Throat area as well as metabolism malady: Any cross-sectional population-based research.
For mMRI (where the resolution mimics the clinical MRI of human cartilage), the quantitative T2 mapping at AFs up to 4 showed negligible variations. This study demonstrates that both clinical MRI and μMRI can benefit from the use of CS in image acquisition, and μMRI benefits more from the use of CS by acquiring much less data, without losing significant accuracy in the quantification of T2 maps in osteoarthritic cartilage. © 2020 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.BACKGROUND The multidimensional array of clinical features and prognostic factors makes it difficult to optimize management within the heterogeneity of patients with common musculoskeletal pain. This study aimed to identify phenotypes across prognostic factors and musculoskeletal complaints. Concurrent and external validity were assessed against an established instrument and a new sample, respectively, and treatment outcome was described. METHODS We conducted a longitudinal observational study of 435 patients (aged 18-67 years) seeking treatment for nonspecific complaints in the neck, shoulder, low back or multisite/complex pain in primary health care physiotherapy in Norway. Latent class analysis was used to identify phenotypes based on 11 common prognostic factors within four biopsychosocial domains; pain, beliefs and thoughts, psychological and activity and lifestyle. RESULTS Five distinct phenotypes were identified. Phenotype 1 (n = 77, 17.7%) and 2 (n = 142, 32.6%) were characterized by the lowest scoreson, showed good external validity, and clear variation in treatment outcome. The findings are particularly valuable as they describe the heterogeneity of patients with musculoskeletal pain and points to a need for more targeted interventions in common musculoskeletal disorders to improve treatment outcome. © 2020 The Authors. The survivors' HRQOL was also compared to reference scores from the population. METHODS In this exploratory cross-sectional study patients were invited 15 months after their diagnosis and asked to answer two quality of life questionnaires (EORTC QLQ- C30, EORTC QLQ- HN35), 405 participated. RESULTS HRQOL was associated with gender, with males scoring better than females on a few scales. Patients' HRQOL was more associated with treatment than tumor stage. Patients' HRQOL was worse than that in an age- and sex-matched reference group from the normal population, the largest differences were found for problems with dry mouth followed by problems with sticky saliva, senses, swallowing and appetite loss. CONCLUSIONS The tonsillar carcinoma patients had a worse HRQOL compared to the general population one year after treatment. © 2020 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.BACKGROUND The primary purpose of this study was to examine the feasibility and acceptability of participation in a randomized waitlist-controlled intervention of mindfulness-based stress reduction (MBSR) in a young adult cancer sample. A secondary aim was to examine patterns of change in patient reported outcomes (PROs) of physical, social, and emotional functioning. METHODS Participants were enrolled at a large Midwestern comprehensive cancer center and randomized to MBSR or a waitlist control. Feasibility and acceptability were examined through enrollment metrics and a survey. PROs were gathered at baseline, 8-weeks, and 16-weeks. Descriptive statistics and mixed models were used in analyses. RESULTS Of 597 eligible participants, 151 (26.5%) consented from which 126 (83.4%) completed baseline measures. Sixty-seven participants were randomized to MBSR, and 59 to the waitlist. Immediately following MBSR, the majority of respondents (72%-78%) reported their experience with mindfulness was very logical and useful to increasing their wellbeing. Compared to waitlist members, MBSR participant's scores on PROs improved in expected directions. CONCLUSIONS Our findings suggest that recruitment for an intensive, in-person, multi-week supportive intervention can be challenging with young adults with cancer, similar to other cancer survivor populations; however once enrolled, feasibility and acceptability of MBSR was supported. Further, initial evidence on the role of MBSR on short-term changes in select PROs with this population was also demonstrated. © 2020 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.Iridium catalyzed formal alkyne hydroboration with cage B-H of o -carborane has been achieved, leading to the controlled synthesis of a series of 3,6-[ trans- (AlkCH=CH)] 2 - o -carboranes (Alk = alkyl), 3- cis -(ArCH=CH)- o -carboranes (Ar = aryl) and 3- cis -(ArCH=CH)-6- trans- (AlkCH=CH)- o -carboranes in high yields with excellent regio and very good cis-trans selectivity. read more The most electron-deficient B(3,6)-H vertices favor oxidative addition on electron-rich metal center, which is responsible for the regioselectivity. On the other hand, the configuration of the resultant olefinic units is dominated by alkyne substituents. Alkyl groups lead to trans- configuration whereas bulky aryl substitutions result in cis -configuration. © 2020 WILEY-VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA, Weinheim.BACKGROUND Dental caries represents one of the most common human diseases which can lead to pulpitis, pain, and tooth loss and can negatively affect growth and well-being. Although dietary and environmental factors have been extensively studied towards their contribution of the disease, genetic factors that contribute one's susceptibility over caries development remain rather clouded. AIM To investigate the possible contribution of ACTN2 (rs6656267) and MPPED2 (rs11031093 and rs536007) polymorphisms in primary dentition caries. DESIGN Samples from children (5-12 years old) were collected and genotyped for ACTN2 (rs6656267) and MPPED2 (rs11031093 and rs536007) polymorphisms. With regard to dmfs index and socio-economic status, an association between these polymorphisms and primary dentition caries was investigated. RESULTS ACTN2 (rs6655267) and MPPED2 (rs536007) are not associated with primary dentition caries. MPPED2 (rs11031093, G Allele) is marginally associated. CONCLUSIONS MPPED2 (rs11031093, G Allele) is marginally associated with caries susceptibility on primary dentition.
