...I guess my own looks aren't so bad. I have light-brown, almost-red hair and greenish-grey eyes. I wish they were more grey, beause I hate most guys that have green eyes, but I have to be content with what I have. My hair is longer than a lot of boys wear theirs, squared off in back and long at the front and sides, but I am a greaser and most of my neighbourhood rarely bothers to get a haircut.

Thus we can say that Ponyboy is definitely a handsome young man with reddish hair and green-grey eyes. He also bears the mark of being a greaser, which is long hair. It is clear from the way that others react towards him at various stages that he is attractive and strong-muscled, shown by the way that other gang members call him "Tuff."


Pony is fourteen years old and has long, light-brown hair--"almost red"--in which he takes great pride; like all greasers, his hair is an important part of his physical appearance. His hair is "squared-off in the back," and he wears less hair oil than most of his friends. He has greenish-grey eyes, which he doesn't like since "I hate most guys that have green eyes." He is fairly tall, taller than Johnny but not as tall as his older brothers. He generally wears blue jeans and a leather jacket and smokes too many cigarettes. He is slim and wiry, with "a pretty good build," and is on the track team in high school. According to Darry, he fights "real good for a kid your size." He has a scar on his forefinger from when he had a cigarette-burning contest with Curly Shepard but, for the most part, lacks the physical scars that many of his other friends have.
