Being female (odds ratio [OR] = 1.49, 95% confidence interval [CI] 1.05-2.09) and older (OR = 1.13, 95% CI 1.03-1.24), not doing paid work while studying (OR = 3.35, 95% CI = 1.63-6.84), studying health-related disciplines (β = -0.113, 95% CI = -0.085 to -2.747), having stronger positive attitudes towards homosexual persons of both genders (OR = 0.77, 95% CI = 0.64-0.94) and not using illicit drugs (β = 2.08, 95% CI = 1.03-4.20) were associated with stronger positive attitudes towards PLHIV. Social inclusion of PLHIV and individuals at high risk for acquiring HIV could help reduce the HIV-related stigma.Stable isotope compositions of ancient halite fluid inclusions have been recognized to be valuable tools for reconstructing past environments. Nevertheless, in order to better understand the genesis of halite deposits, it could be of great interest to combine both δ2 H and δ18 O measurements of the water trapped as inclusions in the defects of the mineral lattice. We developed a method combining off-axis integrated cavity output spectroscopy (OA-ICOS) connected on line with a modified elemental analyzer (EA-OA-ICOS) to perform those measurements. The first step was to test the method with synthetic halite crystals precipitated in the laboratory from isotopically calibrated waters. Water isotopic signatures have been measured with conventional techniques, equilibration for δ18 O and chromium reduction for δ2 H. Then, we modified and optimized a conventional EA to connect it online with an OA-ICOS instrument for H2 O measurements. The technique is first evaluated for calibrated free water samples. The technique is also evaluated for salt matrix effect, accuracy, and linearity for both isotopic signatures. Then, the technique is used to measure simultaneously δ2 H and δ18 O values of halite water inclusions precipitated from the evaporation experiments. Data generated with this new technique appeared to be comparable with those inferred from prior off-line technique studies. The advantages offered by the OA-ICOS technique are the simultaneous acquisition of both isotopic ratios and the substantial reduction of data acquisition time and sample aliquot size. Natural halite samples have been analyzed with this method. Natural halite samples as old as Precambrian have also been analyzed with this method.
The selection of quality indicators demonstrating the efficiency and relevance of nursing practice in patient outcomes in the intensive care unit remains a challenge.
The aim of this study was to develop a set of potential quality indicators to quantify nursing care provided to critically ill patients through a consensus method.
This was a three-phase study including a European survey of intensive care unit (ICU) nurses (phase one) followed by a two-phase face-to-face consensus meeting of experts from Cyprus.
Two distinct panels of experts were asked to rate each quality indicator using a 4-point Likert scale in phases one and two. The level of consensus was set at 60%. In phase three, scores of the content validity index for items and scales were considered for the final selection of quality indicators.
The phase one survey included 139 ICU nurses from 13 European countries, and phases two and three included seven ICU experts from Cyprus. "Consensus in" was achieved for 12 items at the end of phase two. find more of the quality indicators were significantly different by country (a) falls (P = .006), (b) accidental removal of nasogastric tube (P < .001), and (c) accidental removal of intravascular catheters (P < .001). Only falls was significantly correlated with higher academic qualifications of the participants (P = .002).
Fifteen items have been identified as potential indicators for adult ICU nursing quality. These need to be prospectively studied to determine the extent to which they can accurately capture nursing care quality in this setting.

Hardly any correlations between the carbohydrate chemical structures and the material properties are available due to the lack of standards and suitable analytic techniques. Therefore, designer carbohydrate materials remain highly unexplored, as compared to peptides and nucleic acids. A synthetic D-glucose disaccharide, DD, was chosen as a model to explore carbohydrate materials. Microcrystal electron diffraction (MicroED), optimized for oligosaccharides, revealed that DD assembled into highly crystalline left-handed helical fibers. The supramolecular architecture was correlated to the local crystal organization, allowing for the design of the enantiomeric right-handed fibers, based on the L-glucose disaccharide, LL, or flat lamellae, based on the racemic mixture. Tunable morphologies and mechanical properties suggest the potential of carbohydrate materials for nanotechnology applications.Naps have been shown to benefit visuospatial learning in early childhood. This benefit has been associated with sleep spindles during the nap. However, whether young children's naps and their accompanying physiology benefit other forms of declarative learning is unknown. Using a novel storybook task, we found performance in children (N = 22, mean age = 51.23 months) was better following a nap compared to performance following an equivalent interval spent awake. Moreover, performance remained better the following day if a nap followed learning. Change in post-nap performance was positively associated with the amount of time spent in slow wave sleep during the nap. This suggests that slow wave sleep in naps may support episodic memory consolidation in early childhood. #link# Taken in conjunction with prior work, these results suggest that multiple features of brain physiology during naps may contribute to declarative memory processing in early childhood.
