Intraorbital and intracranial complications of acute rhinosinusitis (ARS) are uncommon, but potentially life threatening. Signs of progression of ARS should be recognized early to allow timely surgical treatment in order to avoid irreversible lesions such as vision loss and neurological deficits. In this case series, we provide an overview of 6 representative cases who presented at our tertiary center (2017-2018). The aim of this case series is (1) to draw new attention to the clinical manifestations and management of these complications, since even in highly-developed medical settings we still observe permanent sequellae due to delayed or inadequate treatment, (2) to give an updated analysis of the guidelines, stressing the low threshold for endoscopic sinus surgery, even in children, (3) to underline the benefits of a multidisciplinary approach in these young patients.
The aims of this study are to compare the results of two government-funded newborn hearing screening (NHS) pilot programs and evaluate the feasibility and the effectiveness of the coupon-mediated NHS program in Korea.
We retrospectively analyzed the database of the NHS center of the Ministry of Health and Welfare (MHW) from 2007 to 2013. Before the NHS was covered by national health insurance in 2018, the MHW conducted two types of NHS pilot programs. For the first pilot program, the MHW initiated an area based universal newborn hearing screening (UNHS) program which initially included 16 in 2007 and then spreading to 32 administrative areas in 2008 for all newborns in the pilot areas regardless of income level. The second pilot program was an offshoot of the continuing expansion of the first pilot program, which was a nationwide coupon-mediated NHS program for low-income families from 2009. The hearing loss (HL) was defined as a threshold of 40dB nHL or worse on the auditory brainstem response (ABR) testd formulate UNHS national health insurance policies. However, to become a successful UNHS program, the governmental supports for both timely interventions and the inauguration of a web tracking system are mandatory.
This study suggests that the coupon-mediated NHS pilot program may be a worthwhile government-led NHS project for the proper tracking and accurate statistics. This program helped formulate UNHS national health insurance policies. However, to become a successful UNHS program, the governmental supports for both timely interventions and the inauguration of a web tracking system are mandatory.CD151 has been recognized as a prognostic marker, the therapeutic target of breast cancers, but less explored for small molecule inhibitors due to lack of a validated model. The 3-D structure of CD151 large extracellular loop (LEL) was modeled using the LOMETS server and validated by the Ramachandran plot. The validated structure was employed for molecular docking and structure-based pharmacophore analysis. Druglikeness was evaluated by the ADMET description protocol. Antiproliferative activity was evaluated by MTT, BrdU incorporation, flow cytometry, and cell death ELISAPLUS assay. This study predicted the best model for CD151-LEL with 94.1% residues in favored regions and Z score -2.79 kcal/mol using the threading method. The web-based receptor cavity method identified one functional target site, which was suitable for the binding of aromatic and heterocyclic compounds. Molecular docking study identified pyrocatechol (PCL) and 5-fluorouracil (FU) as potential leads of CD151-LEL. Afimoxifene mouse The pharmacophore model identified interaction points of modeled CD151-LEL with PCL and FU. Also, the analysis of ADMET properties revealed the drug-likeness of PCL and FU. The viability of MDA-MB 231 cells was significantly reduced with PCL and FU but less affected MCF-12A, normal healthy breast epithelial cell line. With 50% toxic concentration, both PCL and FU significantly inhibited 82.46 and 87.12% proliferation, respectively, of MDA-MB 231 cells by altering morphology and inducing G1 cell cycle arrest and apoptosis. In addition, PCL and FU inhibited the CD151 expression by 4.5-and 4.8-folds, respectively. This study suggests the further assessment of pyrocatechol as a potential lead of CD151 in breast cancer at the molecular level.Organisms living in icy environments produce antifreeze proteins to control ice growth and recrystallization. It has been proposed that these molecules pin the surface of ice crystals, thus inducing the formation of a curved surface that arrests crystal growth. Such proteins are very appealing for many potential applications in food industry, material science and cryoconservation of organs and tissues. Unfortunately, their structural complexity has seriously hampered their practical use, while efficient and accessible synthetic analogues are highly desirable. In this paper, we used molecular dynamics based techniques to model the interaction of three short antifreeze synthetic peptides with an ice surface. The employed protocols succeeded in reproducing the ice pinning action of antifreeze peptides and the consequent ice growth arrest, as well as in distinguishing between antifreeze and control peptides, for which no such effect was observed. Principal components analysis of peptides trajectories in different simulation settings permitted to highlight the main structural features associated to antifreeze activity. Modeling results are highly correlated with experimentally measured properties, and insights on ice-peptide interactions and on conformational patterns favoring antifreeze activity will prompt the design of new and improved antifreeze peptides.Metal nanoparticles supported on semiconductor surfaces have been proposed as promising nanocatalyst candidates of CO2 conversion to energy carrier molecules such as formic acid or carbon monoxide, which can be used as a feedstock for fuels synthesis. This study is focused on the bimetallic Cu/Ni nanoparticles supported on the ZnO. The respective reaction mechanisms have been studied by means of the Molecular Dynamics with the DFT methodology. The results suggest that on CuNi/ZnO CO2 hydrogenation to formate pathway is more favorable than carboxyl route. These pathways are competitive with the CO2 reduction to CO.
