Poria cocos polysaccharide (PCP) is a compound from Poria cocos, and which is used as a classical tonic agent. This article aims to investigate the effects of PCP on neuronal damage of hippocampus and cognitive function in a rat model of Alzheimer's disease induced by D-galactose and aluminum trichloride. Oxiracetam (ORC) was used as a positive drug in this experiment. The rats were treated with PCP at doses of 100, 200 and 300 mg/kg/day for 30 days and ORC at dose of 346 mg/kg/day after modeling. The results of behavioral test showed that PCP could prevent cognitive decline in Alzheimer's disease rats as assessed by Y-maze test and Morris water maze test. Results of hippocampus slices showed that neurons were integrated and regularly arranged in the groups, which were administered along with PCP. Moreover, PCP could reduce neuronal apoptosis in hippocampus of Alzheimer's disease rats. Furthermore, the activities of superoxide dismutase in the hippocampus were elevated by PCP administration, while acetyl cholinesterase, reactive oxygen, malondialdehyde and inflammatory factors levels were reduced. In addition, we found PCP could attenuate MAPK/NF-κB signal pathway in the hippocampus. All results illustrated that PCP could exert neuroprotective effects at least partly through alleviating oxidative stress, apoptosis, inflammation and inhibiting the MAPK/NF-κB pathway in Alzheimer's disease rats induced by D-galactose and aluminum trichloride.Astrocytes have a crucial role in the modulation of the neuroinflammatory response. We found that the expression IL-33 has increased in rat primary cultured astrocytes after lipopolysaccharide stimulation. Administration of LV-shIL-33 knocked down the expression of IL-33 and markedly reduced the overexpression of spinal IL-1β, IL-6, and TNF-α, and attenuated the activation of ERK and NF-κB/p65. To explore the effects of probiotics on depressive behavior in a chronic unpredictable mild stress (CUMS) rat model by remodeling intestinal flora.
Twenty-four male SD rats aged 6-8 weeks were randomly divided into four groups control group, depression group (CUMS), depression+paroxetine group (Paro) and depression+probiotics group (Pro). Sucrose preference, open field and forced swimming tests were used to assess depression-like behavior in rats. ELISA was used to detect the levels of adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH), and corticosterone, norepinephrine and 5-hydroxytryptamine in rat serum. Real-time PCR was used to determine the changes of Lactobacillus, Bifidobacterium, Enterococcus faecalis and Escherichia coli in rat cecum.
Compared with the control group, CUMS led to significant decreases of body weight, total traveled distance, duration in central area, immobility time, norepinephrine and 5-hydroxytryptamine contents in hippocampal tissues, as well as Lactobacillus and Bifidobacterium in the cecum. It also resulted in marked increases of the contents of E. faecalis and E. coli in the cecum, ACTH and corticosterone contents in the serum of rats. Paroxetine and probiotic treatment each diminished or prevented these changes.

As the landscape of medical education evolves with emerging technologies and the COVID-19 pandemic, e-learning platforms continue to gain popularity. Orthopaedic podcasts, a burgeoning e-learning platform, continue to gain traction; however, there is a paucity of information regarding their coverage of topics and their distribution over time. Therefore, our analysis sought to (1) characterize podcast content related to orthopaedic surgery, and (2) evaluate the changes in the prevalence of orthopaedic podcasts over the past 15 years.
Three common podcasting platforms (Apple Podcasts, Google Podcasts, and Spotify) were queried using the key terms "orthopaedic," "orthopedic," and "ortho" in order to identify a list of podcasts that are related to orthopaedic surgery. For each unique orthopaedic podcast, the title, the show description, the number of episodes, the date of the first episode, the date of the most recent episode, and episode frequency were collected.
