The sensory attributes measured among hydrocolloids are strongly correlated with rheological parameters. Dysphagic diets should have less hardness and adherence, but with adequate cohesiveness to facilitate chewing, swallowing to protect from aspiration and reduction of residues in the oropharynx. The use of a single type of thickener may not be ideal, their mixtures and synergistic effect can improve the viscous and elastic characteristics of foods, to obtain safe food to swallow and to improve the sensory interest of dysphagic patients. Personalized recommendations with follow-up on swallowing approaches, respecting patient's individuality, explaining thickening agents' differences would be pertinent.
Accurate rapid diagnostic tests for SARS-CoV-2 infection could contribute to clinical and public health strategies to manage the COVID-19 pandemic. Point-of-care antigen and molecular tests to detect current infection could increase access to testing and early confirmation of cases, and expediate clinical and public health management decisions that may reduce transmission.

To assess the diagnostic accuracy of point-of-care antigen and molecular-based tests for diagnosis of SARS-CoV-2 infection. We consider accuracy separately in symptomatic and asymptomatic population groups.

Electronic searches of the Cochrane COVID-19 Study Register and the COVID-19 Living Evidence Database from the University of Bern (which includes daily updates from PubMed and Embase and preprints from medRxiv and bioRxiv) were undertaken on 30 Sept 2020. We checked repositories of COVID-19 publications and included independent evaluations from national reference laboratories, the Foundation for Innovative New Diagnostics and the Digen tests in their intended use settings and according to test operator (including self-testing) are required.
Epiretinal membrane is an abnormal sheet of avascular fibrocellular tissue that develops on the inner surface of the retina. Epiretinal membrane can cause impairment of sight as a consequence of progressive distortion of retinal architecture.

To determine the effects of surgery compared to no intervention for epiretinal membrane.

We searched the Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials (CENTRAL), MEDLINE Ovid, EmbaseOvid, ISRCTN registry, US National Institutes of Health Ongoing Trials Register ClinicalTrials.gov, and the World Health Organization (WHO) International Clinical Trials Registry Platform (ICTRP). There were no restrictions to language or year of publication. The databases were last searched on 20 May 2020.

We included randomised controlled trials (RCTs) assessing surgical removal of idiopathic epiretinal membrane compared to placebo, no treatment or shamtreatment. Paired or within-person studies were included, as well as those where both eyes of a single participant were treated.

uding patient-reported quality of life over a more extended time frame.
We found no RCT that directly investigated the effect of surgery compared to no intervention. For severe disabling epiretinal membrane, the lack of a RCT comparing surgery to no intervention may reflect evidence from non-randomised studies in favour of surgery; a RCT may be considered unnecessary and ethically unacceptable because a superior effect of surgery is widely accepted. For mild symptomatic epiretinal membrane, however, the value of surgery is uncertain. Low-certainty evidence from this review suggests that watchful waiting or deferred surgery may offer outcomes as favourable as immediate surgery. However, this finding needs to be confirmed in further RCTs with appropriate statistical power, masking of treatment allocation, consistent management of cataract, and measurement of outcomes including patient-reported quality of life over a more extended time frame.
We aimed to develop a disposable rectum dosimeter and to demonstrate its ability to measure exposure dose to the rectum during brachytherapy for cervical cancer treatment using high-dose-rate
Ir. Our rectum dosimeter measures the dose with an Optically Stimulated Luminescence (OSL) sheet which was furled to a catheter. The catheter we used is 6 mm in diameter, therefore it is much less invasive than other rectum dosimeters. The rectum dosimeter developed in this study has the characteristics of being inexpensive and disposable. It is also an easy-to-use detector that can be individually sterilized, making it suitable for clinical use.

To obtain a dose calibration curve, phantom experiments were performed. Irradiation was performed using a cubical acrylic phantom, and the response of the OSL dosimeter was calibrated with the calculation value predicted by the Treatment Planning System (TPS). Additionally, the dependence of catheter angle on the dosimeter position and repeatability were evaluated. We als12.7% (k = 1); this result shows that the clinical study included large elements of uncertainty. read more The discrepancies were found to be due to patient motion during treatment, applicator movement after planning images were taken, and artifacts in the planning images.

We present the idea that a minimally invasive rectum dosimeter can be fabricated using an OSL sheet. Our clinical study demonstrates that a rectum dosimeter made from an OSL sheet has sufficient ability to evaluate rectum dose. Using this dosimeter, valuable information concerning organs at risk can be obtained during brachytherapy.

Body composition and inflammation are gaining importance for prognostication in cancer. This study investigated the individual and combined utility of the preoperative skeletal muscle index (SMI) and the modified Glasgow Prognostic Score (mGPS) for estimating postoperative outcomes in patients with localized renal cell carcinoma (RCC) undergoing nephrectomy.

The authors performed a retrospective review of 352 patients with localized RCC. SMI was measured via computed tomography or magnetic resonance imaging. Patients met the criteria for sarcopenia by body mass index- and sex-stratified thresholds. Multivariable and Kaplan-Meier analyses of associations of sarcopenia and mGPS with overall survival (OS), recurrence-free survival (RFS), and cancer-specific survival (CSS) were performed. Variables were analyzed independently and combined into risk groups low risk (nonsarcopenic, low mGPS), medium risk (sarcopenia only), medium risk (inflammation only), and high risk (sarcopenic, high mGPS). Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves were used to analyze risk groups in comparison with the Stage, Size, Grade, and Necrosis (SSIGN) score and the modified International Metastatic RCC Database Consortium (IMDC) score.
