This study aims to review systematically the association of social determinants of health (SDH) and road traffic deaths (RTD) within scientific literature.

A search strategy was designed and run in EMBASE, PubMed via MEDLINE, Scopus, Web of Science, and Cochrane library. Through title, abstract, and full-text screening, all English original papers (except ecological studies) which studied social determinants of health and fatal injuries were included. Papers which studied association between RTD and the education, income, rural settlement, and marital status were evaluated and the related data was extracted from the full-texts.

Eleven articles out of 7,897 primary results were selected to be included in the study. Among eight papers studied education, seven confirmed a negative association between years of schooling and RTD. Two out of three articles reported no association between income leveland RTD. Among three papers studied rural settlement, two approved a positive relationship between this determinant and RTD. Both articles studied marital status, confirmed an association between this determinant and RTD.

A few papers studied association of social determinants of health (SDH) and RTD. There was an inverse relationship between education and RTD. The evidence for such an association between income, rural settlement, and marital state was scarce. Further investigations are recommended through original research.

Tissue expansion is used for scar reconstruction owing to its excellent clinical outcomes; however, the complications that emerge from tissue expansion hinder repair. Infection is considered a major complication of tissue expansion. This study aimed to analyze the perioperative risk factors for expander infection.

A large, retrospective, single-institution observational study was carried out over a 10-year period. The study enrolled consecutive patients who had undergone tissue expansion for scar reconstruction. Demographics, etiological data, expander-related characteristics and postoperative infection were assessed. Univariate and multivariate logistic regression analysis were performed to identify risk factors for expander infection. In addition, we conducted a sensitivity analysis for treatment failure caused by infection as an outcome.

A total of 2374 expanders and 148 cases of expander infection were assessed. Treatment failure caused by infection occurred in 14 expanders. Multivariate logistic regression analysis identified that disease duration of ≤1year (odds ratio (OR), 2.07;
 < 0.001), larger volume of expander (200-400ml vs <200ml; OR, 1.74;
 = 0.032; >400ml vs <200ml; OR, 1.76;
 = 0.049), limb location (OR, 2.22;
 = 0.023) and hematoma evacuation (OR, 2.17;
 = 0.049) were associated with a high likelihood of expander infection. Disease duration of ≤1year (OR, 3.88;
 = 0.015) and hematoma evacuation (OR, 10.35;
 = 0.001) were so related to high risk of treatment failure.

The rate of expander infection in patients undergoing scar reconstruction was 6.2%. Disease duration of <1year, expander volume of >200ml, limb location and postoperative hematoma evacuation were independent risk factors for expander infection.

A person with colostomy or ileostomy undergoes a comprehensive treatment with a wide range of adjustments which affect the individual's social and psychological functioning. Quality of life (QOL) is a subjective feeling which includes physical, social, psychological, and spiritual domains of an individual that can be affected by a stoma.

This study is aimed at identifying the QOL and impact of stoma on their lifestyle pattern among ostomates attending stoma outpatient department of gastroenterology department of a government tertiary care center in South India during 2018.

A descriptive study using a cross-sectional survey design was conducted among 55 ostomates, following consecutive sampling technique. The data were collected using a City of Hope QOL Questionnaire for Ostomy patients which had QOL Assessment Questions from four subdomains including physical, psychological, social, and spiritual aspects. This tool also had open-ended questions on lifestyle assessment components.

63.6% of the participants had colostomy; 72.7% of the stomas were due to cancer. The mean QOL score of the participants was 4.13 ± 1.07. The ostomates scored relatively well in both physical (5.68 ± 1.76) and spiritual (4.32 ± 1.36) domains, but the sociological (2.85 ± 1.3) domain score was very low. Permanent ostomates scored significantly higher than the temporary ostomates (
= 0.04).

The QOL score of ostomates was less than the scores reported in the Western population and living with stoma significantly alters their lifestyle. Therefore, follow-up services and counseling services to the ostomates by the health-care professionals are needed.

Arthritis is the most common type of arthritis in people over 40 years. find more This study aimed to determine the effect of an educational intervention on the prevention of arthritis among middle-aged women using the health belief model.

This was a randomized controlled field trial. The study population was women aged 29-59 years who referred to health centers in Birjand. Seventy-three women were selected by a systematic random sampling method and were randomly divided into intervention (
= 36) and control (
= 37) groups. The data collection tool was a researcher-made questionnaire. Data were analyzed using the Chi-square test, Fisher's exact test,
-test, repeated-measures ANOVA, and Bonferroni
test. As for the cases where the data were not normally distributed, the Friedman nonparametric test, Mann-Whitney U-test, and Wilcoxon
tests were used.

In the intervention group, the mean score of knowledge, perceived susceptibility, severity, benefits, self-efficacy, and behavior significantly increased, and the mean score of perceived barriers significantly decreased after the intervention (≤0.
