Community integration is an essential component for rehabilitation among traumatic brain injury (TBI) survivors, which yields positive outcomes in terms of social activities, community participation, and productive work. A factor that usually facilitates community integration among TBI survivors is social support, whereas physical environment and fatigue are most often found as barriers.
This study aimed to (1) describe the level of community integration, fatigue, physical environment, and social support of persons after TBI, and (2) examine the relationship between community integration and these three factors.
This is a descriptive correlational study. One hundred and twenty TBI survivors living in the communities of Province Number Three, Nepal were enrolled using the stratified sampling technique. The data were collected using the Community Integration Questionnaire, Modified Fatigue Impact Scale, Craig Hospital Inventory of Environmental Factors, and the Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support. Descriptive statistics and Pearson's correlation were used to analyze the data.
Community integration, fatigue, and physical environment showed a moderate level, while social support revealed a high level. Fatigue was significantly correlated with overall community integration, whereas physical environment was found to correlate with two subscales of community integration, home integration and productive activities.
To enhance the level of community integration among TBI survivors, health care providers, in particular rehabilitation nurses and community nurses, should plan and implement strategies such as follow-up appointments or continued rehabilitation at home.

Elderly people who leave their home environment and move to a nursing home enter a phase in life with diminishing contact with family and friends. This situation often results in a feeling of loneliness with a concomitant deterioration in physical and mental health. By exploring the topic through the lens of the nurses, this study takes a novel approach to address an under-researched area in the nursing field.
The objective of the study was to identify, based on the nurses' experience, how elderly residents handle loneliness in the nursing home.
This study used a qualitative explorative approach with data collected through two focus group interviews with nine nurses at two elderly care facilities in Norway. The resulting transcripts were examined using an approach based on inductive content analysis.
Three main categories emerged as crucial to help lonely nursing home residents cope with day-to-day life (i) maintaining ties to one's earlier life; (ii) engaging in recreational pursuits; and (iii) buildional activities, ideally adapted to each person's needs and ability, have a positive impact by providing structure and meaning that help overtake feelings of loneliness. Building a new network with fellow residents and staff imparts a sense of meaningful community belonging and projects both dignity and self-worth.Standardized acquisitions and diagnoses using robots and AI would potentially increase the general usability and reliability of medical ultrasound. Working towards this prospect, this paper presents the recent developments of a standardized acquisition workflow using a novel dual-probe ultrasound robot, for a project known as intelligent Fetal Imaging and Diagnosis (iFIND). The workflow includes an abdominal surface mapping step to obtain a non-parametric spline surface, a rule-based end-point calculation method to position each individual joint, and a motor synchronization method to achieve a smooth motion towards a target point. The design and implementation of the robot are first presented in this paper and the proposed workflow is then explained in detail with simulation and volunteer experiments performed and analyzed. The closed-form analytical solution to the specific motion planning problem has demonstrated a reliable performance controlling the robot to move towards the expected scanning areas and the calculated proximity of the robot to the surface shows that the robot maintains a safe distance while moving around the abdomen. The volunteer study has successfully demonstrated the reliable working and controllability of the robot in terms of acquiring desired ultrasound views. Our future work will focus on improving the motion planning, and on integrating the proposed standardized acquisition workflow with newly- developed ultrasound image processing methods to obtain diagnostic results in an accurate and consistent way.
To describe the phenotypic spectrum in patients with MBD5-associated neurodevelopmental disorder (MAND) and seizures; features of MAND include intellectual disability, epilepsy, psychiatric features of aggression and hyperactivity, and dysmorphic features including short stature and microcephaly, sleep disturbance, and ataxia.
We performed phenotyping on patients with
deletions, duplications, or point mutations and a history of seizures.
Twenty-three patients with MAND and seizures were included. MELK-8a chemical structure Median seizure onset age was 2.9 years (range 3 days-13 years). The most common seizure type was generalized tonic-clonic; focal, atypical absence, tonic, drop attacks, and myoclonic seizures occurred frequently. Seven children had convulsive status epilepticus and 3 nonconvulsive status epilepticus. Fever, viral illnesses, and hot weather provoked seizures. EEG studies in 17/21 patients were abnormal, typically showing slow generalized spike-wave and background slowing. Nine had drug-resistant epilepsy, although 3 eventually became seizure-free. All but one had moderate-to-severe developmental impairment. Epilepsy syndromes included Lennox-Gastaut syndrome, myoclonic-atonic epilepsy, and infantile spasms syndrome. Behavioral problems in 20/23 included aggression, self-injurious behavior, and sleep disturbance.
