Results and discussion We found that age linearly produces an increase in processing speed regardless the stimulus considered, either letter or human face. In turn, the results claim for a stimulus-specific updating process as the age-related decline is less pronounced when socially meaningful stimuli are involved than when no socially meaningful ones are.Background Several studies found that hip fracture patient outcome is greatly influenced by the time from admission to surgery. To avoid surgical delay, surgery for hip fracture may be performed at night or weekends. However, after-hours surgery may lead to a reduction in support staff and to surgeon fatigue, which ultimately increases mortality and complications. Therefore, we wanted to compare the outcomes of daytime and after-hours surgery in hip fracture patients. Methods A literature search was performed in the Cochrane Library, and the Web of Science, PubMed, Embase, and Springer databases from inception to December 2019. Relevant studies comparing the results of operations performed at different time periods were included. The main clinical outcomes included total complications, mortality, blood loss, surgical time, and length of hospitalization. Data were pooled, and a meta-analysis was completed. Results Nine retrospective cohort studies and one randomized controlled trial met the inclusion criteria; the studies included a total of 583,290 patients. We found no significant differences in mortality, surgical time or blood loss between daytime and after-hours surgery in hip fracture patients (P > 0.05). Of note, the patients who underwent after-hours surgery had fewer surgical complications (P less then 0.001) and a shorter length of hospitalization (P = 0.021) than those who underwent daytime surgery. Conclusion After-hours surgery for hip fracture is safe. To avoid surgical delay, after-hours surgery is still a viable and even necessary option.Therapeutic intervention for prostate cancer mostly relies on eliminating circulating androgen or antagonizing its effect at the cellular level. As the use of endocrine therapies grows, an under-reported incidence of cardiovascular toxicities occurs in prostate cancer patients. In this review, we summarize data of clinical studies, investigating the cardiovascular and metabolic alterations associated with the use of old and new endocrine drugs (gonadotropin-releasing hormone [GnRH] agonists and antagonists, androgen receptor inhibitors, 17α-hydroxylase/c-17,20-lyase [CYP17] inhibitor) in prostate cancer. To date, studies looking for links between cardiovascular complications and hormone-mediated therapies in prostate cancer have reached conflicting results. Several confounding factors, such as age of patients and related cardiovascular liability, other comorbidities, and use of concomitant drugs, have to be carefully evaluated in future clinical trials. With technological advancement, we now have specialized eye-tracking devices that offer high sampling rates, up to 2000 Hz, and allow for measuring eye movements with high accuracy. find more They also offer high spatial resolution, which enables the recording of very small movements, like drifts and microsaccades. Features and parameters of interest that characterize eye movements need to be algorithmically extracted from raw data as most eye trackers identify only basic parameters, such as blinks, fixations, and saccades. Eye-tracking experiments may investigate eye movement behavior in different groups of participants and in varying stimuli conditions. Hence, the analysis stage of such experiments typically involves two phases, (i) extraction of parameters of interest and (ii) statistical analysis between different participants or stimuli conditions using these parameters. Furthermore, the datasets collected in these experiments are usually very large in size, owing to the high temporal resolution of the eye trackers, and hence would benefit from an automated analysis toolkit. In this work, we present PyTrack, an end-to-end open-source solution for the analysis and visualization of eye-tracking data. It can be used to extract parameters of interest, generate and visualize a variety of gaze plots from raw eye-tracking data, and conduct statistical analysis between stimuli conditions and subject groups.Recent research progress on the "second generation" type III polyketide synthases is summarized. The discovery of this fascinating enzyme superfamily provides excellent opportunities for the manipulation of the enzyme reactions to expand the supply of natural and unnatural molecules for future drug development.Use of the subcutaneous (SC) route for administering monoclonal antibodies (mAbs) to treat chronic conditions has been hindered because of an incomplete understanding of fundamental mechanisms controlling mAb absorption from the SC site, and due to the limited translatability of preclinical studies. In this paper, we report on the development and evaluation of a whole-body physiologically-based model to predict mAb pharmacokinetics following SC administration. The circulatory model is based on the physiological processes governing mAb transport and includes two mAb-specific parameters representing differences in pinocytosis rate and the diffusive/convective transport rates among mAbs. At the SC administration site, two additional parameters are used to represent mAb differences in lymphatic capillary uptake and in pre-systemic clearance. Model development employed clinical intravenous (IV) plasma PK data from 20 mAbs and SC plasma PK data from 12 of these mAbs, as obtained from the literature. The resulting model reliably described both the IV and SC measured plasma concentration data.
