Evolution Korea
Korean scientists aren't taking any risks when it comes to the fight over evolution. The Society for Textbook Revise has been fighting to eliminate Archaeopteryx, horses and other evolutionary icons from textbooks.
Confucian practices with their emphasis on global success and the value of education, continue to dominate the country's culture. However, Korea is in search of an alternative development model.
Origins
The development of Iron Age cultures brought more sophisticated states to the Korean Peninsula, including Goguryeo and Baekje. They all developed their own culture that was influenced by the influence of their powerful neighbours and they also adopted various aspects of Chinese culture, including Confucianism and Buddhism however shamanism continued to be practised too.
Goguryeo, the first of the Korean kingdoms was the first to impose their own form of government. It instituted a king-centered system of government in the early 2nd century. Through a series of wars it wiped out the factions loyal to the Han dynasty from the north of the peninsula. It also expanded its territory to Manchuria too.
It was during this time that a regional confederation was formed named Buyeo. Its founder Wang Geon was given the title king and his name was written down in the 13th-century Samguk yusa (Memorabilia of the Three Kingdoms). Buyeo was then referred to as Goryeo and that is the reason why the name Korea came to be. Goryeo had a strong commercial and economic system and was also a place for education. They wrote poetry and masked dance-dramas such as tallori and sandaenori and held an annual festival called Yeonggo in December.
Goryeo’s economy was boosted through rapid trade, including with the Song Dynasty in China. Byeongnando was the main entry point to Gaeseong the capital city of Gaeseong. Traders came from Central Asia, Arabia and Southeast Asia. Some of the items they brought were silk and medicinal herbs.

The chapter concludes by stating that the success of Korea's new paradigm for development will be determined by how well these trends can be incorporated and whether people are willing to make difficult decisions.

Exports of advanced manufacturing technology and high-tech consumer electronic products have become a significant source of income. The government has also been pushing Saemaeul Undong, which is a new movement of the community, to transform the country from one which is primarily agricultural to one that is focused on manufacturing.
The country also enjoys an excellent standard of living and offers many benefits for employees, such as maternity leave and job security. Moreover, employers are required to purchase accident insurance, which covers the costs for work-related illnesses or injury. In the end, South Korea has been considered a model of success for many developing nations around the globe. The roots of this anti-evolutionary sentiment are a bit ambiguous and diverse. Some researchers suggest that it is due to religious belief, while others point to an increasing prevalence of anti-intellectualism, which has been exacerbated by growing political elite fragmentation along ideologies, regions, class, and gender. The one-sided populism that is backed by powerful conservative think organizations, business interests and other influential groups, has also led to a growing distrust of the scientific community.
