patients also completed measures evaluating their diabetes psychosocial adjustment, diabetes self-efficacy management, and illness perception; also, their parents completed measures of caregivers' perceived diabetes burdetheir parents. These findings suggest that healthcare providers rethink such camps as an experience for youths with T1D that actively involves parents and that includes both youth- and parent-focused psychological interventions.Objective To establish Z-score regression equation derived from age for testicular volume measured by ultrasonography in normal boys aged 0 to 18 years old. Method The length (L), width (W), and height (H) of 3,328 testicles from 1,664 Chinese boys were measured by ultrasonography. Lambert's formula L × W × H × 0.71 was used to calculate testicular volume. Z-score regression equation derived from age was established by regression analysis of predicted values of testicular volume and standard deviations. Result There was no significant difference between left and right testicular volumes. Testicular volume was positively correlated with age, and logarithmic transformation of testicular volume can show a fine curve fit with age. To establish Z-score regression equation derived from age, the predicted values of testicular volume used cubic regression equations, and the standard deviation used square regression equations. The Z-score regression equation derived from age was calculated by the formula z = [lg (L × W × H × 0.71) - (-0.3524-0.01759 × x+0.009417 × x2-0.0001840 × x3)]/(0.1059+0.01434 × x-0.0005324 × x2). Conclusion The current study provided a reference value for testicular volume of boys aged 0 to 18 years old. Z-score regression equation derived from age for testicular volume can be established. Z-score will be of great value for the testicular development assessment and disease diagnosis and follow-up.Objectives Innovative Cell Population Data (CPD) have been used as early biomarkers for diagnosing sepsis in adults. We assessed the usefulness of CPD in pediatric patients with sepsis/septic shock, in terms of early recognition and outcome prediction. We revised 54 patients (0-15 y) admitted to our Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) for sepsis/septic shock during a 4-year period. Twenty-eight patients were excluded, 26 septic patients were enrolled (G1). Forty children admitted for elective surgery served as controls (G2).
