Phosphorylation of Dab1 depends on the kinase activity of EGFR constituting a signal pathway independent of Reelin and its receptors.This study represents a novel proof of concept of the clinical utility of miRNAs from exhaled breath condensate (EBC) as biomarkers of lung cancer (LC). Genome-wide miRNA profiling and machine learning analysis were performed on EBC from 21 healthy volunteers and 21 LC patients. The levels of 12 miRNAs were significantly altered in EBC from LC patients where a specific signature of miR-4507, miR-6777-5p and miR-451a distinguished these patients with high accuracy. Besides, a distinctive miRNA profile between LC adenocarcinoma and squamous cell carcinoma was observed, where a combined panel of miR-4529-3p, miR-8075 and miR-7704 enabling discrimination between them. EBC levels of miR-6777-5p, 6780a-5p and miR-877-5p predicted clinical outcome at 500 days. Most attention has been dedicated to the "core" area of the lesion and scar formation, while only scattered reports consider ECM modification based on the temporal evolution and the segments adjacent to the lesion. In this study, we investigated the expression profile of 100 genes encoding for ECM proteins at 1, 8 and 45 days post-injury, in the spinal cord segments rostral and caudal to the lesion and in the scar segment, in a rat model. During both the active lesion phases and the lesion stabilization, we observed an asymmetric gene expression induced by the injury, with a higher regulation in the rostral segment of genes involved in ECM remodeling, adhesion and cell migration. Using bioinformatic approaches, the metalloproteases inhibitor Timp1 and the hyaluronan receptor Cd44 emerged as the hub genes at all post-lesion times. Results from the bioinformatic gene expression analysis were then confirmed at protein level by tissue analysis and by cell culture using primary astrocytes. These results indicated that ECM regulation also takes place outside of the lesion area in spinal cord injury.This study evaluated the Nutrition Care Process documentation used by dietitians for obese pediatric patients diagnosed with metabolic syndrome (MetS) and/or non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) and its impact on the achievement of nutritional goals. This retrospective cohort study utilized data retrieved from three tertiary care hospitals in Riyadh. A total of 142 obese pediatric patients aged 8-18 years diagnosed with NAFLD and/or MetS were evaluated. Data on weight, height, blood pressure (BP), lipid profile, and liver enzymes were collected. A validated audit was used to assess the documentation quality. Twenty-seven (46.6%) dietitian notes received a high score, 21 (36.2%) received a medium score, and 10 (17.2%) received a low score. There was no significant effect of dietitian audit scores on nutritional outcomes, however, the change in body mass index from 6 to 12 months follow-up period was inversely correlated with the audit score (r = -0.761, p = 0.007), and alkaline phosphatase was inversely correlated with the audit score (r = -0.819, p = 0.013). In conclusion, there was a clear variation in the quality of dietitians' documentation and the impact of documentation scores on nutritional outcomes.Children with impairments are known to experience more restricted participation than other children. It also appears that low levels of participation are related to a higher prevalence of mental health problems in children with neurodevelopmental disorders (NDD). The purpose of this conceptual paper is to describe and define the constructs mental health problems, mental health, and participation to ensure that future research investigating participation as a means to mental health in children and adolescents with NDD is founded on conceptual clarity. We first discuss the difference between two aspects of mental health problems, namely mental disorder and mental illness. This discussion serves to highlight three areas of conceptual difficulty and their consequences for understanding the mental health of children with NDD that we then consider in the article (1) how to define mental health problems, (2) how to define and assess mental health problems and mental health, i.e., wellbeing as separate constructs, and (3) how to describe the relationship between participation and wellbeing.
