The response time speed-accuracy trade-off (SATO) is an established index of information processing ability, but rarely examined as a variable in association with treatment of substance use disorder (SUD).
The purpose of this study was to test baseline information-processing ability differences between individuals who respond to treatment for cocaine use disorder v. those who do not.
Eighty patients enrolled in a clinical trial for cocaine use disorder completed a baseline drug-specific eye-tracking (anti-saccade) assessment prior to treatment, which included trials with both cocaine-related and neutral stimuli. SATO functions were computed for treatment responders v. non-responders.
Unexpectedly, responders demonstrated statistically different SATO functions, showing poorer accuracy when executing faster response times. This difference was present on trials that presented cocaine stimuli only.

Several examples of alliances exist with the broad goal of collaborating toward scientific advancement and improved public welfare. This review discusses different aspects of such partnerships in drug discovery/development and provides example applications as well as successful case studies. Instances of PPPs to support better data integration and build better machine learning models are also discussed. Central venous catheter (CVC) misplacement occurs frequently after right subclavian vein catheterization. It can be avoided by using ultrasound to confirm correct guidewire tip position in the lower superior vena cava prior to CVC insertion. However, retraction of the guidewire during the CVC insertion may dislocate the guidewire tip from its desired and confirmed position, thereby resulting in CVC misplacement. The aim of this study was to determine the minimal guidewire length required to maintain correct guidewire tip position in the lower superior vena cava throughout an ultrasound-guided CVC placement in the right subclavian vein.
One hundred adult patients with a computed tomography scan of the chest were included. By using multiplanar reconstructions from thin-sliced images, the distance from the most plausible distal puncture site of the right subclavian vein to the optimal guidewire tip position in the lower superior vena cava was measured (vessel length). In addition, measurements of equipment icephalic veins should be avoided prior to CVC insertion in order to preclude dislocation of the catheter tip towards the right internal jugular vein or the left subclavian vein. This study shows that many commercial over-the-wire percutaneous 15-16 cm CVC kits contain guidewires that are too short for right subclavian vein catheterization, i.e., guidewire retraction is needed prior to CVC insertion.People with visual impairment (VI) may encounter psychosocial challenges including difficulties with socialisation/interpreting visual social cues. Social media (SM) may provide alternative means of socialisation but little is known about the experience of SM from their perspective. Semi-structured interviews with 10 individuals with VI who regularly use SM were analysed according to interpretative phenomenological analysis. Analysis yielded two overarching themes social media and identity, and social connectedness. Participants described benefits of shared experience, feelings of enhanced control and challenges of SM which emphasise exclusion/inequality. Findings highlight a need for further research to understand/improve the online experience for people with VI.Palmitic acid (PA) leads to lipotoxicity in type 2 diabetes and induces oxidative stress in podocytes. Oxidized cellular proteins are degraded by proteasomes. The role of proteasomes in PA- or oxidative stress-induced podocyte injury and pathogenesis of diabetic nephropathy (DN) is unknown. We investigated the effects of PA on expression of 20S and 26S proteasomes, proteasome activator 28 (PA28) regulators, and the immunoproteasome in cultured podocytes and renal cortical tissues of db/db and db/m mice using Western blot analysis. Glomerular areas and glomerular basement membrane (GBM) widths of db/db and db/m mice were examined using morphometry. Short-term incubation of PA or low levels of H2O2 upregulated only the immunoproteasome in cultured podocytes. Long-term exposure of podocytes to PA ultimately downregulated the immunoproteasome as with other proteasomes, whereas oleic acid (OA) or eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) restored the PA-induced decreased protein levels. In db/db mice, renal cortical immunoprotently decreased, whereas feeding of OA-rich olive oil or EPA-rich fish oil diets protected them against the reduced immunoproteasome expression and progression of diabetic nephropathy. Thus, lipotoxicity-induced podocyte injury with impaired immunoproteasome expression may be related to the pathogenesis of diabetic nephropathy.
