To determine the diagnostic accuracy of mean elasticity index (Emean) on quantitative shear wave elastography (SWE) in detection of malignancy in small solid suspected malignant thyroid nodules on ultrasound, taking histopathology as the gold standard.

Analytical study.

Department of Radiology, Dow Medical College, Dow University of Health Sciences (DUHS) and Dr. Ruth K. M. Pfau Civil Hospital, Karachi from September 2017 to March 2018.

Adult patients of either gender with suspected malignant thyroid nodules (solid, ≤10 mm) were subjected to SWE examination. All patients underwent thyroid surgery later. Histopathological findings were used as the gold standard for determining sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value (PPV), negative predictive value (NPV) and accuracy, at a cut-off Emean of 66 kilo pascals (KPa). These values were further stratified for gender, age (below or above 40 years), single or multiple nodule(s), and known duration of nodules (more or less than 10 months).

The avern 10 months duration. Where available, SWE should be used to complement routine thyroid ultrasonography, which may be helpful to reduce unnecessary intervention. Key Words Mean elasticity index (Emean), Thyroid nodule, Malignancy, Shear wave elastography, Solid nodule.
To investigate the relationship between numerical values obtained using computed tomography (CT) in stone-related urinary obstruction and the duration of obstruction.

Cross-sectional study.

Department of Urology, Alanya Alaaddin Keykubat University, Turkey, from January 2018 to September 2019.

Eighty-three patients were investigated. Commencement of obstruction was defined as time of onset of pain. Cases with less than seven days elapsed between onset of obstruction; and CT were classified as acute obstruction; and those with durations of seven days or more as chronic obstruction. Bilateral renal parenchymal and renal fatty tissue densities were measured in three planes.

Acute obstruction was present in 53 patients and chronic obstruction in 30. Median renal parenchymal densities in the obstructive and non-obstructive kidneys were 33 and 37 Hounsfield unit (HU), respectively; and median perirenal densities were 99 and 108 HU, the differences being statistically significant (p <0.05). Median perirenal density were 96 HU in acute obstruction and 104.5 HU in chronic obstruction and the difference was statistically significant (p <0.05). No statistically significant difference was determined between renal parenchymal density in acute and chronic obstruction (p >0.05).

A low perirenal density on CT indicated prolonged duration of urinary obstruction. Key Words Computed tomography, Hounsfield unit, Kidney stone, Ureter, Ureteral stone.

Our approach is mathematically general in form for any detector exhibiting Poisson noise with a fixed data acquisition time window, at voltages varying through the experiment. We show that this accurately estimates the background observed in real experiments. The method requires, as a minimum, the z-coordinate and mass-to-charge-state data as input and can be applied retrospectively. Further improvements are obtained with additional information such as acquisition voltage. Using this method allows for improved estimation of variance in the background, and more robust quantification, with quantified count limits at parts-per-million concentrations. To demonstrate applications, we show a simple peak detection implementation, which quantitatively suppresses false positives arising from random noise sources. We additionally quantify the detectability of 121-Sb in a standardized-doped Si microtip as (1.5 × 10−5, 3.8 × 10−5) atomic fraction, α = 0.95. This technique is applicable to all modes of APT data acquisition and is highly general in nature, ultimately allowing for improvements in analyzing low ionic count species in datasets.Kalanchoe delagoensis is adapted to intense solar irradiation, drought, and heat, partially due to the presence of phenols, important photo-protective compounds and antioxidants. This study aimed to evaluate the distribution of flavonoids and phenolic acid derivatives throughout the erect-tubular leaves of K. delagoensis. Specimens grown under sunny conditions were used for histochemical and high-performance liquid chromatography coupled with diode array detection (liquid HPLC-DAD) analysis. The NP (2-aminoethyl diphenylborinate) test suggested the presence of phenolic acids throughout the leaf blade below the epidermis and in chloroplasts, mainly in the leaf base. find more Flavonoids were detected specifically in chloroplasts, on the adaxial side of the middle third and at the leaf apex, near the meristematic cells. There was a tendency of flavonoid accumulation from the middle third to the apex, especially surrounding the gem, while phenolic acids were observed mainly in the base. This can be explained by the more exposed leaf apex and to the presence of apical buds (high production and regulation sites of ROS). The HPLC-DAD analysis showed different classes of flavonoids and phenolic acid derivatives in the leaf extracts, agreeing with the NP test results. This is the first time that the substitution of phenolic acids by flavonoids from the leaf base to the apex has been described.
