The Best Home Espresso Machine
Superautomatic espresso machines are a great alternative for those who don't have barista experience but still would like to enjoy premium coffee at home. These machines come with automated features and digital convenience. They heat quickly and don't take up much counter space.
This model has a programmable volumetric dose as well an adjustable preinfusion. It also comes with steam wand as well as a commercial-grade group head.
1. Breville Bambino Plus
Despite its cute name the Bambino Plus is a serious espresso machine. It's packed with features that make it a good pick for anyone who wants to upgrade from the basic Breville espressi machines or those who require a more automated option than manual.
It is equipped with an PID controller that performs the hard work of controlling temperature and pressure so that it's ready to brew the moment you press the button. It utilizes a technology known as Thermo jet, which lets it to heat up in just 3 seconds. This means you can make your coffee faster than other espresso machines at home.
This machine is built with simplicity in mind, so there's only one button that controls everything. You can choose between a single shot or a double shot, and determine the brewing time which is something you can't do with other espresso machines at this price. The brushed stainless finish gives it a premium appearance, and its compact size is ideal for those with a small counter space or a smaller kitchen.
The Bambino Plus includes everything you require to get started brewing. This includes a metal 54mm tamper as well as a dose trimming tool. This is the only machine of its kind that can do this. It demonstrates how Breville intends to ensure that their products are as secure and reliable as possible. It also comes with built-in reminders for descaling and cleaning to keep it running smoothly.
If you're just beginning to learn about espresso, the Bambino Plus is arguably the ideal basic home espresso machine. It's user-friendly and has a fast heating time and does a great job of automatically blending milk for you. The high cost of the product could be out of reach for many people.
2. De'Longhi Stilosa
The De'Longhi Stilosa is an affordable and well-rounded manual espresso machine that is suitable for coffee novices and coffee enthusiasts alike. It's user-friendly, looks nice on the counter, and produces fantastic cappuccinos, great espresso and lattes. However, it has some drawbacks that need to be considered.
In our brewing metrics we found that the Stilosa scored between average and below average for its quality of brewing and its control. This was due to the tiny filter baskets, as well as the lack of a temperature control. Both of these aspects limit your ability customize extraction. We liked that this machine is quick to heat up and that the spout is able to be adjusted to an ideal height.
It also includes a convenient water tank that can hold up to 34 ounces. It comes with a built-in indicator for the level so you can tell when it's time to refill. It is removable, which can be beneficial if you have to clean it or don't have access a sink. It also has a drip pan that is removable, which allows you to use taller cups underneath the spout.
In our steaming measurements, the Stilosa also fell short. This was due to its insufficient control of the steam temperature, and lack of pre-infusion options. Both of these are features that are common in machines that cost more. Despite its flaws we liked the fact that it's easy to maintain and comes with a 1-year warranty. In terms of price and performance the De'Longhi Stilosa makes a great addition to any home coffee bar. It's a bit easier to use than some other models we've tested and will save you money over paying for cafe drinks.
3. Breville Barista Express Impress
The Breville Barista Express Impress (that's quite a mouthful, don't you think?) is a machine specifically designed for those who are interested in learning about espresso. This single boiler, pump-driven machine is designed to make it simple for anyone to make a decent espresso without sacrificing flavor or brewing consistency.
First of all it takes the guesswork out of changing the grinder, tamper, and brew group settings using its easy-to-use controls. You can also choose between single or double shots and pick your preferred temperature. A thermocoil heating system built into the machine makes sure that your espresso is ready in less than 30 seconds which is much quicker than the half-hour the majority of single boiler machines require to reach temperature.
Another key feature is the "impressive" dosing and tamping system that works with the tamper to automatically adjust the proper amount of ground coffee per shot. This system uses a sensor to measure the depth of the basket, and then alters how much ground coffee is dispersed. If you're feeling less certain about your ability to control manually the size of the grind, the water temperature and dosing, the machine comes with a variety of presets to aid you.
Finally, the Barista Express Impress includes the infamous single-hole steam wand that can produce some impressive artworks of latte also. It's the same wand you can find in Breville's more advanced, top-of-the-line Barista Express models, and it's a great tool.
I'm not a fan of coffee shortcuts, fully-automatic machines or pods. But the Impress does exactly what it says without being intimidating or taking the fun from making espresso. I'm pleased to give it a thumbs up for that!
4. Diletta Mio
The Diletta Mio makes a great option for home baristas that are adamant about quality, design and ease of usage. Its sleek design, professional grade components and consistent performance make it an eye-catching addition to your coffee corner. Beginners can also benefit from this machine because it lets them learn about steaming and espresso without worrying about programming or the complexity.
This machine's PID-controlled brew heater is one of its most impressive features. It ensures rapid warm-up time and stable temperature water. This is especially important for espresso drinks, since even small variations in temperature of the water can have a big impact on the flavor and quality of your coffee.
Another notable feature is steaming thermoblock that is separate to the Diletta that allows you to make espresso and steam milk at the same time. This can help you save time and ensure that your milk is the right consistency. This helps conserve energy as it only draws energy when it is needed.
The machine has a pressure gauge on the group head. It's a nice touch, as it allows you to monitor the pressure of your extraction live. You can alter the OPV to get a more precise extraction. This is usually reserved for machines costing much more.
The Diletta also has an accessible side-by-side, easy-to-clean water tank, and an optional energy-saving mode that can be set in increments of 10 minutes to 2 hours. Its insulated boiler wrap further reduces heat loss. Its dual-temperature system reduces static electricity, resulting in less waste and lower energy costs.
However, some users have complained about the longevity of this machine and long repair times. In addition, some have experienced poor customer service from Diletta and have had trouble in resolving warranty issues.
5. Jura E8
This high-end super-automatic espresso maker has a dazzling variety of specially-programmed drinks that can be accessed by pressing a button. It can also make macchiato, cappuccino and ristretto, and flat whites, alongside hot chocolate and plain coffee. Its modern brewing technology and elegant color display are only some of the features that distinguish this machine from the rest.
The E8 uses the Aroma G3 grinder to grind beans quickly and accurately. It also comes with 8 grind settings, which could seem like a lot compared to other super-automatics that offer 3 or 4. The higher range allows you to control the size and consistency of your cup, which is essential for a good cup.
The Jura E8 is equipped with a powerful burr grinder as well as an advanced pre-infusion process. These two components are responsible for producing a cup of espresso that is consistently top-quality. The PEP process is a method of forcing water through the ground coffee in short bursts which allows the coffee's flavors to be fully extracted. The cup produced is fuller and richer than instant coffee made with a Keurig.
The Jura E8 can make a variety of drinks and does it very well. It makes excellent, strong espresso as well as smooth cappuccino. The only issue is that it's not able to make an espresso. This requires a steam high pressure boiler in order to create the thick, fluffy bubble.
espresso machines for home isn't as difficult to clean as most super automatics. It will automatically clean itself and descale after each use, and it can be programmed to perform more thorough cleaning at least twice a year. It will also remind to change the filter every 80 drinks.
