EDP-938, a novel nucleoprotein chemical regarding the respiratory system syncytial virus, shows powerful antiviral pursuits inside vitro along with a new non-human primate design.
Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) stands out as the major pandemic that we have experienced in the last century. As it affects every social structure, it brought the importance of intensive care support once again to the agenda of healthcare system after causing severe acute respiratory syndrome. The precautions to be taken against this virus, where our knowledge is extremely small, intensive care units take an indispensable place in pandemic planning. In this review, we aimed to emphasize the crucial points regarding intensive care management of COVID-19 patients, which we have written not only for intensivists but also for all healthcare professionals. However, no neuroimaging study has assessed Tetris in patients with existing posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) or explored how playing Tetris may affect brain structure. Alantolactone Methods We recruited patients with combat-related PTSD before psychotherapy and randomly assigned them to an experimental Tetris and therapy group (n = 20) or to a therapy-only control group (n = 20). In the control group, participants completed therapy as usual eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) psychotherapy. In the Tetris group, in addition to EMDR, participants also played 60 minutes of Tetris every day from onset to completion of therapy, approximately 6 weeks later. Participants completed structural MRI and psychological questionnaires before and after therapy, and we collected psychological questionnaire data at follow-up, approximately 6 months later. We hypothesized that the Tetris group would show increases in hippocampal volume and reductions in symptoms, both directly after completion of therapy and at follow-up. Results Following therapy, hippocampal volume increased in the Tetris group, but not the control group. As well, hippocampal increases were correlated with reductions in symptoms of PTSD, depression and anxiety between completion of therapy and follow-up in the Tetris group, but not the control group. Limitations Playing Tetris may act as a cognitive interference task and as a brain-training intervention, but it was not possible to distinguish between these 2 potential mechanisms. Conclusion Tetris may be useful as an adjunct therapeutic intervention for PTSD. Tetris-related increases in hippocampal volume may ensure that therapeutic gains are maintained after completion of therapy. © 2020 Joule Inc. or its licensors.OBJECTIVE The aim of the present case series was to describe our experience with the use of PRP on patients with refractory thin endometria. METHODS This retrospective analysis included 24 IVF cycles in which patients presenting different infertility factors received intrauterine PRP infusion prior to embryo transfer. Outcomes of interest were clinical and ongoing pregnancies, miscarriages, and births. RESULTS 54% of the cycles in which PRP was employed resulted in ongoing gestation or birth; 12.5% of the cycles ended in miscarriages. CONCLUSION Our data suggest that PRP improves intrauterine receptivity to embryo implantation, regardless of whether the endometrium reached the appropriate growth for embryo transfer.OBJECTIVE To provide evidence available in the literature on the role of granulocyte colony stimulating factor (G-CSF) in women submitted to in vitro fertilization, with repeated implantation failure associated with thin endometrium. METHODS Systematic review of the use of G-CSF, as part of assisted reproduction techniques in women with repeated embryo implantation failures associated with thin endometrium. The study was carried out in the PubMed, BIREME and Elsevier databases from 2008 to 2018, in English, Spanish and Portuguese. RESULTS We included all the studies, which used intrauterine G-CSF. We found an increase in endometrial thickness in eight of the 10 studies included. Of these, the implantation rate improved significantly in two studies, but the gestation rate increased in only one. We found the highest rates of implantation (32%) and pregnancy (48%) in a non-randomized clinical trial. On the other hand, two other studies did not demonstrate an increase in endometrial thickness and in pregnancy rates in patients with thin endometrium submitted to the assisted reproduction in frozen embryo transfer cycles. CONCLUSION Studies published so far point to a positive influence on the use of G-CSF in relation to the improvement in endometrial receptivity and pregnancy rates. Therefore, there is a need for further studies to determine whether to use it, as well as the period, route of administration, dosage and duration of treatment.Based on growing demand for assisted reproduction technology, improved predictive models are required to optimize in vitro fertilization/intracytoplasmatic sperm injection strategies, prioritizing single embryo transfer. There are still several obstacles to overcome for the purpose of improving assisted reproductive success, such as intra- and inter-observer subjectivity in embryonic selection, high occurrence of multiple pregnancies, maternal and neonatal complications. Here, we compare studies that used several variables that impact the success of assisted reproduction, such as blastocyst morphology and morphokinetic aspects of embryo development as well as characteristics of the patients submitted to assisted reproduction, in order to predict embryo quality, implantation or live birth. Thereby, we emphasize the proposal of an artificial intelligence-based platform for a more objective method to predict live birth.Approximately 50% of the causes of infertility are of genetic origin. The objective of this study was to analyze the role of genetics in human reproduction by reviewing the main genetic causes of infertility and the use of preimplantation genetic testing in Brazil. This literature review comprised articles in English and Portuguese published on databases PubMed, Scielo, and Bireme from 1990 to 2019. Randomized clinical trials and specialized guidelines were given preference whenever possible. Genetic cause can be traced back to up to 20% of the cases of severe azoospermia or oligozoospermia. Subjects with these conditions are good candidates for genetic screening. In women, genetic causes of infertility (fragile X syndrome, X-trisomy, and Turner's syndrome, some of which diagnosed with karyotyping) culminate with premature ovarian failure. Genetic screening helps advise couples of the risk of experiencing early reproductive capacity loss and of the chances of their offspring carrying genetic disorders. In addition to enhancing the prevention of serious diseases in the offspring of couples at increased risk of genetic diseases, preimplantation genetic screening improves the success rates of assisted reproduction procedures by allowing the selection of euploid embryos for transfer.
